I am Chinese too, though not from China. Officially, we studied studying English from 6 years old (our first year in school - omit the kindergarten years).
However, the level of English in our academic system is deteriorating, so we can't depend on teachers and schools to help us develop our English language skills. I read a lot (fortunately I have a passion for English books), surf and chat online - which is mainly in English too. Moreover, I work in an environment where English is widely used, especially dealing with international companies.
So it's important to practise speaking and writing the language, not just learning it!

Actually it depends on how hard you are trying. If you just keep on practising without feeling shy that you make mistakes, you can definitely succeed. Pratice is what makes a man perfect. Keep trying and keep on trying. Check out other persons response. Try to figure out your mistakes and correct it. Taking little effort to identify your mistakes will give you success. All the best.

I find eEnglish to be easier than my mother tongue. In many ways is simpler. The gender and tenses are definitely simpler. And I think you will excel in it if you listen to good English news channels and read more, read anything but read. Watch National Geographic channel,Animal planet and BBC news, CNN....this will help you.
Good luck!

Yes friend, all this depends upon speaking, listening and loud reading capacity of the person in English. Spoken English is the practical form of expressing English using human voice. We read many things in English, but very often ignore this practical form hat is spoken English. So trying to develop it must help in improving understanding and speaking of English! Thanks for this nice discussion!

Not really.Be more confident ,practice more and you'll see your progress.I've been learning for like 7 years or so.Don't know how long it will take for someone to master English,I think it depends on how much time you spend on it and your learning skills.
