Only on the sweeter side of MyLot? DARE to contradict?

MyLot is indeed a wonderful medium to express and connect with different people all over the globe. Some people claim they stick around here for the money, some for just having a good time and some for both. Its been wonderful so far and Ive had a great time here meeting new people, expressing my view and Im not gonna deny it; the money. But the more I myLot, the lesser the `money factor` becomes. Its been exactly a month here and it just gets better! Im now more interested in the discussion than anything else and what Ive noticed is that most if not all the replies to a discussion are in perfect agreement with each other. Thats great. We have a lot of like mined people out here. But does the money and reputation system have something to do with this phenomenon? A good discussion has to view the subject matter from all possible angles. I'm wondering if there are people out there who write just to get a better chance of earning a positive rating OR fear of being marked negative simply because they don't agree with someone. Honestly, do all of you out there dare to contradict if you have a different view? Any unhappy experiences for expressing what you feel?

Hi A3sachin.. Yes after you are here for awhile the money doesn't venture into it..now how could it when you only make pennies?..Mine keeps accumulating in paypal till I feel its worth spending.. I write what i want..help if someone needs..ignore if they are not worth discussing with anymore..and could care less if I lose points since I just come back and post to someone else's to gain them right back..I've been booted down to a 6 star from having a 10 and now back to a 9 almost a 10 again..I like having fun with friends here and if I start having a life then I leave and do that..afterwards come back and sometimes tell about it here.. Welcome to mylot and huggs

I never give other myloters bad marks no matter if i disagree or not as long as they respectfully disagree and are not rude about it.

Yeah thats good. I always speak out my mind but Ive never marked anyone negative. Many times Ive marked a post positive even if I don't completely agree with cos it puts forward an interesting argument :)

I try to read the discussions as thoroughly as possible, i like to make sure i understand the discussion before i respond, and i think its fun to see all the topics, but yea, sometimes i do try to sensor myself when posting topics because i dont want to brake any mylot rules, besides i dont think anyone here wants to get kicked off of mylot for one bad discussion or a small miss understanding and as far as disagreeing with other myloters i dont mind if someone disagrees with me as long as we respectfully disagree and i would never give someone a low mark because i disagree with them i feel that everyone has the right to there opinion and as long as no one gets rude its no problem for me, and when i make topics i try and make fun and interesting topics that i can relate to and of course im sure we all hope that our discussions are read by everyone but thats not the only reason we make them.

Glad to hear that :) very few people actually read the main content of the discussion. They just read the subject and respond. Its kinda annoying when people do that to your discussion.

Yes, this site is a Great place to be. I have been here almost 23 months myself, and I would not trade my experiences here for the world. I have met many wonderful people and learned a lot about things I might not have known about otherwise. Yes, the extra $$ is nice, but there is a lot more reason to be here than this.

well, i agree with you that this is a wonderful place to meet people from all over the world and communicate... but at the same time, i had seen many good people here being abused and left here because they voice their different opinions... i feel so bad and so sad for them... i wish this place can be a more peaceful place where everybody can feel free to voice their opinions without being abused...

I think that the main reason people agree is out of fear that their discussion will be deleted if they say anything about mylot or they might get a negative rating. I am not so bothered about a negative rating, but I hate a discussion getting deleted. I once made two discussions, one said "What do you love about mylot" and the other "what do you hate about mylot", I always though allowing people to express both sides on an opinion was a good thing, but mylot thought other wise and deleted the discussion.

Thats too bad. I feel the basis on which we are rated must be changed. And people should be more open minded. The problem is that most ppl are stone headed. Many MyLoters dont know that they are not supposed to mark anything negative just because they dont agree with it. Thats just not fair.

I haven't seen those two discussions, so I can't say for sure, but perhaps the discussion was deleted because it was too simlar to the other discussion. If people are talking about what they like about Mylot, chances are they'll also and in what they hate about MyLot.

a3sachin I agree that someone should not be marked down in rankings, just because their opinion differs to someone elses. iakulchen, they were not simular discussion, because one was about liking and one was about disliking and neither overlapped the other. The reason I think it was deleted was because mylot did not like anything bad being said about the forum although all the responses were in a constructive way. The one about liking mylot still exists and was not deleted.

I'm new to mylot, but I'm thinking that one reason not discussed yet is social expectations. Many people are afraid to be viewed as rude, or don't like controversy. There are a lot of passive people out there, because we've been taught from a young age to always be "nice." While I think we should be nice to one another, I think many people believe the only way to do so is by agreeing with others. I think there is a fear that people may not like you if you don't agree with their beliefs/values. When in fact, shouldn't that be the whole point of these discussions? Don't we want perspectives that we may not have thought of ourselves? I don't think anyone should be afraid to disagree. I just think they should have couth when doing so.

As a writer, the money factor does enter it and it is not getting less. In fact, the more I write here the more I want to make, that is until I finish my novel and it is published and on the shelves of the fantasy section of my local bookstore, and on Amazon.com and ca. and on the major book stores. So because of that, I will do my best to post or respond here. Oh and I believe is getting paid for doing something you love and I love writing. I also am a snoop, like to poke my nose into things, and this is one way of doing it. I also love to hear what is doing on, and since I am not that good a talker, this is the best way to do it. I do think the reputation has something to do with it though. For instance much of the money depends on how many friends answer your post, and therefore the more the better and if someone disagrees with you, they may give you a negative or report you and they may get their friends who were yours to no longer be your friend and therefore the amount of responses you get and your pay goes down. So sometimes I find it hard to express what I really feel, and it did happen. That right after I did, I lost some friends and got insulted.

I like reading the comments and thoughts of other people, and you get some great advice here sometimes too. I do like the fact that we get paid. I just wish they paid more. I would love to be able to work from home doing stuff like this, but there is no way to make enough money to pay the bills.

IF I don't agree with something, or somebody, I will let them know. I try to be respectful about it, though. I think of it this way, Do we always agree with our family, or friends? Do those disagreements keep us from caring about those people? Not in my case they don't. I like to have friends who will disagree with me, who will call me on something when I screw up, who will give me a run for my money, but at the same time, will back me up when I need them to. Controversy and diversity are what make life interesting. We don't have to be rude, or hateful about those differences of opinions. If I am interested in a discussion, I will rate the discussion and all the responses. The only time I would ever give a negative rating is if that person makes it a habit of being down right hateful in responses. Otherwise, everyone gets a positive rating for being able to be an intelligent, respectful human being.
