We went to the state fair this past Monday. They had a special going, ride all day passes were only $20, so we bought each of the older kids a pass. We spent the majority of the day going on rides and playing games, the kids had a great time. We started in the kiddie area where my twin five year olds went on the majority of the rides, and even brought my toddler on a few. Then we headed over to the regular midway so my 11 year old could go on some rides. Well my daughter saw the big swing ride and wanted to go on it. I was thinking she would be terrified of it, so I made her watch it once, and warned her it went really high and really fast. She was really excited and still wanted to go, so I let her go on it. She loved it! Next she wanted to go on some other "big kid" rides. I tell you there wasn't a ride she wouldn't go on. She went on the Himalaya which spins really fast. She went on the hang glider ride. She wanted to go on rides that even I was afraid of, and the child is 5 years old. She actually was turned down on a few rides because she wasn't old enough, and she cried that she wasn't able to go on them! She loved them all, and wasn't ever scared once!Do you have a fearless child like this?

Yes I do, and she is 2 years old!! We went to a theme park a couple of weeks ago, and as we have littler kids we headed off towards the area for them. On the way we had to go through some of the adult rides and there were roller coasters and all sorts. My daughter wanted to go on them, we told her she was too little and she cried her eyes out! She wanted to go on everything, we managed to get her on the haunted house ride, and on it we had to shoot zombies, she loved it, and shot 1600 targets! My 6 year old son was petrified! Then we decided to go on the log flume, years ago there never used to be any height restrictions but they have changed the rules due to it having a couple of quite large drops, we did not know until it was our turn. The girl was quite young and she says "can you just stand her against the chart to see if she is big enough" so we were like "please dont say she is too small she will be heartbroke"!! We stood her against the chart and she was just a smidge under, the girl looked at it, looked at my daughter and said "oh go on she is not far under it"!! Yesss we were so chuft, we went on and she loved it, even the big drop at the end she had her hands up in the air! We managed to get her on one other bigger ride because she was just tall enough and so she had a ball, but she still cried because she could not go on the really big rides!

My younger son who is 21 months now seems to be like your daughter. He loves to do adventerous stuff and was quite happy with things I thought he would be scared of. He does seem to be the 'daredevil' kind. I wonder how he's going to turn out as he grows older. My older one was/is still a cautious child (he's 8 years old).

My 11 year old is cautious too. I ended up getting sick on some of the rides my daughter dragged me on, so I had to send my older son with her, and many of them he didn't want to go on.

That is really good that she was not scared of the rides. Some kids are scared, I know I was when I was young and going to the fair. There were rides that I didn't try till I was older. They were cool rides but now you have youngsters that will try a ride and like it. She could be one of those kids that the scarier the ride looks the more she wants to ride. I don't think that there is anything wrong with that. At least you know that at the age of 5 she is a big girl. Have a good one.

I don't have kids but my parents always took me and my younger twin sister(5minutes apart) to theme parks and rides when we were younger and we wouldn't leave the theme park until we sat on all of the rides! which was kinda cool as for most of the rides were for pairs to go on and I always had my sister and didn't have to be in one of those situation where the roller coaster man shouts "we got 1 more here!" though my brother was the chicken of the family even when he was 16 he wouldn't sit in the baby roller coasters not even the ones that just went one wee bit round.

I was the fearless child. My mom always had to keep an eye on me. A was a dare devil all the way. One time I was swingin on my swing set and swung over the bar. I just laughed and my mom almost passed out!

I am not a parent but my mother and father always tell me that my older twin and I are always fearless of everything that's why I also joined the football and wrestling team. I lawys go on every ride I can get to. Even when I was younger I went a lot of the big rides, I really didn't care how fast or how high the rides were as long as I was having fun.

i don't have a child yet at the moment... but as a child, i am definitely NOT a dare devil... i am scared of everything that can make me scared... :-) even until now... i won't go on a ride that goes too fast or too high as i will vomit after that... my hubby is NOT a dare devil as well... both of us are not a risk taker... so i think when we have a child (hopefully soon), i think we won't have a dare devil... take care and have a nice day...

OK so finally the entire family went and I hope your eldest enjoyed himself. I remember him particularly from one of your previous discussions. I have only one child and at 9 yrs, he is like normal. He enjoys the giant-wheels and roller-coasters (I’m deadly scared, getting old really) and such other types which generally make a fair exciting. We never took him when he was really small (your daughter’s age). BTW, I saw the pix and both of them are so cute. Where are the twins and the toddler?

My 19 month old is a little daredevil. Nothing scares the child. She is always all over everything climbing up and getting into things. If she were old enough to go on one of those rides I bet she would love it.

Yeah it is usually because the ride hasn't been made to suit a 5 year old, safety precautions, harnessing etc. That's great that she loved the rides, it helps when there are older sibling to look up to around, it stops it seeming so scary.

hi katsmeow when my son was little my husband and I took he and his little sister on the space mountain ride at DisneyLand and he and his sister loved it, so did my husband and me I was so scared I threw up when we got off the thing. I am a sissy when it comes to wild rides, and no I am never going to get on a roller coaster for anyone, no not ever.

Really speaking in my earlier life I had been taking to the rides in fairs. Now there are some amusement parks there is lot of rides for kids, grown up and adults also. I had experienced. There was one ride called dragon. Very fast up and down. My lone daughter to liked that. Now my daughter has grown up and to university. Still we use to go to the ammusement parks but there is a fear factor. Fast and high rides actually scare us.

I hate rides, well anything that goes fast or spins round or anything like that anyway.. my younger brother is the complete opposite though and always has been. He adores the big rides, and will think nothing of spending 4 hours queueing just to get onto a ride. He can go on every single ride thrown at him, and will ride the scariest one again and again until it is time to go home. I will never understand that, but I guess everyone's different.
