The break on the gas prices is over.

For a week or so, our gas prices went down to $1.29.9 a liter. So we were 'enjoying' not having to pay as much on the pump, that is until today. My husband and I were going to the Health Science Centre, to get him fitted for a brace for his lower leg, and I noticed that the Dominion Gas station had raise their prices to $1.35.5. All right, I thought, they are not self-serve so I guess the girls and guys have to have some money to pay them over the cost of gas, and taxes. But then I noticed that other stations who were self-serve had also raised their prices to $1.35.5 So far that is what is going on in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Has the gas prices gone back to what they were before the bargain where you are and by how much?

Keep in mind that this weekend is the long weekend. They would honestly be dumb if they didn't hike the prices up this weekend. That is also to get people to buy the gas if they are heading away for the weekend. That is a big money grabber for all gas/fuel stations on long weekends. They know people wanna go camping or whatever or wherever they are going. I am sure after the long weekend that it will be going down a bit.

It happens every summer, our gas prices are all right, but once the summer starts, then up goes the prices. I guess they are sending us a mixed message. Go out the city for your vacation, and at the same time, stay at home and walk everywhere. Don't they realize it that here we have snow from the end of October to the end of March. I mean we have to get out somehow, that is, if we can get by all that road construction. It is driving us crazy.

I live near a school and it is almost impossible with all the detours. We went down town and we had to to the Health Science Centre and for the last few weeks Market Place has been blocked and we had to go around, and the street besides the City Hall is broken up with construction.

Yes, I noticed that too. Here the prices were about 3.35 per gallon but today I saw the same stations at 3.49 a gallon and some even at 3.55 gal. Well looks like the party is over. Or it could just be that this is a holiday weekend and stations always raise their prices on holiday weekends to rake in all they can from the travelers. Hope that's it and the prices go back down later next week. But then we will probably be told there was hurricane damage to some oil refineries and that's why they have to raise prices again. That's getting to be a stale story by now.

I heard about the hurricane damage and just when you need the relief it does not come. I guess it is God's way of telling that they should have not let the environmentalists block off the oil already in Alaska, and other parts of the States. I always believe the oil is in the ground for a reason, for Americans to use when there is an emergency. I heard it is going to be a long and cold winter, so I hope they find a way to get cheaper oil beforethen.

Actually they would love to uncap those oil wells, but the environmentalists are blocking them at every turn. They were supposed to save endangered species but according to the environmentalists every species deserves protecting except for human beings and the ones that needs less protection are American of European origin. So you have to bombard Congress with your letters and emails and write to your senator. We cannot do it from Canada because they want you to write to your representative.

You know, we really do have plenty of oil in this country that we could be using. But for some reason the government would rather spend billions on foreign oil rather than spend it on uncapping old oil wells and updating the refineries needed to process it. I guess I just don't understand how government thinks.

That sounds like us, if you can translate gallons into liters, but we do pay a lot of taxes on ours. I guess it is because it is the holiday weekend or else they are reading the news about the hurricane and deciding to raise their prices just in case. You do not think they want us to stay in the city, do they?

I do not think that is nice. I do not want to pay higher price for gas, not when in a few months we will have a cold winter. If you live in a warm climate, it does not matter, but in my part of Canada, it starts to snow the end of October and is not finished until March.

In Canada 3.78541 liters equals one gallon. So when we had $1.29.9 a liter that would equal to less that $4.00 a gallon down there, but now that it is $1.35.5 a liter that equals to over four dollars a gallon. So here the gas war is over.

It is hard to figure out. I am not a mathematicians. I hated it when they changed from gallons to liters up here - I suppose to placate the French Canadians in Quebec.

Just so you'd know, from my part of the world fortunately the price of gas is going down. Just hoping the trend would continue till pump price goes back at least near enough its price a few months back.

Don't worry, it will start to climb. It depends on when you have your holidays and everyone is out on the road.

The gas here in southern Indiana has been about$3.60 a gallon for the last few days which is lower than it has been. Though there is a threat of the prices rising again due to the Hurricane that is headed towards the Gulf!

We had ours ar 1.35 a liter and then a couple of weeks ago it went down to !.29 a liter and now has gone back up. I hope this is temporary, but then we are allowed to use the gas on our lands and it is not protested by environmentalists as it is down in the States. We do not have to worry about them blocking access and we can do offshore drilling. I hope you are able to do that and uncap all those wells in the States so you donot have to depend on foreign oil.

