When coloring your hair, your hair shrinks around 20%. And if she is coloring her hair 2 times a month, imagine how much her hair is shrinking. And all the chemicals in the color will damage the hair. Try not to color your hair too much or it can get very dry and break off.

it isnt bad for your health unless you are pregnant. the chemicals can harm the baby...you should not colour more than every 6 weeks to avoid hair breakage tho

I use hair color about every 4 weeks, and I haven't had any side effects. I used to go to the hair stylist and have it colored everywhere 4 weeks and that was fine also.

My wife told me once that she wanted to color her hair, but most of the hair colors contained ammonia and when she applied it, she could hardly breathe. The one she has used for some time now is Color Silk. This one is Ammonia-Free, so this is the one she would recommend.
Thanks for your response

My doctor said it was safe during pregnancy even, as long as I didn't have it touch my scalp. I just did highlights w/ foils and made sure it didn't touch my scalp. I guess it could get into your bloodstream that way. My hairdresser used a natural blend just to be safe.

Tell your wife to go to a salon to have her hair colored and to stop dying her hair with the stuff you buy at stores.
Salons now have dye that can actually STRENGTHEN your hair instead of adamage it.
If she wants to keep doing it herself then tell her to go to a shop that sells better quality coloring and to find the conditioning color for hair.

It's not safe, It's hard to say how often is not safe, because everbody is different, there is no standard about this. the best way is not use it at all, then you have nothing to worry about.

I guess if she's doing hair treatment after the hair colour then it should be ok, constant colouring will make the hair very very dry. Couple of years back, I kept on changing my hair colour and even went for digital perm, my hair was like broom. LOL it took me months to make my hair softer with constant treatments.
