Here in our country we know there is a lot of street children roaming around asking for money or food, have you considered giving some to them? I had an experience where this poor kids would knock on our door and ask for food, I usually give some to them when we have left overs but when we don't have they have the tendency to ask and ask even though I already told them that we have no leftovers. My husband got really pissed off because they are like expecting from you. How about you? Have you give alms lately?

Yes, I give money and sometimes food. I usually give alms to old ones, i don't know but i pity them more than younger ones. There are really some occasions that these street children would be persistent and they would really follow you. This always happen when I go home from school. Sometimes when I am eating, they would really follow and beg you to give them what you're eating. I cannot resist them so i give my food. Lately, someone told me that giving alms is a crime and you could be imprisoned. But still i give alms but not too much.

I have given alms to children in the form of money, food and even clothes. But it's not to all children who come begging or asking. It's usually the one's who have some form of disability or those i genuinely feel need some help.

Whenever I meet a child or an elderly asking for alms in the street, I would give a little amount of money, a little help from the their necessities. I am always moved with compassion at the sight of them. I always remind myself that I am fortunate than they are and I need to share what I have, little or more.

I used too. But then i realized if they are not doing anything at all and just asking money i don't give anything... I do not want to tolerate streetkids asking for alms so i do not give them any. if they sell sampaguita or something i might consider but if they are just asking for money i don't give them any. Unless they sing carols or anything... at least just to give something in exchange of what they offered. =)

it is better to give food than money, because at least when you give them food, you are sure that they will eat it unlike when you give them money, you don't know if they would just buy some toxic addictive substances or give it to their bosses

I sometimes give alms to street children. I would give food or coins to children who does not beg. I am quite charitable. I like sharing to others something that I have in surplus. The thing that I hate most is when these street children always come back when you give them something. That is why I only give to children who does not beg.

You said it! We use to give a lot to these street children before but when we noticed that they have the tendency to go overboard. We stopped giving them any coins at oil. Besides, it is also teaching them to stay on the road even more because they are earning. If they will not receive anything they will stop begging and will do something more decent than begging. Actually, there are cases that these street children are being used by syndicate so better not give at all.

“Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime. Teach a man to sell fish and he eats steak.”—Author unknown the phrase says it all

No, because sometimes, I find it rude that they go near, you you're eating your meal and you are in the middle of it enjoying your meal, then ask for coins then if you say no, they ask for your food and if you say no, then they'll stand there staring at you, making you look and feel bad because it seems that you are too greedy. Honestly I get annoyed by these kids because at that age, they should be taught proper manners and respect, not to go out there in the streets to beg.

it happens most of the time and then you have no choice but give them a little and then when you hand over something, their companions would swarm you up and say give them too because you gave something to their companions. it never ends

Sometimes, i gave alms to the street children but someties not..Because i see that the street children become dependent to other people and expecting people to give them. One time i counter that, i buy a soft drink and while i'm drinking it, one street child hold my soft drink and he's asking to give it to him..At first i feel bad because of the way he ask for it, but i beg for his situation... I want to blame the parents of that children who's asking for food and money...Because i see they used their child to have food and money. why they don't find a better job to support all the needs of their child. Last week also i saw a family in a mall...although beggars are not allowed in the mall they're dress is quite neat than other beggars. They are in the food court and asking for the left overs... i see to the eyes of the child that they really expecting that they will get lots of food there...

oh that was unlikely, to see beggars in the mall. Those are one of the things that slaps us how poor our economy is. Sometimes I don't know if it is the parents or it's just there are no opportunities for them to earn money.

Yes i do give them some money when i see this kind of children i felt really pity to them and angry with there parents. I dont like watching children in the street i felt terrible inside. I have a lots of ambition and one of it is to help children who had no parents and living only in the street.

I gave food to street kids. I just cant eat at all seeing them out there hungry and im sitting on a restaurant comfortably eating my meals. I dont give them money though. I just hope DSWD or any private institution will provide a place for this kids to stay. I see a lot of them on the street and i feel sorry for this kids coz i know they will grow up in an environment that will influence them to do crimes when they get older.

Before, I used to give alms..whether it is a children or an old man or woman..but then this thought came that instead of doing so (giving alms) why not gave them food..there's this story which my boyfriend and I have encountered..when we happened to passed by an old woman (it's christmas season that time so expect the shivers in our spine), this old woman had been in the street for almost hours in the day..and then because we felt a pinch in our hearts..we dropped then to the nearest convenience store and bought food and water and we walked back to the place where we saw the woman. After we saw her, we approached her and give what we had bought, to her surprise..she just utter words in which we cannot simply understand, though, because of an enlightment in her eyes and you can see as she gave us that little warm smile, we knew it is a thanksgiving and she really appreciates what we have done..

Yes we do, actually, we prefer to give foods than money to those street children and elder, kinda think that it was more safe and we know that they really use it for good unlike money. Anyway, we give extra food that we got whenever they knock on our house, but kinda sometimes though, we feel confused and amused as well, because they didn't ask or knock to all houses, they quite choose only few to ask for alms and our house happen to be one of the houses they always go. Like there are times that they specifically go to our house and skip the other houses that were next to us. At first, we didn't think that, but we noticed that when they always go to us and ask for money or food and never heard or saw them knock on the other houses.

Oh yes they know the houses that would give them food, like when we used to give extra food to this kids who knocks on our door everyday, there comes a time when I have no extra food and my hubby got irritated with them being so persistent and all, after that they never come again.

I dont give alms to street children or old ones. My parents thought me not to give money to them because they might used it to buy nonsense things like rugby rather than buying foods... And they have parents that should support them not used them for business. I pity them but some of them are abusive.

Oh gross, I don't! In fact I don't want to be near with any of them. Their voice is like ringing to my ears and they are so dirty. I know I am bad but I really can't stand them. I don't want seeing dirty kids, I can manage dirty beggars, but kids? children? they have parents and their parents should take care of them. Some people thinks it is OK to give to this beggars but in truth you are just making it worse. yuou know the saying, give a man a fish blah blah, I kinda believe on that.

good one on that, but as you know sometimes their parents are the one who ask them to ask for food or money on the streets
