I've tried a few times and it worked work fine. I started fasting from 6am to 6pm. However, my fast only excludes food. I cannot live with no water. I haven't tried fasting with no water. I doubt I can survive it.
I fast because I feel the need to make sacrifices (just like how God sacrifice for us).

Hi iyah, it's an interesting topic. When I was young with 17 years old I left my house to live alone. In the begin I didn't have money to buy food so I still making fast for a while untill I got a job. What a hard time OMG! So I know what people that don't have food feel like. And I try to help them because I never will forget it. Believe me it is the most hard thing that someone can feel in life.
Cheers and have a nice day.

In fasting time if you dint fast before you will feel headache, dizzy, but you will learn someday what is the best thing to do when your fasting.also Not because i want my prayer to answer, because i want to sacrifice the time, minute that i make a mistake and also it is already a tradition in muslim country to fast, like myself im fasting during this ramadan time.
Happy Ramadan Kareem to you iyah10

I have been On Fasting on Many occasions.. as you said.. There are days when, two successive days the auspicious days fall.. and i used to observe fasting.. Ofcourse on the second day.. i have to take some Glucose and water..but on the day one.. i will be strict..
It does not mean that God will not answer our prayers if we does not FAST, but it is a kind of self imposed discipline on us... Fasting helps us to control our senses.. it helps us to focus our mind to the divine aspect..a more..

Hello iyah10,
I have no problem to fast for the whole day as I get used to it. Of course it is hard at first, but as long as you get used to it, nothing is impossible. There are many reasons why do you fast like in Islam, it is a need to fast for the whole month of Ramadhan and for Hindus, they too do their fast for some good reason.

I'm fasting today, and it's been a six days. I have 24 more days to go. The reason is because of my religion, but I don't have problem with it since I have practised since child. Yes it's true sometimes I felt really tired and worn out, but its not that hard and its good for body too. Somehow i believe it teach me to be patient and strong too.

hello jyah,, i tried it in navratri (it is a Indian festival),, and my feeling was nice. it make your all atmosphere holy like soul.. i felt it. but often i don't try it because i think we should do fast by our nature,, by our heart, my our mind, by our soul, by your truthfulness..
i take fast, sometime for prayer. and sometime to balance my weekly diet..
some time intensionally for God.. and sometime for nothing..
have a nice day..

yes. that was way back then when I am still in high school. I am one of the beauty contestants at that time, and our parade started at around 7 am. I can't even eat at that because I am very nervous, and I wanted my tummy to stay flat, since I am wearing a national costume which my tummy flaunt.. the competition ends up at around 9 pm.. I only drink water the whole day, since I am not in the mood to eat, and to busy at that time.
it doesn't feel good, and I feel dizzy at that time. I've tried to eat after the contest, but I already lost appetite, and I think I've got ulcer, so my stomach really aches.

As you can see, I am from India and here fasting is a way of life among the followers of almost every religion. I was also introduced to fasting during my childhood, by my family on religious grounds. But now after growing up, I can very well understand its benefits on the basis of scientific research. So now I do fasting regularly (at least once in a week or fortnight) for its benefits for my body and mind.

I can handle the not having anything to eat for a day but I can't go without a diet coke I would go through caffeine withdraw to much! I don't think you will have a prayer answered just becasue you were fasting.

Yes my dear...it is in my routine..I know, in a previous discussion, you have mentioned about month of RAMADAN..
So, you can understand...I am in this practice..and today, in my country, it is the first day of this holy month...
I fell, just not eating or drinking is not enough...we must keep our heart, eyes ears and tongue, clean and pure. This way we can keep clean our souls. And, we should practice this not only in this holy month, but regularly..

Hi ya iyah10
When I was with my muslim husband I used to fast with him during ramadam. At this time I did not pray but felt it was the right thing to do. I didn't really think too much about how I felt as I just got on with it because I still had to get the children up for school and feed them etc.

I've fasted before, but never without water. I usually fast with just no food and only water. But I also go for more than a day. As a Wiccan we we will fast for various reasons. Sometimes just for the day like before a Sabbat (holiday), or for up to 3 days for some rituals. There is also a 7 day fast for some but that includes eating only fruits and vegetables and drinking water and nothing else.
I always like how I feel after a fast. I think a few days without chemicals and additives that are in many foods helps you feel cleaner and healthier.

I did try fasting once or twice in my life.
During "lent season" this season comes before "good Friday" before Easter..
My mom told me to fast and on that day no body would cook any food and no body will eat any fruit or any thing just drink water if you want to!!
It was kind a rule in my house well in other words what mom tried to make it a rule!!
But obviously she failed.. Specially with me I just can't be at my peace if I am not given any thing to eat may be because I am emotional eater. I just can't.
I would always ask forgiveness from Jesus for this..
but Know I have changed my perspective!
I feel that fasting for your prayers to get answered is not a good idea.. Its like making a deal with god, or a threat to God almighty Himself self!!
In fact go out there and feed some poor people and do some charity. Give them your old clothes and why wait form some prayer .. you can do it regularly once a week just go out and feed at least one beggar.
It is what I feel is the better option.

interesting topic.
Perhaps the good news is that fasting has scientifically proven physical and physiological benefits too.
For one thing, the toxins that have accumulated are given a chance to be removed from the body. Also, the extra body fat that may be hindering blood circulation may be removed by fasting.
It is interesting that diseases caused by overeating: such as diabetes II and high-blood pressure would be lessened in occurences if more people are fasting more frequently.
"Perhaps if more people would fast more and give their food to those who are starving too often, there will be less sick (rich) people and more hopeful (poor) people.
What do you think? Cheers :)
