Have you upgraded to SP3 for Windows XP? Is it really more secure than SP2?

I'm currently using Service Pack 2 for Windows XP Professional. A friend has told me that I should upgrade to SP3 stating that this upgrade absolutely necessary because it's much more secure than SP2.
I don't have a lot of free space on my computer. I'm wondering if the upgrade is really necessary? What do you think? Did you upgrade? Please share.

The first time the upgrade was offered to me it made my OS unstable and hanged out. But the 2nd time I gave it a try and it installed successfully on my PC. I really do not see the changes it made but as they say it is a secured update as they have upgraded all the security measures on my PC.

Service pack 3 is nothing more than trash, there's nothing so important in it.
Only tones of unnecessary fixes and "protections" and those bla bla stuff. Stay on service pack 2
