i have always heard that dogs are really easy to train but i have had cats and they are pretty smart too, i mean i have a dog now and he is a smart dog and i know that he is smart because he picks up things really easily, and he is just smart overall with the things that he does on a daily basis, and then i have a cat and they seem really smart i have taught them tricks too and it seems like its easier for them to be potty trained because they just pick it up at nothing it seems like, so i was just wondering what your opinion is, do you think that dogs are easier trained than cats? thanks for taking the time out of your day to read my discussion and i hope that you will reply...i really hope that you all had a great day and that your night is good as well, again thanks for taking the time to read my discussion.

For me yes dogs are more intelligent and easier to train. I have dogs and cats and I prove that dogs are easy to handle with than cat. But cats are more playful some times and energetic. Cats know how too poo If they will train them earlier just like dogs but aside from that there are things that they can't do that a dog can do and vice versa but though both of them are intelligent.

i agree that sometimes it seems like cats have more energy but it seems as they get older all they want to do is sleep...thanks for taking the time to reply to my discussion!

In my opinion it is definitley easier to potty train a cat- you show them once- and that is that....while a dog will make mistake after mistake on your floor and will only learn after being crated for his/her mistakes. As far as tricks and stuff goes- I can't say I could comment on that because I have never tried to teach any of my cats and tricks. Or for that matter my dog- unless you call her obediance commands tricks...lol

I think dogs are easy to train than cats. Cats are usually playful and do whatever they like. My cat always do what they like.

Yes. Dogs are easier to train than cats. From what I have read, dogs are ranked as intelligent animals in the world. They easily get commands. They are smart.

I had a really hard time training my cocker spaniel, Toby, but he has finally caught on to things. I have two cats and both of them are so easy to train. They are so smart. It wasn't even like training I just showed them where to go and they went there. Now they know to eat in the laundry room and then go to the door to go outside.

Dogs are easier to train. They are more receptive and eager to do something for their owners. Now cats can be trained, but with them decide what they will train you for that will benefit them in the long run. But ya gotta luv em! DCMerkle

so far, i have successfully trained two cats to fetch. of course, i think it's because they wanted to do this. i don't think cats are easily trained. i've seen cats that lift a paw for food, but cats seem to be very independent thinkers. they don't crave the need to show you their compliance like a dog will. using a litter box is a basic instinct for a cat. most will do this immediately. now, i've always been very impressed with cats who use the toilet just like their human. i can tell, you that beginning as a kitten is the easiest. i have one car who will come when i call his name. we began as a kitten. the other cat was one year old and i've never been able to get her to respond to her name. she is from the no-kill shelter. the first month i obtained her, i tried to interest her in some catnip toys. wasn't interested. on my back porch, i had a little container of gravel for plants. she'd pick up a piece of gravel in her tiny mouth and toss it up and chase it. i guess as an outdoor cat, she needed to find her own toys.

I think dogs are much better than cats in terms of having them as pets. Dogs are well-known as man's best friend, and for good reason. Dogs will look up to you as their leader, for most part, thanks to their biological need to have an established hierarchy, so they'll follow their leader (you) when you issue commands. They tend to be more social creatures than cats. I've never owned a cat before, so I can't speak from experience. But from what I've seen, cats generally seem more spiteful as they grow up, being cute and social when they're young, but abandon you once they mature and become dependant. I'm not sure if this is true for all cats, but I'm generally more in favour of dogs.

I thought dogs were the only ones that could be trained. Cats at least the ones i've had are not at all trainable. They have a mind of their own and want nothing to do with you unless they want something. You dont train cats, cats train you. My dogs do whatever you ask and always want to please you. They are extremely intelligent and can learn just about anything you want to teach him. All it takes is patience.
