How much dirt do you want? Tune in to the Presidential election to get all you want for free.
You can get it free or for low cost at your village or town compost. Or, you can buy big bags of it at a nursery. Or small 1-5 lb. bags at places like Wallmart.
What's the activity?

I don't know how much you need, but most gardening stores do sell bags of dirt..If you need a lot,you might be able to post somewhere locally that you are looking for dirt, some people when they do construction have left over dirt..

I would suppose a nursery, Home Depot, or one of those places might have a bags of soil. You can also try a garden shop. You will have to pay for the dirt. And another suggestion, does not Walmart sell potting soil? Or you could try to get a farmer to sell you some of his dirt and put it on the back of the truck.

Depends on what exactly you are looking for but, a lot of hardware stores have sandbox sand, different kinds of soil. You might try looking there to see if they carry what you want.
