What do you feel or how would you react when someone asks you "how old are you"?

Do you feel embarrased to tell how old you are? Or you're just proud to tell you're this and that old? I know some people who are like shy to tell they're real age when being asked. Especially those who are a bit older already. Why do you think others don't like to tell their real age? Sometimes other people when being asked about their age they just laugh and answer back with the question "you guess how old I am" rather than replying back with a number. As if the person asking wouldn't have the hint that they don't want to tell their age. Are you one of these people? - hiding their true age or being shy when they get old and don't want to tell anybody if possible? Do you find it rude sometimes when a person asks how old you are?

It irritates me when people ask that because I think it's a rude question. I'm not ashamed or embarrassed by my age, but unless there's a reason (like for a job interview), there's really no reason to ask other than nosiness. You'd just as well ask how much money I have in the bank... no one's business but my own except maybe the bank's and business connected information.

I don't think its rude, but then again I'm a guy. LOL Well I guess old people wouldn't want to share their age because it makes them feel old, mortal, it makes them think they have limited options on what they can do and how they can live their lives. But this shouldn't be the case, one can never be too old especially when it comes to living life. I'm very happy to share my age and if someone ask me for my age and after I tell them next they tell me am I not to old for what I'm doing, I'm just going to say you're just too young and inexperienced to understand. :) I was taught that those who are older than me should be treated a bit more extra special and should be given lots of respect, and I guess its a lesson well learned because I'm proud to grow older.

Hi! I think people don't like telling their age because they don't want to be reminded of being old. Well, no one really wants to feel old I guess. I agree with you also that older people are treated with more respect than younger ones. But generelly, we should respect everyone regardless of their age. Ciao!

You are right, age doesn't matter for we should respect everybody. This world will definitely be a better place once people respected others more.

lol....honestly I do that I ask people to guess my age..why? because It makes me proud to say people give me a younger age than my real age because of how I look and it just makes me happy. I am actually 35 now but people give me a 20+ age.. Atleast by that I know I won't grow old fast..hehe..Sometimes I dont like telling my age because people don't want older people as their friends or they sometimes wants you to act your age..lol..I am a type of person who don't act it. I have 5 kids now but people mistake me as the sister of my 16 year old daughter. I act young, I feel young and I live young that's just about it. I guess that slows up the aging process..

Hello,Iskayz! I don't feel bad to say my age.Rather I boastfully say that I am a young man of only seventy. However,I advice you not to ask a lady about her age and don't ask a man about his income because they don't like to tell you the correct things.Even I can't tell you about my income.thanx.

I am not really ashamed to tell my age. There people who are shocked after I tell them my age, they always think that I am younger. I think some people don't like to tell their real age because like you said they are embarrassed of the age that they are and they may think that people will think differently of them because of their age. I sometimes ask people to guess my age, because I think its funny that they think that I am younger and I like to see their face when they see how really old I am. People think that I am like 16 or 18 and I am actually 26.

16 when you're really 26? That's 10 years younger. In your case one shouldn't really be embarrassed to tell their true age.

While I do not find it rude when anyone asks my age, I do tell them to take a guess. Reason being, most people still think I am in my early 20's even though I am in my early 30's actually. It is quite amusing to see the shock on their face when I tell them my true age.

I tell them how old I am. Sometimes I ask them how old they think I am. They never guess right. They guess anywhere from 10 to 20 years younger than I actually am. In all honesty AARP keeps sending me crap. Yes, I am that old. If I walked into their office they would look at me and ask me why I'm there. Not gloating, just fact.

Iskayz, I don't hide my age. I might later in life but I don't see that happening any time soon. I usually tell people how old I am because when they ask and I tell them that I am 27, I usually get the response of, "NO WAY! I thought you were WAY younger than that!" I love the way I look and if I can fool people and still be my age, I'll keep it up :D Thanks for the post :D

I have no problem with it and always tell the truth. But then again I look good for my age no one believes I am going to be 60 in a few weeks. Also think about this if you lie and tell them you are younger they may thik you look awful for you age. But I have very good ego, I do not need to prove anything to anyone.

I think I will react normally. I think there are no problem or fear that someone ask me about my age. Maybe not answering the question directly is usually I do. Because I like to joke to people. But I will tell my real age. Talking or telling our age is not a shy act or give me a negative effect.

I don't have a problem telling people how old I am. I really don't understand people's problem with this. We are all getting older all the time and with luck we'll reach a decent age and still be healthy enough to enjoy life. People that worry so much about appearing young are probably creating more wrinkles from worry and stress. I'm 52 and yes, it is difficult sometimes seeing the little changes in the mirror but you adjust and make the best of it. The only shame in growing older is when someone tries desperatly to still be young...that is sad. You can be young spirited and still be ok with being your age.

Why would I lie about my age? If I said I was younger, people might not think I am that young. When I tell people that I am going to be 54 in October, they tell me they did not think I was that old. I like that better!!! LOL

when someone asks me "how old are you" i will have a grin on my face then answer them back "you make a guess" lol but if they will guess wrong, i'll never tell a lie about my age & tell them my real age. in fact age is just a number, if you're young at heart then it will just follow, you will get young inside & out hehehe..

No I don't hide my age, I've lived every year of it and I deserve it. I must admit when I was younger and people thought I was younger then my age I was flattered, but not any more. Now I'm a Greatgrandmother to a two year old.

No, I am not embarassed at all if someone would like to ask with my age otherwise I am so happy and proud to reach my age at this time and would wished more to reach an older age in the future for age is a sign of a wiser person in each of the experience that we encounter in our life.....
