Hello friends and fellow mylotters. I know everyone of us here cooks and eat rice. I want to know, before you cook your rice, How many times do you wash them? As for me, it depends on which rice I have to cook or rather which kind of rice there is. There were rice here in the Philippines that smells bad. Those were the ones which is sold at cheaper price. If that's the case, I have to wash them up to 3 times or until the smell vanish. I only tried it once. I buy the expensive ones most of the time, for it tastes good and smells good. How about you? How many times do you wash your rice before you cook them. Happy mylotting to all. HUGZ!

I eat a lot of Rice... But only Breakfast and lunch, but at dinner, I only eat a little rice but lots of fruits. I just cant be satisfied if I cant eat enough of rice. In your question, When im the one cooking the rice, I just also wash them once, because my mom told me that when you wash more than once, the nutrients of the rice will be gone. So i followed my mo of course. In our situation here in the philippines, the rice is so expensive, but there are really cheap but we dont buy those cheap rice, because my doctor said that there are meds that purred on those cheap rice. I just also don't like those cheap rice because of its smell and also it doesn't taste good. Lets just pray that prices of rice will have also a huge rollback on the price.

I wash them only once. Like you, we rarely buy the cheap kind because not only do they have these weird smell, they are also hard, even if you add excess water. And if you add too much water they will become "lugaw".

I agree with you swirlz. I've tried it last week, and I had a hard time cooking it. And I don't like the taste of it. Glad that I didn't buy a sack or else, we'll be eating this for one month. HUGZ!

Ugh, that would be a disaster. That happened to us once, and my father (he's half-paralyzed and very picky with foods) refused to eat it. My mom ended up buying another sack of good quality rice and would mix both kinds when we cook. Sometimes she uses "malagkit" to mix with the hard rice so that it will become softer.

Hello. I eat rice during lunch only, because I only eat sandwich with soup or coffee in the morning and vegetables with fish in the evening. When I cook rice, I wash it two times before cooking. Good evening

I eat rice for lunch and sometimes for dinner too.I buy the good variety rice,I used to wash it several times before cooking it then I read an article which says that you need to wash it only once too much of washing will remove the nutrients. So now I wash it only once and it's perfectly okay.

I've read about that also. But I've only followed it if the rice is good. There are rice that is sold here that really smells. Those are cheap rice that is being sold in the market. Even though I'm on a tight budget right now, I still buy the expensive ones. HUGZ!

Hi....before cooking the rice I always wash it minimum 3 times. I have tried washing rice up to 5 times too. That's because at one time we bought cheap rice and it was dirty - plenty of husk and stones. But that was once only and after that my husband and I just stick to the medium price range. The expensive fragrant rice we have never bought before. It's too expensive for our budget. The medium range ones are okay.

I don't wash rice lol! I buy Uncle Ben's long grain white rice (it's expensive, probably around $1 a pound) and it comes in a sealed box or sealed 5 lb plastic bag. It does always come out good though, as long as I add the right amount of water and turn it off after 20 minutes. I have tried cheap rice and I've had problems with it - it either burns or swells up and gets sticky. I prefer my rice a bit firm and separated, not sticky.

I prefer firm, separated and not sticky rice too. That's why I don't buy cheap rice, the texture and taste is really not that good. Though I'm on a budget right now, I still buy the expensive ones. HUGZ!

Hi best, welcome back. Have you tried NFA rice? Oh, that really is smelly, and very hard to cook. I've tried it last week for a change, and it really changed my family's appetite. We don't usually have leftover rice but when I've tried it, half is left. HUGZ best.

I always wash rice until the water runs clean, That gets rid of any dirt or stones that might be in it. I use different rice for different things, but I never had any that smelled bad. A lot of the rice here in the States is all ready washed, but I wash it anyway just to make sure.

my hubby is usually the one who cook the rice... and i cook the meals... so i'm not sure how many times he washes the rice... but i think he washes it 2 times... the rice here is not that bad... so we don't really have to wash it so many times... i also prefer to buy the more expensive rice rather than the cheap one as i want to enjoy my meal... if i cook nice meal but the rice is bad, it will spoil everything... take care and have a nice day...

I grew up with my Mom picking paddies and other stuff out of rice we would buy from the farmer and then washng it before cooking. Now we use processed rice that is clean from those stuff so no need to wash it, I just threw it directly into the pot

Just like you we buy those expensive one because i always lost my appetite when the rice smell bad. But sometime due to financial reason we don't have a choice but to buy those rice provided by government (NFA) actually they don't smell bad. But we have to wash them until the water is clear enough. Thanks

Well I wash it three times and that's it. Well I worry about the nutrients being lost if I wash it too much. For it to smell good we usually add pandan leaves.
