Yesterday my neighbor gave me a book, and when I mentioned returning it she said I didn't need to, she never reads a book twice. She then went on to tell me that she normally throws them in the garbage! And she buys them new! It makes me sick to think of how many books she's thrown out that I or someone else would've been happy to have!! Can you believe how wasteful this is?

I suggest you borrow all her books from her to avoid this from continuing. There are plenty of organizations the books can be donated to. There are seniors' homes who would love to have them, libraries, or even charitable secondhand stores like the Salvation Army.
I don't care what the book is, if I see one in the garbage I'd be digging it out whether I read it or not. That's just not where they belong. That is disgraceful!

Hi my friend, what a waste, she should give them away or donate them to a charity or to the library. I don't know why she buys them new in the first place, she should get them from the library to read.

wow that is unbelievable! I buy my books mostly at yard sales and then when I'm done I will either pass them on to someone else or I will put them in our yard sale. I can't believe she would just throw them away? who does that?

That is really crazy! Does she know about other options to get rid of them? Like if there are any used bookstores in the area? Maybe you should bring this up to her? Or just suggest whenever she is thinking of throwing them out to give them to you? That is really bad if that is what she does.

KNowledge is such a useful thing, especially if it is helpful to fill otehr's minds, she could have at least sold them onlne, at a very low price if she needed to sell these books desperately or even give them to the library. I'd love to have all her books, let me know what they are if you willing.

Given the price of a new book ($12-$30), I can't believe she would just chuck them when she is done. She should certainly pass them on to others or donate them. Really, if she's only going to read them once, anyway, she should just get a library card and save herself a lot of money.

I cannot believe that your neighbor throws books away after she reads them!! If that is the case, she can go to the library to check some out or she can donate them or resell them or let you have them. Geez, such a wasteful action!!

That sure is a lot of waster! She could have donated the book to a library or a charity... And come to think of it... she can also give it to someone who loves reading... What a waste!

She proabbly ran out of shelf space. I have the same problem. I find that I'm running out of space for my books, but unlike her, I can't bear to throw them away, it seems such a waste.

I would start looking through her trash on trash day! lol Actually I'd just ask if she'd be willing to pass them all over to me. Then I'd post them on paperbackswap.com and get some more books.
I don't think I've ever met anyone who would just throw away books like that. They at least donate them or something. I even have a hard time throwing away a book that is so falling apart that no one would want it. Though by that time it usually is ready for the bin, it still makes me uncomfortable to do it.