I wish it was that low her. It's lower than it was; but still high. I did hear that they are looking to do some off-shore oil work to help in the USA. Greatful for that; that's for sure.

The prices have been down a little but not enough to get the ball rolling back to the way things were before they hit everyone with the $4.00 a gallon. Right now I would have to say that it's a good thing that prices have been down some. But you and I both know that this will not last for long. I just hope that the next president that is elected will be able to get some type of grip on the prices of oil. Also how the country has been dealing with those that the US purchases oil from that are not in the US.

It all depends on whether he will allow off shore drilling. I know McCain will, but Obama will want the prices to go sky high. I do not think he has America's interest at heart. And I doubt that he will let the wells be uncapped. So I hope you do get a good president, not just one who prefers to look at himself in the mirror and see "how good am I."

As this discussion is 4 months old, we all know that the price of gas has gone down a lot since you posted it. Right now it is only 70 cents a litre at some of the gas stations here. I don't remember when it was this low. The guy at the gas station says it was this low just one year ago but I don't think he is right about that. But then I think, he should know since he works in the industry and sees the price of gas every day. But I just don't remember it being this low last year. I love it, I have to say, because it was cutting our profit margins big time. My daughter and I clean houses for a living and we live in Calgary and have 50 KM, approx. each way because we clean houses in a town outside of Calgary. A town we used to live in but have moved away from. So we were spending around $500 a month on gas alone, and now that the prices are down we are only paying around $150 a month. So that leaves us more money for us instead of paying it to the gas companies and the government, in way of taxes. Right on. I hope it stays low or even goes lower. That would be nice. Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend, Have a good day mylotting, Chris

Yep, they're going up again, this time because of Hurricane Gustav. They'll use any excuse they can to rape our wallets and purses and we just stand here and take it. They say we use too much so the price is high but then we cut back and the price just gets higher. I remember complaining when it hit $1.97 a gallon. Heck, I remember paying $.37 a gallon!! Those were the good old days, fill up my car for $5 and run it all week!

I remember the good old days. I never drove but my foster mother could put fifty cents in the tank and she could get good mileage then. Could not get enough for a week but she could go to where she was going. Now that just take you around the block and most of it would be on gas fumes.

It is expensive for us. We have all those taxes included as well, but then we do not have environmentalists blocking access to gas producing lands because they want to protect the gophers.

I am sure part of it has to do with the holiday weekend, here in the U.S. we tend to see prices go up a little every summer weekend, but especially when there is a holiday. I think it partly has to do with everything going on in the world...I have noticed the speculators are again trying to stir things up, talking about tensions in Russia, hurricanes, etc., in an attempt to raise the prise of oil. However, so far I have not seen an increase in price, I noticed prices still going down as recently as yesterday. Today they stayed the same. I think the gas stations are afraid of a backlash if they raise prices too soon.

I figure it is the holiday weekend. I guess they want us to walk to have a picnic someplace. The trouble is that there are no large parks in our area, because they decided to build houses instead. I heard of those speculators, I guess they get free gas by the way they talk.

The higher of gas prices sometimes really annoying. In my country the abusive of high price can have an effect in price of goods in the market. Maybe gas would be instinct in the future - it is a fossil fuel. There are alternatives to pin down this company, mabe men would invent something alternative to counter the highing prices of gas in the market

Sometimes the substitutes is worse than the cure. In parts of the States, they are taking grain fields out of food production and converting them to ethanol and that puts the prices of food up. In the part of Canada where they live, they are using the ground underneath for heat - geothermo energy, but that is more suited for buildings, but if you could just use oil and gas for transportation and maybe use wind mills, and other forms (not the ethanol because that takes food out of your chiildrens' mouths, then it would be much better.

Yes. Its back up to $3.54 here. I think its because it is a holiday weekend and also the people south of here are coming up due to the approaching hurricane so they are going to gouge us for every penny they can get.

I did see that oil prices are on the rise again. I thought it was like that here in the US becausee of the hurricanes that are hitting us so hard. Who knows. Someone is making the money. (And they don't even have to write discussions. :)
