I wish we COULD get the politicos to quit calling - I HATE them all - seems they wrote themselves a neat escape clause - I scream at them and hang up, but that's not the story Elic is talking about - see below

The latest fad in telemarketing is phone calls from computerized telemarketers - they call with a recorded message: "We're calling to help you consolidate your loans" - sorry, nothing to consolidate. "We're calling to help you refinance your home mortgage" - again, sorry, no home mortgage. "We're calling to hook you up with satellite tv" - no, thanks, I already have cable included in the "rental package".
The annoying computerized telemarketing calls are especially the ones where they pretend to have a person on the other end of the line, as if you couldn't tell that it is a computerized recording. "Hi, this is Jill..." No you're not. You are a computerized recording of Jill - if Jill, or Mike, or Bob is really even your name.
Perhaps the annoying thing about telemarketers - ultimately realized and "personified" by the computerized calls - is the guerilla sales tactic of not allowing the customer to get a word in edge-wise. And when you get the same calls over and over and over and over again... there does come a point where you simply hang up - when you know that the call is not really _for you_ - it's _for_ the person on the other end who is simply trying to make you into their customer.

Always ..first reason is their bad timing...they either call during nap times..i will tell you exactly when when u are just abt to get a good wink of sleep or at times when you are not at home..working...when a customer or your boss is yelling at you ....or when you are in in middle of something ....
for instance ..Yesterday i was having a major fight with my guy over some issues ...no sooner i was about to win the situation ..i got a call from this lady selling credit card...i was so angry neither i hung on her but i also yelled /screamed at her ....it didn't help ...
I think they should be given specific timing to call as per the customers needs.

I haven't hang up on a telemarketer, I simply tell them that I'm not interested. If they do persist, I tell them that they're too annoying and if their product is so good (or works) then they wouldn't have to be like that for the product would just sell itself. Otherwise, then maybe there's something wrong with the product, that's why they're so keen to selling them regardless how they do it.
I've never hang up on anyone, and I hope I'll never have to.

Oh yes I have hung up on telemarketers. They call in the middle of dinner, which is family time. They don't take no for an answer. I have tried to be polite and let them know that I am not interested and they don't listen. They just keep on talking. No,not all of them are this way but a lot of them are. If they would just listen and not keep talikng, maybe not as many of us would hang up on them.Happy day

I frequently hang up on telemarketers. The conversation i normally do before hanging up is as follows
Me-im sorry, im busy at the moment, can i have your home phone number to call you back
Telemarketer- sorry, but i cant give out my home phone number,
Me- is that because you dont want people ringing up and annoying you while you are at home
Telemarketer- yes,
Me- now you know how i feel.(hang up)

so far, i haven't do that as i didn't have the heart to do that to anybody yet... when i didn't want to entertain the telemarketer, then i will tell the person honestly... and if the person is that persistent, then i will hang up... but so far, the telemarketer that i tell always understand my message and i don't have to hang up on them... take care and have a nice day...

Yes, more times than I want to. Telemarketers get really annoying after a long while.

Ya many times. But i would say its not a decent thing to do. They are also people like us calling for a living. So we should listen to what they are saying even if we dont want to accept their offer. But sometimes we are not in good mood or too much busy then we really dont care about courtesies.

I've been rude to telemarketers sometimes when they're just too tenacious and I'm too busy to share my time. But I've never been rude to the point of just hanging up on them. I say goodbye like I would to any other person. There were times in the past when I've had to call people and network for events, school projects and stuff like that. So even if I'm not a professional telemarketer I know what it feels like to be on the other end of the the line.

I have hung up on telemarketers, when I tell them no and they just keep on insisting and won't take no for an answerer I will tell them I am sorry I am busy and hang up. If it is a number I don't no I don't answer now I just let my voice mail pick it up and most of the time if it is a telemarketer they will not leave a message.

I will hang up their phone politely if I am stuck at work or they can not entice me to go on listening their talk. The success telemarketer should trigger the target listeners' interest when they open their mouth for around 1-2 mins. They need think and convince from the targets' perspective rather than simply introduce and persuade in plain words. It is pretty tough cos the only tool that telemarketer can rely on is their language. No gesture or live presentation. So it is advisable for telemarket to ponder how to make a good starting sentence and think on others' stand.

I hang up on them quite often. I just hate being bothered at home, from someone trying to sell me something I don't want. If I wanted to buy something, I would go out and buy it. Most of the time I will nicely say no thank you, and then if they keep going I hang up.

I have hanged up on some telemarketers once or twice. Well, I know it's a bit not polite to that person, but I do have my reasons. Above all, I like to buy things in stores( sometimes online), cuz I can see the quality and physical forms of the products with my eyes, that makes feel assured actually. Secondly, telemarters' long calls can be really annoying when I'm busy with my work, I'm sure nobody at work like to be disturbed unless they r not hardworking.

I hate being rude to people...even strangers, so I try to be polite and say I'm not interested. Most of the time, like other people have said, the telemarketer barely lets you get a word in edgewise. I realize they've got a job to do and, honestly, if I had to be a telemarketer for a living, I don't know if I'd be able to do it, but I feel justified in hanging up if they don't take a polite "no thanks" for an answer.
