This photo is one of the leaves from my red maple tree in my front yard. This leaf is the tiniest I have ever seen from this tree. The leaves are normally the size of my palm. Anyhow the leaves here are all turning volors way too early. Are your fall colors starting to show as well?

That is one of the reasons for not living in south Texas, the leaves don't change those beautiful colors. Ours change from green to yellow and or brown. Not a pretty site. My parents are from the northern part of Texas and we have lived up there before also and they have the beautiful fall season usually in Oct./ Nov.

I live in Eastern, Pa., one hour north of Philly in the hills (1.5 hours south of the Poconos). We have a few bushes with some edges of color, but not much. I think that it will come fast, soon, though, as the weather this week, maybe due to the Hurricane, and we getting the affects from it, had changed drastically.
We were swimming in our pool last week and sweating bullets while gardening and landscaping. This week, we even have most of our windows closed. That's the part I hate most, not having the fresh air from open windows. I don't own, nor want air conditioning, so this is something I like.
We have beautiful fall foliage here because we live in the woods. We have oak, poplar, birch, hickory, elm, maple, crababble, dogwood, sasafras, cyprus, to name a few. It's just a plethora of color, usually in mid-October.

I haven't seen any fall foilage around here yet. I always look forward to that time of year. I imagine your leaves start turning way before ours do though. I just wish the fall colors lasted longer though. That is my favorite time of year.

It is too early here.
Another month usually before they turn colors.
At this pace I'll be raking leaves in a couple weeks time.
Ughhh!

Not here in south/central Ohio, but I don't think it will be long. Temps have been down in the 50s quite a bit, and most days in the 70s, with an occasionally 80 sneaking in.
I love the fall, but I'm not looking forward to what comes right behind it. I'd hoped to be out of this house by now, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen right away.
I want to head back south to NC.

It seems that the trees are turning colors early this year. A lot of the USA has had drought in the last 2 years and the trees are stressed. This is nature's way of conserving energy so that the trees are not permanently damaged.
If you see leaves of a tree turning red early, in late August, the tree is most likely suffering from a fungus or perhaps a ding from a reckless driver.
Why would a tree put its energy toward making new ruddy anthocyanins, just when the leaf is about to fall off?
"People have speculated that maybe it's something that helps leaves deal with stress," Schaberg told LiveScience. "If making the anthocyanins helps the leaf stay on the tree a little longer, it may help the tree absorb some of the good things before it falls off. The tree can use those resources for the next growing season."
By nailing down the correlation between red leaves and environmental stresses, fall foliage may become more than just a pretty sight.

You are right that leaf is incredibly tiny. I've never seen one like that before. Things here are still green. I haven't noticed any change. We still have mosquitos. I wish they would go away. Change in color, for loss of bugs. That would be a nice trade!

Hi Grandpa Bob! I live in NY and they are just barely
starting to change. Only the tinist bit you can see a
little change in color. But what I do see is that they
have already started to fall off the trees without even
so much as changing color, which I do find a little odd.
They seem to have skipped a step! It has just started to
get just a little bit cooler, but the temps are still
hovering between the 70s-80s. At night it does drop quite
a bit cooler to the 50's. The weather has become quite
unpredictable lately so I guess that's why the trees as
confused too! Take care Grandpa Bob!

I haven't spot the color changing in my resident city. I really enjoy the fine autumn weather. Clear sky, crisp air, gentle breeze, and amicable tempature. It is also a great time for a picnic with a crowd of friends, sitting on the grass, eating sandwiches, having a drink, and exchange our views, or even gossip in the office. Now I'm imaginthe vivid scene on the streets, the red maple trees, the fruitful gingko trees, thinge bright flowers blossom in different colors.

I have seen leaves changing already and agree it's way too early - these seasons are getting me all messed up. I have however never seen a red maple leaf that small.

Early? They just started turning here and they're about 2 weeks later than normal. I'm liking the longer summer thing. Last year i came home on the long weekend from being in St. Paul for 2 weeks...and it was all fall colours here...so different coming from really nice and green not brown at all.
The other difference is that there...its green way earlier than here. I was there once in april and the colours that were out were all colours i associate with june here!

Not yet, we've had so much rain this summer, and now we're getting ready to get hit with some more from hurricane Ike, everything is still green and none of the trees leaves are turned yet. We're expected to get 5-7 inches of rain by the time its over.

Hi GRANDPA BOB,
Yes the leaves are changing colours and it seems too early and there are so many leaves on the ground, what a short summer we had its not fair, the littlw maple leave loo so sweet in your palm, you can saved it by putting in in between the pages of a book and maybe put in a plat glass and make it into a keyring.

Yes, we are beginning to get a hint of fall colors here in Georgia. The experts are saying it is because we have had very little rain this year & the dryness is bringing out the fall colors early. In the past, when leaves turned like this, it seems they skipped the beautiful vibrant colors & went green, yellow, brown. I love the beautiful array of fall colors, especially near the mountains!!!
