Would you reply to a topic that was the same to one you've replied to before?

There are a lot of very similar topics here on MyLot. What with the hundreds of thousands of posters, you really cannot help but find topics that are similar... Sometimes the questions are exactly the same but are just worded differently. I sometimes reply to similar discussions... Some of you might be wondering why. Well, since we're talking about two different users, the second user may not have probably seen the answers to simlar previous topics or may not have seen any topics at all. I do try to give a different point-of-view though so that each discussion has a unique post from me but which still has my own "personality" intact. Now, I'm just wondering, do you still post a reply on someone else's discussion even if it's a discussion you've already posted on on someone else's page? If you do reply to similar topics, do you discuss the same thing on each one? Or do you share different experiences? I'd love to hear your insight on this. Happy MyLotting!

Yes, i will reply. But i have a suggestion for those who start a discussion which is similar to the topic talked before. u can first use search bar on the top of the website to find out if there is a similar topic talked before. Maybe u can find ur answer in these discussions and need not to post a new one.

Personally, I would reply to such a topic because both parties (the one who started the "repeat" discussion and the one who replies) will benefit from it. The person who started the discussion might not be aware that the topic has been started before, and who knows that the discussion might be on an issue or a question that the discussion starter really want to get an insight on. So, as the responder to this discussion, you will not only be able to help another person clarify their doubts or just contribute to widen their horizon on the topic, but you will also be earning from mylot at the same time! In fact, I remember there was once I responded to this discussion about how to quit smoking, and there was another time when somebody asked the same question. I just replied to the new discussion, quoting my previous answer, and I earned from that! Yeah, so you can see, I'm not only helping the other party, but I'm helping myself to earn as well! So all in all, we shouldn't be choosy when replying to discussions - just take all and answer them!

Haha.. You have a point there gerald... Well, glad to know that you try to help others out as well. I'm pretty sure they appreciated your points-of-view. But did you really make the exact same reply? Just curious.

Yup, I guess those people whom I replied to found it useful because they even gave me best response.... Anyway, for these "repeat" discussions, I remember starting out trying to type out the same information but using different words. I found that it was too time consuming and it took a lot of effort as well, thinking how to "paraphrase" my own previous reply. So, in the "smoking" scenario, I became a little "desperate" and just copied and paste my own reply, quoting my own answer and providing the link where I copied my own answer from....lol....it hasn't been deleted so it's sort of legal I guess...haha....besides, I wouldn't sue myself for plagiarism, would I?

well, i don't want but i have to. otherwise i will respond nothing on mylot . yes i finds huge number of similar discussions here. many of them are mine . in my case, it's usually because i don't know if the discussion was being started before, as i always forget to search it first. sometimes even topics which i think are genuinely mine and nobody could have been started them appear in the similar discussions section, right under my newly started discussion. regarding the similar discussions i respond to, i usually try my best to respond differently, using different substances and words.

Hehe... Those things happen. Besides, it's a normal thing. As long as you don't copy someone else's then there's no problem making similar posts. At least you try to change the thought of your post even if it's under the same discussion.

I do, since the person who posted it has no way of knowing the question has already been asked. But I will try to add something or delete something and somehow make my answer more original, instead of just saying the same thing over again.

Yep. A lot of people ask because they do not know that others have posted the same question. I also try to put in my own opinion although the answer may be the same.

; I feel and I think if there is an other discussion on the topic I have already replied I will read and if some thing new I mean new contents are there I will always respond that discussion because the comment I will receive would give birth to one new discussion or I will be able to extract some new topic for a discussion.

honestly speaking i would not reply to the similar topics which i have replied before. if something interesting is going on there then i will think i should reply or not. otherwise i think its waste of my time to write similar answer in to similar question. but i have some extra and some interesting point that i have not written in previous answer than i will surely like to reply and will try to discuss more on that topic.

yeah that's what i am saying if topic is similar it doesn't matter but if i have different answer or experience then definitely i will post. but if i don't have any than why to waste my time discussing similar topics. i think it would be very frustrating. ya that might me the case that if i forget to mention some important thing in previous discussion i would love to post again.

Its not bad if you give a different answer to the other times. Then you're making a different contribution altogether. There are bound to be similiarities here. Just give different answers.

True... but there are times you talk about the same experience right especially if it's the same exact topic?.

I do as long as I have something to say. But if I feel it is clearly a copy paste discussion, I would not reply anymore because I am thinking that discussion would be deleted if myLot admin would find out about it. And I don't want my response to be deleted too. Have a nice day!

Answering same question - man on the phone answering a question
I did. Oftimes, I saw cases asked by different person at a different time, usually a newbie, who ask for an information. I would answer it over and over and I think answering it would help them. Most of the time, I am reiterating my previous post with different words, but with almost the same thought. Most of the questions I have answered repeatedly are: what are stars for, what do you think of mylot, how do you feel and similar questions.

I would reply too. Though the topic may be similar for sure the discussion will be different. Different sets of people will be involved so it would mean new ideas, new insights. :D

Ya I will reply. The same reason as you. Lol. Sometimes the same user will start the same topic but in different interests. In that case I will not reply. Otherwise it doesn't matter to me for replying. I would be very happy to answer the doubts in mylot. Hehe. I don't know why. So definitely I have to answer the repeated questions. Lol. Happy mylotting. Have fun.

hi friend I try to reply to the topic even though i have replied to the same topic before. If i like that topic i will reply to any number of members without any hesitation. I will try to give some different opinions from the previous one,so that if a person who had already seen my opinion in the past may not get bored off with the different answer i'm going to give.

I think you must be a patient person repeatedly replying to the same question! If I see a question that's almost exactly the same as one I've already answered I avoid it 1) as it might be the same question I've already answered!, 2) I don't want to have to write a different point of view to make my answers different. I like to write what my point of view really is, not create pretend ones, and 3) I like the variety of discussions on myLot. I'd get bored answering lots of discussions that are very similar!
