With the Internet everywhere, do you still go to the library to borrow books?

I am just wondering if I am the only person who still goes to the library to borrow books ? Well, lately I just realized two things, if I go to library I could save money intead of buying books to read. Library books are free and you can borrow as many as can !!! Second, I am not a fan of e-book, it makes my eyes hurts, still prefer hard copies. Do you think im traditional ? Or people still love to go to the library just like high school and college days ?

I love libraries, but I hate to borrow books, only because I hate to have to return them. Being a book addict, I like to purchase books for my personal library. If I'm researching an article, I'll take real books over the internet. I like the environment of the library, but I usually get sidetracked and browse books that are off the subject of what I'm working on. And I almost always find books that I have have in my personal library.

I do not go to the library as often, but I don't think it is because of the internet - we just have a very small library with very limited options available, so it is difficult to find something that I have not already read.

I dont read books anymore because we are not allowed. If you are caught by the Book Police they destroy all reading material that they find .

I still go occasionally. I get a lot of my books from paperbackswap and have a huge pile of books I haven't read yet, but I still find myself going to the library now and then. I use to go all the time when I lived in Maine, but they had an amazing library there. The one here is not so good, so I don't go nearly as often as I use to.
Mostly I go when I need a certain book to fullfill my year challenge thing. Like last year I tried to read a book by an author from A to Z, so some of the more tricky letters I had to go to the library to try to find a book by an author that started with that letter. I never did find anything readable by a Q author. Even a Z author was easier to find! lol

hi sabbatha, you were very interesting ! You really did that ? reading a certain books from a-z ? My gosh, i only read books that interest me, and anything that I could grab from the shelf. So from that A to Z that you have read, anything interesting that you could recommend ? I am running out of books to think of, I am more on fiction books, as I wanted to splurge myself into another world.

That was my problem with Q. I couldn't find anything to grab my attention at all by the very few authors I could find. The good thing about challenges like this though is that it opens you up to new authors. I still only read what intrests me, but it forces me to look a little longer at an area to see if there is anything that will grab my intrest.

I haven't been to the library in ages! I have gone to some used book stores to purchase books. I like doing that so I have to worry about getting them back on a specific due date, and it's not that expensive.

I still go to the library, especially with my daughter. I need to expose her to different types of books to encourage her to have the reading habit in the future. The library may not always have the latest books when I want them though so I still buy some occasionally. But as far as possible, will try to get them from the library. As for my daughter, we can't afford to buy so many books for her. Borrowing them is definitely more economical. E-books has its own merits, I read them if it is pertaining to making money online or stuff like that. Yes, I don't like to read ebooks on the computer. Can't concentrate longer than 10 minutes that way. So you are not the only one!

well, same here I my 2.5 years old always tag along. she loves book, maybe because she always see me reading one. Now, everyweek we borrow a lot of books from the library, and it helps me teach her as well to take good care of her stuff since she knows that this books are borrowed from the library. It's good to know though that a lot of people still love the library !!! Happy mylotting !

Actually, when I was high school and in college, I didn't use the library a lot only because it was more convenient and a lot easier to do research on the net. Of course, if I need to back up my sources and present them for a paper, then I head over to the library and use published books as sources. Now that I've graduated I have never gone back. We don't have a public library here in the Philippines so everything I need I get from the internet. When I was in Toronto, I was able to use their library for a while and it was really complete. If there was a public library like that here in the Philippines I would definitely visit every once in a while. But I still think that researching online and downloading ebooks and movies are faster and more convenient.

hi mimico, too bad we don't have nice library in philippines likes the one here in the US or Canada for you. The only time i remember going to National Library when I was in college doing my thesis ! but that was only once...really doesn't have that much interest during that time. But then library here is very beautiful, environment itself you wanted to curl up in a corner sofa and burry yourself to all the books around. well, just hope that at least we could have one in philippines, but then POWER BOOKS becomes my library during my last visit.

My children go to the library at their school. I don't use the library. I find a lot of material to read on the internet. I also go to the thrift store and pick up books for a quarter.

No, Melanie, you're not the only one who loves the library. I love to look through the biographies and borrow books about people I admire. I'm also a big fan of crime novels and psychological thrillers. I love cookery books (even though I'm not a particularly good cook!)and I am a sucker for self-help books. My library also has a good supply of newspapers, magazines, CDs and DVDs. It would cost me a fortune if I bought everything I read, listened to and watched. It's just not the same on the internet. My husband and I like to cuddle up on the sofa while we each read a book - it's hard to cuddle while holding a laptop each! I love the internet but for me it's more of a work tool and reference library than a relaxing hobby.

Yes, because nothing beats having the book physically in your hands. I like to have a book there in my hands.

As much as I love the internet for anything that I need in the way of information, I still go to the library for books. Though I have found a great book site that is like netflix and I can get books of any genre in the mail, I'm thinking of getting books that way for the winter months. Sometimes the weather is too bad to even think about going out in.

I still go to to the library since the information i can find in internet is a lot of times not true. Since it is writen by someone we don't know and edited by a lot of people, that no one knows. Some guys in my shoool download the info for special works from internet. And then they say something they do not even understand or readed before, and that looks prety hourrible.

Noo me and the missus go weekly to our library,we take out a few books each, she likes a good romance ,the mills and boons type and I like either a good war story or a thriller.Sometimes we get a talking book, not because we cant read lol but its for when we go to bed,we sit and listen to it until we fall asleep, the talking books are really for the blind but they dont mind us borrowing them. Our library has a good selection of jigsaw puzzles too,we have them in the winter months, what we do is we start a jigsaw off ,on the breakfast bar,and we leave it there,it dont do anyone any harm there, and as we walk by if we see a bit we stick it in,the puzzle soon gets done. They have a ggod selection of vidoes and DVDs too and the rental is cheap on them too, much cheaper than the video rental stores.
