Avatars

It has come to my attention lately, that alot of members are judging whether they are talking to a male or a female on the appearance of their avatar. Simply not right. I am a General Hospital fanatic (the day time soap) and spend many hours discussing the daily happenings and what is about to happen on my fav show. On this site, as well as many others. Recently I was propositioned by someone at my sceeencap site on Fotki where I upload daily snapshots of this daytime drama. Yep, solely on the appearance of my avatar, which happens to feature Rebecca Herbst and Steve Burton the actors who portray my favorite couple on said show. Thanks for the compliment people--makes me feel pretty to think that YOU think I am as gorgeous as lovely Rebecca. I also just came across a post of someone's asking the author to change avatars because they thought she was a guy. Gorgeous Steve Burton was featured on that avatar. No one needs to change their avatars because some misguided posters don't know if they are talking to a make or female. If you wanna know, just ask, I say! I am a female and enjoy my soap opera world and avatars are supposed to reflect your interests and say a little about who you are. I also noticed the complaintents are not using any avatar at all. So unless the avatar is blatantly offensive, I say go ahead and use whatever makes you happy. What do you say???

I agree. One should never make assumptions about a person based on one small piece of information like an avatar. I certainly look nothing like mine! I don't think it is fair to ask a person to change their avatar. I have seen a few that were offensive, but even then I didn't tell the person to change it. Who am I to tell others- especially perfect strangers- what to do? If I don't like it, I just don't look. Others should do the same.

Thanks so much Laura and Sillychick. I do venture outside of the General Hospital categories form time to time (imagine that) and it was a horrible shock to realize some were being judged for who they are upon the appearance of their avatars!

I agree, unless it is offensive then it's nobody's business! And I don't understand why people would complain about others not having an avatar? That's really strange. If they don't want one then they don't have to have one!

Exactly, bunzor--a matter of personal preference. I also just didn't understand someone with no avatar asking someone else to change their avatar. You are right, it is absolutely no one's business, except maybe the site admins to worry about offensive ones.

Most of the time I can tell professional pics like your avatar just by the lighting and such...I'd say if you like it use it. As for propositions, some ppl do it regardless of avatars...their just that way . There was another member here who was mistaken for a guy although most ppl could tell by her avatar that it was a girl...I could at least. I can usually tell if it's a guy or a girl by their discussions and profile. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I think from the Avtar of your ID it can not be determined about the author being a male or female, if some one mistakenly feel it and put some type of words it can be one's madness towards the interest. Yes some experience persons can adjudge your feelings and thoughts from the avatar with your ID or name.

I think you should use what you want.
