When You have company over do you have them take their shoes off when they enter your house? We dont have people take their shoes off were we currently live because it is tile flooring and its easier to clean than carpet. When we lived at our old house we never asked people to remove thier shoes either but people would automaticly do it because the carpet was a really light color.
Do you ask your guests to remove their shoes?Does anyone think it is rude to be asked this?
Thanks for your answers!

Usually when me and my fiance have someone over we do not make them take their shoes off,but they are welcome to do so,so they can be as comfortable as possible since we want our guests to be comfortable,if my brother is over here,I will make him take his shoes off,so he does not try to sleep with them on the couch,or try to put them on the bed,but he does not get to come over very often, and he is more than willing to take his shoes off.

I guess it's different for all cultures. Some don't take off their shoes at all, some take them off depending on the weather, others take them off because it's their custom, or for cleanliness. I think I take my shoes off because I want to keep my home clean. Your shoes track all sorts of dirt when you wander about outside.

I don't think its rude to ask people to take off their shoes when they come in the house. I don't ask my guests to do it, they do it if they want. I don't wear shoes very much around the house anyway. If I go into someone elses house and see them take off their shoes, I will do the same out of respect.

It's up for my guests to do whatever they want. For sure if they have the courtesy they will take off their shoes because the floor is very clean. Even if it is not carpeted, they could observe that the floor is shining and they'd be ashamed to step on it with their dirty shoes. But I don't really ask them to take off shoes, I'm giving them the free will.

I am very finicky about cleanliness also because I have a little one at home. Hence I prefer that guests leave their footwear near the door when they enter. I don't think it is rude, it is ones way of living. Similarly I myself enter barefooted when I enter someone else's house. I have always been told by my elders that treat your house like a place of worship, keep it clean.

My entire family is all about cleanliness. I call my mom the queen neat freak of them all..lol but We have been told by some people that they find it rude when asked to take off their shoes so we stopped asking people.Plus we have tile now so it can be easily moped.

I don't ask company to take their shoes off b/c my carpets are a really dark color and I don't mind. Whatever makes them comfortable. When I go over my friends house, I've gotten into the habit of taking my shoes off, just because everyone else has theirs off already. They really don't mind if company wears shoes and sometimes I do forget to take them off.
I don't think it's rude to be asked to take your shoes off either especially if the person has light colored carpets. It's just like a sign of respect to take your shoes off, but like I said, my friends and I don't really care. It's all about what makes our company comfortable.
