How much sleep do we need?

When we were in still kids, we were told by our parents to sleep at least eight hours every night. And we did so. We usually slept at least eight hours. But after college, world has been a really new place for me, and work required me not to sleep during the night, (I work in grave yard shift), I have been missing a lot of sleep. I missed the days when I could sleep from evening until lunchtime the following day. But things have changed. I sleep only like, three to four hours a day. Someone told me that not getting enough sleep is very unhealthy. Maybe she was right. but how much sleep do we adults really need to have?

I still believe that we should get at least eight hours of sleep for our body to regenerate and recuperate from the day's work. Having too little sleep is unhealthy because your immune system will go down and you can easily get sick this way. I have been getting 6 hours of sleep on the average for about 10 years now on weekdays and I feel fine. on weekends, I try to catch up though, specially when I'm at home on leave to take care of my baby. As soon as she sleeps, i sleep too. Since you work graveyard, just try to catch as much sleep as you can. it's hard because of the time difference. What my call center friend would do is make their rooms really sleep conducive despite the time in the morning. They made sure the curtains are dark, the room is cold and no loud sounds.

I have always been told that you need at least eight hours of sleep each of every night in order to function properly, but I think the number of hours of sleep required depends on the person for example my brother could go with just a couple of hours of sleep and be active, while in my case I usually need at lease twelve hours of sleep each day or I do not have enough energy to do anything, and I am very cranky and irritable.

8 Hrs sleep is standered hours timing of sleep for every person. But due to some reasons people can't sleep for 8 to 10 hours in a day. Due to my work I Pesonally sleep for 6 to 7 hours a day for my health. For good health one should sleep for atleast 7 hours a day.

You know every sleep hour is good to you if it not less than 4 hours. Well I try already a month to sleep only 4,5 hours, but I did it just a couple of times and what strange is ... I felt GREAT. I felt great because I woke up just by myself and when I'm waking up with help of somebody of something, then the waking up get a lot of energy off my body. And when I sleep about 8 and + hours then I feel really terrible, I have no mood and I want to sleep more ... and that's not healthy. I have readen a article somewhere that we sleep in some sleep cycles what takes about 90minuts each cycle and this each cycle has a couple of stages .. at the begin you half sleep half active - something like that then your sleep going deeper to deep sleep and when you wake up when you in deep sleep it feels terrible and after deep sleep stage you are in REM stage and your brain is more active so when you wake up in this stage you will be feel fine. Of course everybody is different and everybody just need so much sleep so he feels good waking up. And I heard some tapes of Donald Trump if think or some other billionair and he said he sleeps only 4 hours, well and look how succesful is he :) so its important to sleep just so much you need and no minute more.

I need about 9 hours before I'm ready to face the day! I find that's the perfect amount of sleep for me. At the same time though, if I sleep for more than 11 hours per day, I feel like rubbish for the rest of the day (feels like I have a hangover) and I don't feel better until I can sleep some more!

I've read once in an article that we need to sleep at least 7 hours of sleep as an adult. But as an adult 7-8 hours of sleep is not enough. I really feel sick if I didn't sleep a minimum of 10 hours a day. Just recently got literally sick cause of that. I need to finish some project and so I only slept an average of 5 hours a day for 3 days. Result is 5 days with fever. Still weak from that but I'm able to go to school now. I think how much sleep we need varies for each individual. Mine is 10 hours.

It depends on the person as some people require more sleep then others but for the most part at least 6-7 hours a night would be recommended and the best hours are the hours before midnight for us to sleep which would make this difficult for you as you are working the grave yard shift .

Well, here is what I hear a great deal among the masses: "Sleep is over-rated. Who needs it?" Well, I think at some time or another, we all need it, and depending upon how our bodies are as individuals, may depend upon how much sleep we need in a 24 hour period of time. For me, I have to agree that sleep is over-rated because I get very little of it. I probably average about 4-5 hours a day. You see, unfortunately, at this time, I am unemployed and I have to spend many hours awake as I am limited to my job search over the internet. It is hard to drive from place-to-place because I have to save on gas for possible interviews. Anyway, here is a typical day for me: Doing my best work at night into the early part of the morning, I stay up until 3am-4am, then go to sleep. I wake up between 7am and 8am depending upon the day of the week and how much I accomplished the day and night before. I make the coffee, shower and feed the cats and the bird. I then get dressed and hit the desktop to read some emails and see what kind of jobs are out there. Then, I head for the local diner for more coffee and a light bite to eat. I am working on my laptop (as I am doing now), until sometime around 4pm and then head home. Again, this depends on what day it is. Today, I will probably leave the diner around 12:30 pm and head to the local mall to have lunch with the wife. Then I might return to the diner as she spends some afternoons with her mom. At 4pm, I go home, catch up on the day's news from FOX 37 and then take about a 3 hour snooze. This gives me about 6 hours a day. I say that I get about 4-5 hours because there are times that I wake up to the kids playing outside or some news that I missed. My mother's doctor says that you should get 8 hours a day. It does not matter whether you get it all at once. It can be scattered throughout the 24 hour period of a day.

I strongly believe sleep is one of the most essential part and must do activity to rejunevate ourselves in various phases of life. I like to sleep to make my body and mind fresh after a hectic schedule in the day and catch a nap whenever possible as I hardly get time to do so being a mother of two kids aged 6 and 3.

No matter how much of sleep our body requires, when we travel through our life with education and employment we lose the time to sleep. It is unavoidable. We need at least 6 hours of sleep. Only thing we can do is to try our best to mange our work and leave 6 hours to sleep. If not possible you have to sleep well in the little time you get.

The fact is that we need 8 hrs of sleep, but the researchers had said that when the less sleep you got the more cleaver you will get. So it means that when our brains is in motion and sleep less, our brain will continue to work and be trained to remembers. And if we sleeps like a bit longer we will be considered as not active in the brain.

the more the better, haha. sleep is a happy thing in my life, i know it waste of time, but when you sleep, all the boring things are gone, and don't need to think.successful people said don't sleep too long because i will always sleep when i die. that's why they got success. i have heard 7-8 hours per day is the best time, don't sleep too long, it will make you headache

Now that you're an adult, is not enough reason to neglect the sleeping routine you are following when you're still young. In my opinion, since adults are prone to late-night jobs and sometimes exhausting tasks, they're the ones who needs more rest compared to kids. It's true that every individual should have a minimum of 8 hours in sleeping. It's a fact and a very important tip in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

i think one should sleep for atleast 6 hours daily & that should also be at proper timings and should sleep continously for 6 hours............not in breaks to remain fit..........
