Hi stellarjade,
I suggest reading the greatest of vampire stories, Dracula by Bram Stoker. Also recommend Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. These are classics and you will love them.
Also recommend books by Stephen King, Anne Rice. Hope that helps, God bless, Leofa

Great suggestion. Classics are always the way to go. I have heard that Anne Rice books are stellar, so I will check them out.

Hi, I love horror stories...not so much the vampire type, but those about spirits, ghosts and human evil!
I have read the collection of horror stories (Fortuna & Pan collection) - these are old books, but they are very good. The other collection is from Alfred Hitchcock ... you know those ...'Stories to be read with the lights on....' and so forth. I think I've seen these on ebay.

I will check them out. I have found that a lot of the older books/authors have some great stuff.

I want to introduce a classical Chinese book to you: Liaozhai Zhiyi or strange tales of a lonely studio written by Pu Songling in Qing Dynasty. It's full of horrible, supernatural, romantic, soul-searching short stories. Many of them are adapted to TV, movie or other art formats.

That sounds a little different from what I usually read, but I'm always looking for new things to check out.

I love horror books as well. I'd recommend two anthologies, if you don't mind reading short-fiction:
999 edited by Al Sarrantonio
Gathering the Bones by Jack Dann, Ramsey Campbell, and Dennis Etchison
If you like a psychological-horror, something where the fear factor is subliminal rather than all out in your face, you might want to give House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski a try. Although, I recommend browsing through the book before you buy, since it doesn't seem to be everybody's cup of tea.

for good vampire series, read the saga of darren shan, it has a story plot which had several twist to it and it really make me complete it in one week. it is a saga of twelve books in which it starts with cirque du freaks, which explain how darren shan became a vampire in order to save his friend. at the last book, it links to the first. it a must read for any vampire fans.
for some good horror, you can try ju-on, the orginal version, not the ones based on the movies. it has certain grip that hold you glued to the book and it is so complete that i am truly amazed by its author. it started with a explanation of how soul would leave our body and also how some souls with regrets will remain on earth. it is a goo horror story.
if you also have any good horror or vampire book that is nice, kindly recommend it to me. i love horror books.

I think I have heard of that series, but never read it. I will check it out. I have seen the ju-on movie, but didn't know there was a book. I bet its much better. And my favorite horror author is richard laymon. His books are great, but can be a bit too graphic for some people.

I just love reading horror books. Stephen King is my favourite author and I also like Dean Koontz. The thing I like about horror books is, they take me places, they allow my imagination to run wild! Horror books, definitely freedom for the mind! I know that it's been around for a long while now but, if you have not read "The Stand" by Stephen King then you somehow try and grab yourself a copy. I also recommend Stephen King's "Desperation", another good horror book. Goodluck with your reading. Andrew
