While on vacation, I didn't sleep alone!

My son's little pug - Brit sleeping on the couch at the cabin!

Just returned from vacation with my son and his family which included their little pug. For some reason she decided to sleep every night with me. While they lived in an apartment I kept her for about four months. They weren't sure they wanted to bring her as they charge an arm and a leg to have a pet with but decided that since she is part of their family she had to come along. She was sooooo good! Do you take your pets on vacation with you?

When I had a pet no I didn't. As my Mom and Dad would of had a fit. Had my sister take care of my dog when I had one. Now that it is only my Mom I no longer have a dog. But no she don't like them inside. So no I wouldn't out of respect for her. My cousins how ever don't care. Which I think is wrong if you don't have a pet in your home you shouldn't have put up with one. As they don't pick up after there dog.

Yuck! They really should pick up after their dog! You are sweet not to have one because you respect your mom's wishes!

Well when my family goes for a vacation we rarely bring our pets because most place where I come from don't allow big pets on their premises. So when that is the case I always stay at home to take care of our pets even if the vacation lasts for only a day. I only take vacations when I know someone other than me will stay at home to take care of our pets.

Yes they are well taken care of, and even though they are not trained they are surprisingly well behaved. It breaks my heart that every time I leave the house they howl sadly like they are going to miss me. I guess we have bonded well through the years.

Um, this discussion really caught my eye. Thought to myself you really must have had a good vacation...lol Awww, the little pug wanted to sleep with her grandma. How sweet. We don't take our pets on vacation. We could take the dog since he is small and is a great pet but we fly to Arizona to visit our daughter so we leave him with one of our other kids. Our daughter has a dog and bringing another one along with us would be too much trouble. We stay with them, their house is small and they have two small children. The dog is safer here..lol

When you said you wanted to catch a big one did you mean a big fisherman or a big fish?

I didn't take Reggie with me either...because I usually go so far away. But I am glad we did have Brit with. She was very good! And well.....there were two fishermen that showed up the day before we left.....I did have hopes of catching a big one!

Yes, I take them as much as I can. I do have 4 now and that makes it harder. I use to have just 2 and that was much easier. The hotels charge a pet fee, I don't know why. When the "pets" are house trained or they wouldn't be in the house. They do no damage and just sleep and walk out doors when taken out. I have to pay for each pet. Just one fee should be suffient.

I think you are right as the fee is hefty!

Hi Jill, Nice to know how close your pug remained to you during vacation!.. It is really good to take your pet along rather than leave him behind with caretakers and worry about his well being all through your vacation, isnt it? Here is a brand new site that has lovely articles on a wide range of doggy topics. Im sure you will like this write up... Go on and read Part II of the same and also have a look at the site and its great design. have a great day! http://gooddogfood.org/dog-care/dog-care-tips/travelling-with-your-pet-i/

No,the fish don't go on vacation with us. This would be quite stressful for them. It sounds like you had a great trip.

Aww, you got a sleeping partner? If she is like my Sherlock then you never needed a blanket. For a little guy my dog is one big ball of heat! I'm glad she got to be with you again since she probably remembers you. I have never taken my dog on vacation with me. Vacation usually means a motel or hotel, and I don't want to stay in a place that keeps pets. I mean it's a nice theory, but can you imagine how dirty that place is under the superficial cleaning? On the rare occasion I vacation, my dog stays with a friend who also has a dog. He enjoys being with Otto, his buddy.

Hi Jill. I don't have any pets anymore as I just don't want to have to clean up after them. Isn't that lazy of me? I haven't had a pet, other than a fish in an aquarium, for over 20 years. Strangely, I really like cats and dogs, I just don't want to take care of them. Your son's dog sounds friendly and very loved. Plus, she sounds like an incredibly well-behaved dog, which is saying something when you are on vacation in a strange place.

That's not lazy. I think you get past wanting to have one. When I had to put down my dog that was it.....no more! I travel alot and it really gets to be a hassle. I love animals too...but I am with you. I really have too much on my plate already without taking a pet on.

Hi Jill, I haven't in the past but I certainly will in the future with our latest edition Ziggy the pup, I will book holidays at camps which allow dogs in the UK and there are many so shouldn't be a problem and my neighbour will look after if I go abroad to visit my mum, they are one of the family so I guess they deserve a holiday too. When I first read the title I was shocked, I thought you may have had a holiday fling, naughty girl LOL. Glad you had company to sleep with though. Ellie :D

I had never take a pet on my vacation. I think i have lots of things that i need to watch over such as my luggage and important stuff that taking a pet with me would be a hassle. I love to spend my vacation without any worries at all that i need to feed a pet and take care of it while i am actually on a vacation. I love pets though...but during times when i can enjoy time to relax and be with my hubby. I see to it that i dont bring a pet with us to take care of

That's so cool... it's very troublesome and hard to bring my pets with me on a vacation... I have a golden retriever at home, and from where I live, there is no good nearby vacation location... We can only travel to a far place for a proper vacation!

I have found that here where I live (Canada) when getting a room most places won't take a pet period, but the few that did were always good with us. The most we ever paid extra was 10.00 which I didn't mind. As usual the bad ones spoil it for the responsible dog owner. We go no where without our Maltese, which is why we have a holiday trailer.

Our dog goes everywhere we go. When I went to spend a couple of weeks with my daugther he had to go with me because my husband and son have gotten him to where he will not stay home alone. While gone the dog slept with my grandson each night and they both loved it. He is an Italian Greyhound so he is on the small side, about 12 pounds.

I have never taken a pet on vacation with me. I have not been on vacation in a long time anyway. When I go out of town for a few days I always have someone go over and let the dogs out a few times a day and feed them all.

I have not gone on a vacation since we got our dog last year but we almost always take her wherever we go. She's been to San Francisco with us and spent the night at my brother's. She always goes with us when we go to San Francisco. She knows the drill, whenever she sees us going down the stairs and dressed to go out, she immediately goes into her crate. She's small though so we don't have the size problem, we can always take her with us.
