Just read Mylot rules, don't understand all of them. What is a troll?

I also thought I didn't know what that flame thing was, but they said not to harass or get people upset or inflame them so I guess that defines that. No trolls. Not sure what that is. Said no jokes, no recipes and no picking on someone's spelling (can you imagine me doing that, with all my invented spelling?), no saying, "I don't know" or "I don't care." No personal information. No repeat discussions.
I just reviewed this because a friend's discussion was deleted. May have been a repeat or may have been asking for too much personal information. At any rate, I checked because I was looking to see if anything new was added and I guess it was more like I forgot some of them. There are so many rules.
So when was the last time you reviewed the rules? Do you understand all of the rules? Are there some that you tend to forget?

Well, I didn't know about the troll. What is that.?
Are we writing under a bridge or what?
I did send a receipt last night. The first time. But in my defense.
EVERYONE ELSE DOES IT. Ha! Ha !
The spelling thing gets on my nerves to. at least try.
If there weren't repeats there wouldn't be any discussions. Would their?
And I hate a response :
Thank You
Thanks For Your Response
Thanks
I Agree
I'd rather people not even waste my time. What about you?

I read a few of the rules when I first joined and then realised that they were rather ridiculous. Also a troll is someone that just joins forums to spam, cause trouble etc. Just basically a bad person that people do not want on a forum community.
The funny thing is that the rules say no jokes, no recipes, yet people do that all the time and none of their threads are closed. What type of place would it be if people did not tell jokes and joke on ... a boring one.
Also if people ask for personal information, you do not have to tell them more than you are comfortable with. To some people their name is "personal information" and to some their country is and to others neither of these are, so that really is very loose and down to matter of opinion.

Yes, what personal information that are talking about would be nice.
I see recipes and jokes here often, too. I think people were plagerizing or just doing jokes and recipes off the net. I also think it depends on whether people are reported or not, too.

It should be what personal info they are (not that are) talking about. Sorry

I do not see a problem with people copying recipes off the internet as long as they say that it is not theres, for example:
I found this great recipe on a website and cooked it and it was a great meal, my family and I loved it, this is the recipe:

The Urban Dictionary has a good definition:
"People who use the internet to purposefully antagonize other people, start problems, insult, and hurt others. Typically via forums, when done in a moderated community it can result in banning."
I understand the rules...and the last time I saw them was years ago, when I joined up lol.

The rules change every once in awhile, so it's a good idea to check them. Jokes were allowed, I thought, when I first came. The alerts now tend to help if they alert when they make changes.
Urban Dictionary, never heard of it. Webster, Collegiate, lots of dictionaries I've heard of, but not that one. So can us country people use it (just kidding). Sounds like I will have to get one and also start a country hick-a-fied one so urban people can understand us ( and I don't mean a Jeff Foxworthy kind of thing).
Thanks for an official definition. That looks like a good one.

No jokes? I hope that doesn't include a joke stated in the context of a response. Sometimes things strike me funny. Also, are we supposed to remember everything we read? Or, sometimes a person would just think of something they'd like to discuss, and start it, without realizing the discussion had been opened once. I wonder how far back someone would have to research, to discover if their discussion were a repeat?

We used to be able to do jokes, at least I thought we were. I think maybe people started picking on others as a joke or people started plagerizing. Maybe someone asked that question when they asked for questions awhile ago and maybe that person can give us the answer. Or maybe someone remembers the question pages and their address. Thanks and take care

I feel it is a good idea to visit the rules regularly as there could be changes appear. I visit them at least every other day because I have a habit of trying to help and advise users in the MakeExtraMoney section and there are so many infractions there sometimes difficult to explain.
A troll was also something I did not understand when I first joined as it is not a word I use.
I have now learnt it is applied to another user who follows others giving them negative ratings or responding negatively to their posts. If we come across these idiots they should be reported.
Hope this helps and happy posting!

Ah yes, I understand now. The harassers and stalkers are trolls. Ok, I get it. Thank you very much for responding mysdianait.
I don't review the rules as often as I should, esp. with my memory. Thanks and take care.

walkthetalk indeed we do not know who is rating who and with what but the trolls usually state what they are doing and this was what I intended.
I think a troll is a weak person who gets s kick out of doing something negative and therefore would be giving negative responses and negative ratings - get it now?
Sorry for the confusion.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is confused by the rules. I thought I was missing something. Most site lay out the rules nice and simple. Here it took me a while to even find them, much less understand them!
I also don't know how you would know if a discussion is a repeat or not. I'm finding it very hard to find many discussions to begin with. Some things tend to come up with the search engine, but not others. Others which should come up on the search engine, I seem to stumble into somewhere else.
I like this site so far, but I have to admit, I'm stumbling my way through it and learning as I go. They need to set up the rules and faqs better.

U agree with you, when I first started, I had to learn a lot through trial and error or asking my new friends here.
I think people were plagerizing recipes or just putting links. I think starting with a recipe is not really considered a conversation started. Not sure, but that may be it. Maybe someone else will respond and answer better. Thanks for responding and take care

A troll is someone who purposely goes around picking fights with members in hopes of either messing up their rating or getting the person banned. Some of the rules seem useless but there are reasons for them. I never understood the No Recipes rule until I found out that when they were allowed ppl were posting dozens of them everyday in order to boost their ratings and it was clogging up the discussions so that the regular discussions were getting buried. I look at the rules every now and then and I understand them all so it's not a big deal for me. I do think ppl need to read through them more often to avoid problems here.

I just skimmed over that section but I don't think any discussions I've started have been deleted and I tend to avoid the ones that will be deleted like the recipe discussions.
I've been on lots of different forums and for a long time though and they all have the same rules. I don't go looking to annoy or upset anybody as I'm not that kind of person. So I reckon there isn't much point reading them fully.

Since they change often and we used to be able to do recipes and jokes, I do try to check them every so often. Esp. when something I responded to gets deleted or something gets deleted and I want to understand why. This is the only discussion forum I'm on. Take care and thanks.

I think you're right. Too bad, there were some fun jokes on here. I also think it's easy to offend people and many jokes nowadays focus on groups of people. Thanks and take care

I knew about recipes as anyone can just cut and paste recipes and get a really long discussion thread going. I suppose it's the same with jokes. I suppose mylot wants there to be genuine discussions, not just cut and pasting with no thought behind it.
