Do you swim with your eyes open or closed or do you use goggles?

I try not to do too much swimming at all. haha. I have gone scuba diving a few times years ago though and the eyes are definately open then (With face mask firmly attached!) I don't like the water in my eyes or face that much though as chlorine does burn aqnd saltwater irritates as well. Can you tell I'm not a fan?

Hmmmm I have to think about that! It depends what stroke I am doing. Front crawl I'm sure I close my eyes when my face is in the water, but when I turn my head to the side for a breath, I open them.
Side stroke my eyes are open as well as back stroke.
I have never really thought about it untill now.

well, i try not to close my eyes especially when swimming on the ocean. i am not a good swimmer but i can swim a little. and i wanna try and see how beautiful it is under water so, i keep my eyes open. and few minutes later, i feel the salt water entering my eyes. and haha! it's really irritating! i don't use goggles and so. i always forget to bring one! but nevertheless, i do enjoy it a lot!

I can swim in both ways. I jsut don't like swimming with my eyes open under water because it really hurts my eyes. It usually turns your eyes red with doing it for a long time underwater.
Goggles is the best equipment if you want to see things underwater as long as you make sure that no water can leak through it.

I know this is an old discussion but that doesn't invalidate the question. :P
I always wear goggles when I swim. I tried going without but it makes the eyes uncomfortable after some time. Besides, I want to SEE where I am going... something I can't do without the goggles. ^^

Hi I'm Toya Well I hate wearing goggles because they hurt my eyes and water always gets through I still haven't found any goggles that work but if I'm going to a pool it's difficult if it's not chlorine free

When I use to go I always opened my eyes..nowadays I would think you would have to have goggles with all the chlorine and other things that are added ..

I always wear goggles when I go swimming in the pool, because the chlorine makes my eyes burn. That way I avoid bumping into people.
If I swim in the ocean I don´t need them. Seems like salty water doesn´t affect me that much. I generally swim with my eyes open.

I swim with my eyes open too, it helps me to take a good view of everything that are directly in my path. With that, I use goggles, because it hurts and irritates my eyes whenever I don't use one.
I love snorkling, so I definitely prefer to swim with my eyes open and using goggles!;)

I prefer my eyes closed. It's too irritating to the eyes. I used to swim with my eyes open when I was little but the chlorine's too bad .

I take my contacts out and open my eyes a bit. Especially if I'm in the pool, I'll just open my eyes when I sense I need to do a turn. Chlorine doesn't really bother my eyes unless I'm in the pool for hours and hours.
Salt water, though, is another matter. I never open my eyes in the ocean because it HURTSSS...owww.....

I don't go swimming anymore. But when I did, I always kept my eyes open in pools, and closed in the ocean. It burned, but I did it anyways.

Sometimes I use goggles... but I mostly swim with my eyes shut. I don't like anything in my eyes and pool water burns.

I usually have my eyes open as I wanted to see the beauty of the underwater world when I go swimming. I used to bring goggles with me especially when am on for long hours swimming coz it does irritate my eyes. the chlorine in the pool of the sea waters are just not so eye friendly. :P

I like to use goggles because otherwise my eyes get irritable, saying this those with my bad memory i often forget to bring them with me when i swim so often end up swimming without them.
If i've not got my goggles i still like to swim with my eyes open, even though they get sore because i like to be able to see where i'm going and how far i have till the end of the lap.
