Do you really want to be friends with everyone?

I get so many friendship requests now. Almost every day I get one and I know that this is the same story for a lot of mylotters. I was just wondering what you do when someone asks to be your friend. Do you automatically accept every person who requests or do you actually pick and choose? Do you check out their profile first before accepting them; looking at the discussions they've started, their pictures, etc? Do you only accept people because you don't want to hurt their feelings? Are you a person who accepts everyone? Or perhaps you deny everyone? Maybe you are somewhere in between?

I accept everyone unless there is something on their profile that is absolutely glaring out at me that is hateful or something.
If you look at my profile and read my tips, you'll see why. There is no real reason NOT to accept a friend request, and lots of reasons to accept every one of them.

I'll bet you didn't even take the time to read what I pointed you to.
There is a valid reason to accept every friend request you get.

I don't have this dilemma because I don't get friend requests? Maybe it's because I haven't been here long, or maybe people just don't like me. : (.

Well that's good that you really think it over when chosing rather than just judging people by first impressions, but I agree with you on not really wanting everyone to be your friend. Thanx for responding and keep on mylotting. :)

Dear friend,
I do accepted all the friends request and after this I do also just check their profile. Till now I have not rejected any friendship request on mylot. At times I would also just go through those friends discussions and may be if I have any to contribute I would do that too.

I always check out their profile and read some of their responses, check their age also etc before deciding to accept. If not, I decline. I'm always getting requests to add someone. Many times its some youngster from Pakistan or such and I just don't see any reason to add them. I'm a middle aged grandmother of two. I seriously doubt I have anything in common with an 19 year old male from India or Asia. Those I typically decline. And occasionally I goof and add someone and go thru my friends later and remove them. To be prefectly honest I don't see the point in "friends" here anyway. I mean its not like I get messages from anyone, and its not like we chat and get to know each other. This whole process here is nothing like a typical chat process like Yahoo etc., so I don't know what the point of friends here is anyway.

Well u can send friends private messages but that's about it. I totally get what u r saying. When I first started here on mylot I didn't really c a point either, but now I am trying to get into it and see what I can gain from the whole friendship thing. I disagree however on the age thing. I think ud be surprised at how much u have in common with some of these "youngsters". I have friends (in real life) of all ages and though we have different things going on in our life and different experiences, we really connect on an emotional sort of level, really heart-to-heart. That's just in my experience though and I can understand that perhaps it is not really for everyone. Anyway thanks for responding. I think u really contributed to the discussion. have a good one. :)

i dont think there is any harm in adding them as a friend here and so i just approve. if i am not aware of any harm caused do please inform me so that i can keep it in my mind before approving them as a friend.

Yeah. That is what's happening to me. No, I dont think that there is any harm, but I do think that you can take people off ur friend list.

I would say that if someone is requesting to be your friend then you should just accept. If I receive any friend requests I always accept. The thing is,you just don't know who's going to become a very good freind over time. Will you ever get close to the majority of your friends? Probably not but I think it would be a little impolite to refuse a friendship request. Andrew

I accept everyone as long as i didnt see anything bad about their profile...I am also picky in choosing who are those people who i wanna add to my list of friends. But most of the time i prefer friends that are girls. I just dont like my hubby to wonder why most of the people who is on my list are guys...Sometimes i deny some request too specially if i am not comfortable having the person on my list of friends.

I usually ignore my friend requests. They are a pain to go through and decide who is really worth keeping as a friend.

I am the person who accepts all friend requests that is sent to me. I never deny any requests.
I don't even look at the profile first. Suppose when you look at the profile and you see only few or no activity and you deny the request. And then the member began to be very active. You have given a great opportunity of having that friend.
Have a nice day!

Being friendly is a very good attitude but then you should have to select your friends. I only add friends when I really know who they are or what they are. Nowadays trusting a person is a big deal. It is only seldom wherein you can find real friends. I think you don't hurt them when you deny their requests because you do not know who they are. How will you know if they are just collecting friends. That is unfair.

Yeah. A lot of people have hundreds of friends and probably don't really care to get to know u anyways. I think people do collect friends though I have never really thought of it like that before.

oh that sucks. Yeah I'm kinda slim on friends myself. I used to have a grip load, but I realized that most of them werent real friends, but just users and backstabbers, so I dumped them. It is better to have a few good freinds than a bunch of fake ones. Well good luck and good day!
