we are on the 21st century and most women do have careers and excel on their chosen field of work. women nowadays are not in a hurry to settle down for they are enjoying life and making most out of it but but there are some who are in a hurry marry which makes me conclude that; there are some women who are still afraid of being a spinster all their life. are you afraid to grow old alone? would you settle for less just to get marry and not to be alone?

I for one I'm married and I have one child. I can't imagine my life without them. I was once very successful in the workfield but I felt empty, as if I needed something else to complete me and now I feel complete.
When you have, had bad relationships you feel better on your own. Honestly i am afraid of growing old on my own. At least you need someone to be bugging you when you are old. I see my parents and now they are reaching their 60's and my mother has cancer, my father is their by her side!!!

i dont think im afraid of growing old alone without a partner. im afraid of growing old without children. i dont think i need someone else to "complete" me. im fine as i am but the companionship and other things that a partner offers are nice. if i dont get married and have a husband, thats fine i still have my friends and family. i think all i really really need in life is to have children.

I agree with that statement that there are lots of women who have successful careers.
Some of them are enjoying their careers until they don't realize they are already over marriageable age. It's not nice to become old and still single? as a person gets older she/he needs company. Like when they are sick? who will take care of them? Younger people seldom get sick but older ones usually does. This is the reason why, it is not good to remain single all your life. I have a friend who is single at the age of 53 and nobody takes care of her when she got sick. She pay somebody to take care of her. Her pension is not enough for the medicine, food and for her care raker's salary. She became disabled at present.

yes she has siblings and nephews, nieces but none of them take care of her. She even sponsored some of her nephews and nieces but when they are done with their studies they finally left her because they got married and have their own families too. I'm not sure this time if her siblings supported her financially. But i would say, she is helpless. She doesn't have a house of her own. She was just helped by a Christian organization and let her stay in the kitchen area of the c husband and children who would take care of her.

Honestly speaking i am afraid to grow old alone. I am seperated, it has been 15 years now, i have 3 girls. My eldest has gotten married recently and is in another country. My second dreams of working abroad too, my youngest dreams of becoming a successful journalist. Even at their age now, the 2 left with me love to have their own life now. That's what scares me, i can not have them always by my side. I have experienced many times in the past that they have a life and world of their own. So, whether i like it or not, i will have to prepare myself growing old alone. It will be so nice having someone or a partner you could watch the sunset with, while drinking a cup of coffee. Someone to look after you when you are sick, or enjoy an old movie on a weekend, wouldn't it be nice? Don't you think?

i understand where you are coming from but i guess your girls will surely take care of you once you get old so after all there is really nothing to worry. they may seem to look for a life of their own but they will always be there for you. thanks for the post and have a great day!!!

As we grow a little older we think about things more and tend to philosophize and that would be me. My way of thinking has changed a little since I turned 40. I am a married woman and I don't want to grow old alone. It does bother me.
If I were a single woman still I would be afraid. I am not sure if I would settle for less just to marry and not be alone because I would want to have happiness and harmony with my partner. Although that is not to say that I wouldn't consider it if I were single.

hi kenchi,
i am a working woman who have given priority to work, now that i am in my late 30's and i see my parents getting old, i admit i am afraid of getting old
i too have a sister older than me by 10 years, she is now taking care of our parents.. my brother is having his own family ..
i got married last year, and still not able to have children ..
i worry for my sister .. if i am well i will take care of her , but what about my husband .. will he like it .. ?
My husband is way older than me .. so .. if something happen to him ... i will be alone ..
well, thinking about it my career is not going to be there for me once i reach 50, so ... i believe i wasted my life
Finally when i am here now, i am afraid of the tomorrow, when i was younger it did not matter much ..
this is my opinion on myself only ...

I think quite the opposite, actually. More and more people are putting their careers before marriage. In fact, the infertility rate is rising yearly because women are waiting too long to have children. I don't think that wanting to marry quickly automatically means someone fears being alone. I think that for some people, having a great career is very important and so that's what they do. For others, a family is more important than a career and so that is what they do. If a man was in a hurry to get married, hardly anyone would say it was because he was afraid of being alone. I think we need to get rid of these double standards.
