I have to laugh, someone disagrees with my political view and my ratings go down

Yes that seems to be the new thing thses days. I can see negging if someone beomes nasty and beligerent or is attacking posters ( hich is against the rules anyhow), but just to do it because they do not like what you say is childish.

LOL Isn't it funny, sort of, when ppl do such childish things. I mean could you imagine if we all had the exact same views, outlooks, opinions and thoughts. We'd be mindless robots. Everyone is going to disagree at some point. There's nothing wrong with that and no reason to - rate someone for it. The only time it bothers me is when ppl start getting hateful or nasty about anyone with a different view...like that's gonna get anyone to see things their way. It IS a shame when people get like this. I actually enjoy it when people have a difference of opinion because it makes for a far more interesting discussion overall! I would never, ever rate somebody negatively just because they happened to disagree with me. The only time I ever give someone a negative rating is if they post a referral link instead of an answer or just answer with one or two words or something like that. And even this I have only done maybe two or three times in the two and a bit years I have been here! As far as I am concerned, if someone's response is within the context of my discussion topic then they get a positive rating from me.

nanajanet I strongly agree with uyou. a long time back I had a ten and overnight some vicious person minused me down to a'six, I finally got back up to an 8 where I am now. this is so mean just because they did not agree with my views on smoking. I did not disrespect them so why did they do that to me? they were not my friends as my friends do not do things like that either.Itis funny and sort of pathetic that adult people would act that childishly.

hopefully your rating went back up....yeah not everyone like everything...I don't do or follow politic cause I don't get it so oh well lol....I dont vote or anything cause i dont believe in letting one man rule...I'm actually scared about if obama get elected because I watched one time when he was with Oprah and she said...."We Once worked for the White man, now let the white man work for us!" That totally freaked me out....and Mclain...hmmmm he's had a lot of expierence in things and Obhama none....I don't know ...they all talk big but when push comes to shove....So far nada...

I agree with the rest of the responses here, a negative should only be given for the already mentioned reasons and if they are off topic. Is there any recourse for you? can you fight a negative? Is there a place to go?

Thats interesting. I always thought the higher the number the lower your rating? I thought that if you were a 9 it was better than a 10 on here at least. People are getting really nasty when it comes to the election this year. My Best friend's house was egged as were others in her neighborhood that had signs for Obama in their yards. Also we had a billboard for Obama be vandalized pretty bad right off the highway. They put all kind of awful things on there. To bad people arent as vote happy as they are negative rate happy huh?

Your right my dear, lot of people keep putting negative even do your not doing wrong to them, just give them a smile just keep posting & share what you idea here in mylot, we have other co-mylotters is good enouight to be friend, i can say just ignore those people. smile

I've had the same thing happen and was amused as well. I know I didn't agree with you on a recent political post but it was well written and deserving of a + based on the guidelines set out for us. I don't think -'s should be given because of a difference of opinion. If a person doesn't like what is being said they can choose to just move on to another discussion they like better. I don't think this site should be all about "let's post safe things so no one disagrees" but I also don't think people need to be so negative when they disagree with another user. Consider your star as a "battle scar" LOL. You've spoken your mind and should be proud of not just taking the "safe route".

I think, this not unexpected. When people could not persuade another person to have the same view as him then they will get upset so they usually swear or hit you in real life if it gets into a really heated debate. In mylot.com, these people could not touch you so it woill mean a bit of consolation for them to give you a bad rating. ^^

Yes, it happens. YES it is petty & childish!!! I upset one person & mine dropped from a 10 to a 7. The person I upset actually bragged in another discussion how he had a personal vendetta against EVERYONE who had disagreed with him & he actually took the time to go to EVERY post I have entered since I started just to mark them negative. He not only did this to me but to about 5 other members too. He even had several discussions deleted in retaliation for our nerve to disagree with him. I take it as a compliment when mine goes down. It means I have stood up for what I believe (& did so passionately) & somebody found that to be a flaw. I am PROUD of my beliefs & do NOT expect everybody to believe the same thing!!! Could you imagine how dull this place would be if we ALL agreed??? Don't let them upset you!!! I seldom use the minus key. The really funny part of the one who attacked me was that in his vendetta, he lowered his star from a 9 to a 5 then had the nerve to whine that it was unfair. He DID IT TO HIMSELF & then wanted to blame me for it!!! Be proud, my friend, that you stood your ground passionately enough that they could not prove you wrong. So, then they grew petty & bitter & attacked like the COWARDS they are!!!I've plussed every comment you made in this discussion. Keep up the GREAT work!!!!!!

I think any good discussion that gets you thinking should never be ranked negative.

This is my first day as a member but i have visited for about a week before signing up and I am sorry I see no explanation or way that we can actually see how the ratings are handed out I can see no way of knwoing whether a post gets a + or - so i am curious as to how you determined it was the politcal view message that gave your rating a slight dive I will be happy with a 7 or 8 because in school 70percent and 80 percent for me where great marks Good Luck and even though someone doesnot agree with anyones post i hope does not mean they are an enemy . I have some great friends and sometimes they donot like what i say but they are my friends and remain that way unless it is real bad what happens and i do not see that happening . Yes, this great site is a site for creative discussions! Discussions means only discussions, not any commercial referrings to other programs. One may discuss about any program just avoiding any sense of promoting or referring. Then only a discussion as well as its responses will carry value for all. Another thing about dropping the star rate is I feel undesirable on this ground of defending discussion or response! Thanks for this nice posting!

I agree with you and we have the same predicament, I was a member of mylot a long time ago collecting a number of points which i have reached my points to close to 700 that time but i happen to be away for a year and i notice my points to have dropped to less than 1/2 from before. Well, i dont need to argue about for i dont know their rule in here, I dont care anyway, I simply wanted to spend sometime writing and answering questions. God bless you.

diffrent people have diffrent point of view. if you disagree with other people , just forget it, you can't get all people have the same opinion/ the action which rate low just show you narrow-minded, and that's gonna make me sick. nanajanet, forget such kinda things.
