Our lights are out cuz water seeped in from the storm.. Damn. I'm a reader and sometimes reading is like breathing to me. So I had to find out a way. I used candles instead! So I found it awesome and ~uhhhh~ ancient. But I felt like being part of a movie of some sort~ In a world where Thomas Edison wasn't born. People still had to use candles.
Well anyway. Have you tried it already??? :)

I have never tried reading by candle light! I would think that over time this would be bad for your eyes. I can understand where you're coming from though in relation to ancient times! There's something very inspirational about reading a book under candle-light! I have seen movies about the medieval period particularly one film in particular "Name of the Rose". This was about Benedictine Monks and how they were going through their famous library and they only had fire torches! It was quite eery when you think about it. I think I would choose electricity all the time and only resort to candle light if there was an emergency!! Andrew

Sure, no problem. I just love candle light all the same! It's beautiful and you can recite a prayer or two in front of one! Andrew

I have tried it and I must admit, it does feel like you are in another era. Living in South Florida, I've survived several hurricanes and one of the first things to go is the power. It gets kinda boring after a while, so I usually take my book to the park to read in the day, and when it got pitch dark at night, candlelight was the way to go. It's hard to imagine that it was standard back in those days! Happy reading!

Good day... I did when I was younger and it suck. I mean it's hard to read by a candle light specially for an exam. I fervently wished that the younger generation would not suffer from that kind of a scene.

Yes, I tried it once when we had a storm there and there was no electricity for about an hour. I have to admit it was very uncomfortable. The light was quivering all the time, and I was very happy when we got electricity back!

A few years ago (it was supposed to be a memorable summer but I can't for the life of me remember what year it was... 2005?) when the power went out all over Southern Ontario and North-East U.S. for more than 24 hours in some places, we lit up a bunch of candles and put them all together on the coffee table in the living room. They gave off so much light a neighbour came to the door to see why we had power. Anyway, I read by candelight then. And I would do it again. It is kind of nice. When I go to bed and my husband is already sleeping I will light a candle and use a booklight if I want to read before I sleep. The booklight isn't always enough and I have a candle holder that has a mirror behind it so it lights up good.
I like to read whenever I can and when the power goes out, reading seems to be the only thing I CAN do... unless the kids are driving us crazy and we decide to play games with them (my kids are 12 and 15 btw, not little ones).

Lol. Yeah.. I've tried reading by candle light... I've even tried reading under a post light. Haha... and the experience was not very pleasant. Aside from getting a major headache, I felt very "old" so to speak. Hmmm... But it was an unforgettable experience as well. Makes you become more thankful of the things that you have.

Totally. Yeah, your right. But I guess you live in the lowlands where its hot ryt? I live in Baguio and its pretty "cool" to read by the candle light in a cold climate. I feel like a classical era dude. :)

yes i have experienced it in my schooling time as there was a power cut in our area and you can find this frequently and its really horrible if it happens during our test and exams as it use to become difficult to study and we cant wait for power to come back and hence we need to study in a candle light and prepare for our exams. this is a frequent complaint in india and it really makes difficult for students.
and also when there is summer it becomes even more difficult as the weather will be so hot and without fans its so hard to survive.
really powercut is really so horrible.

We used to be poor, so yeah lol.
I've kinda...got an aversion to fire nowadays, so when given the choice between candles and the moon, I usually pick to read by moonlight.
Though my eyes have fallen out of practices since being in the city, I generally have pretty good eyesight in the dark. When I go camping, I usually read by moonlight so as not to waste my flashlight batteries.

I know this sounds really great but i tried it under similar circumstances and it was very uncomfortable. Not only was my sight very limited but i was so scared my book would catch fire becasue it was so close to the flame. FYI John Milton went blind after reading and writting books by candle light.

hmmm, no, I haven't tried it and I don't think I'll try it in the future. Because I don't think it will be good for me, having a poor eyesight, it might turns out that I can't read it and eventually my eyes will hurt. But yeah, it was quite interesting, really will remember the ancient times. Quite wondering though on how they are seem comfortable doing it and seem haven't got an eye problems.

I think its unfair for your government to do that. Especially considering many people will still use electricity at night. Is it all over india?

hi robsandoval. i have studied in candle light for my exams. for my board exams i suffered from power failure and i studied using candle light. in olden days that was the only means to study. but we should be thankful that we have electricity now. If we have to study for hours together in the candle light it is a bit difficult. thanks for sharing. happy mylotting.

Yes, I had such a experience. One day after school when I am doing my home assignment, but all of sudden, all lights are out. In order to deliver my assignment on time, I had to read and write under the candle. Too convenient and i guess it will do no good to our eyes as well. Thanks Thomas Edison!
