English is my mother tongue language and I have traveled else where to countries that speak it too. I have spent more than a year in Australia, a couple of months in New Zealand and three lots of a couple of weeks in the USA.
I learned French at school and have found that useful in France, the French speaking part of Belgium and French Polynesia. I am currently learning Spanish and that would have been helpful to me in Spain, Mexico and Guatemala.
Here is a round the world route for someone that speaks English:
UK-South Africa-Singapore-Australia-New Zealand-USA-Canada-UK.
Is your mother tongue language spoken in other countries?
How have you got on talking when you have been traveling?

I am fortunate too my friend as I only speak English and most of the countries I have visited speak English too! I wish I could speak another language but I just don't have the skills to do it, I have very basic French but not enough to get by on sadly. But with your Spanish course you are doing, will come in very useful indeed, I know you will succeed and be fluent which will help you so much when travelling to all those exotic places you love to go to as Spanish is a very popular language too.

Yes, English is spoken in most countries. In Hungary in 1990 and in Bulgaria in 2006 I had some language difficulties. I wish that English children started learning French at 4 years old, German, Italian or Spanish at 11 years old and think how fluent they would be by 18 years old. My Spanish course will be perfect for a trip to Costa Rica. Happy traveling to Sweden next year and New Zealand in a few years time my friend Wolfie.

Actually my mother tongue language doesn't help me, because i can't find a place somewhere around the world talk same as mine. English is my secondary language,it really teach us at school, so i develop and learned hard to speak english which i know is the international language so whenever i go i can communicate people and understand them as well. And when i do to non english speaking country maybe i also learn to speak that language too. happy posting! cheers!

Your English is excellent so you will be able to use it to travel to lots of different countries. I always try to learn how to say thank you in the language in the country that I am traveling in. I found the language fine in Romania but challenging in Bulgaria. I wish you a happy time on wonderful My Lot.

There are thousands and thousands of languages spoken all over the world and our life time is not sufficient to learn atleast a half a dozen of them. But the more languages we learn the more comfortable we will be particularly when we are travelling. My mother tongue is Telugu and it is spoken in the southern part of India. But I love speaking and writing English too.

I think that it goes without saying that English is the most widely used language in the world because of its special history of U.K. In fact, wherever you travel in a foreign country, I think that perhaps English is usually the language that more people use to communicate with each other. Thank you, friend, for the discussion.

My mother tongue language is chinese and english is my second language. Which in china, there are lots of dialects. When u come from north china, u probably can't understand the dialects of the south china, such as shanghaiese or cantonese. But almost every chinese people can understand mandarin so the communicaiton is ok. English is the second language in china especially for the young ones. They learn english from their primary schools even from kindergartens. So if u come to china, there is no problem for communicating. And chinese people are hospitable and willing to help.
