I try to always carry a small digital camera. I find the camera phones to be poorer quality and you are limited int eh size of the picture you can print.

My phone's camera has a 5.1 Mp sensor, shake reduction, flash and 7x zoom. I use it frequently, but there is no way it is a rival for a "real" digital camera. The problem is in the size of the sensor which is just about 1/12 the area of the sensor in a typical compact camera. Noise is comparatively high because the pixel sites are so small and densely packed. Furthermore, the lens cannot compare - even the German made all-glass lens in my LG is no match for my cheapest digital camera when it comes to resolving power. Another problem with the tiny sensor is the impact of its crop factor on depth of field: it's OK if you always want virtually everything to be in focus, but that makes for pretty dull pictures. All up: fine if you don't have a real camera with you, but not close to being a replacement yet.
