work or money?

Interesting discussion the other day. Everybody responded differently than I did, but I think I took it differently too. The instructor asked what was more important, work or money. I immediately thought money but everybody else said work. Here's how I think they took it: What's more important with a job? Liking the work or making more money? Well in that situation, I can see how they'd say work. Here's how I took it: What's more important in life, work or money? And I said money because I was thinking that if I had enough money, I could do any work I like. Or not work, or whatever. So how would you answer the question the first way vs the second way?

I think that I will answer to that, MONEY.. because, work is just a media to get the money.. If I had only money, then only remains enjoy the life, in the other hand, there is work.. every day hard and bad work.. who wants to spend all day working? life is about enjoy it and not only working! I work 10hrs from Monday to Friday and then I go to the University.. I have no time to enjoy my life, because all what I do is a media to get money..

I life, I would agree. But if you have no choice but to work, would you choose a higher paying job that you hated or a lower paying job that you loved?

that's a hard question.. by now I think that I would choose the lower paying job that I love.. for something I love it doesn't it? maybe when I grow old I would like a better paying job, but right now I like work where I am, with my low income but having all what I want..

I might do the other way around, high money first so I could save for retirement, job I love later when I already have money.

I would have to say work. You have to work to get money. So to get the money which we all want you have to work. But I can see how this would be a unique discussion.

Sure but I was assuming a situation where you already had the money when I thought that way!

money is more important. cause when you have more money and when you are stable that you can now change your job what ever job you like so that you will not worry if you will go or pic another job that does not pay well but you enjoy more. but initially it is important to be practical and to choose the job that will support our needs and will make us able to afford to buy the things that we like and to keep us have a decent life and to provide for our loved ones. sometimes i think that i want to have a high paying job though i hate the job so that when i earn enough i will just goingn to go on a business and resign from a job. but if i don't really much money i will prefer to have a low paying job that i will enjoy.

liking the job is very important because in the long run its the job that makes you get paid, if you dread or dont like your job but you do like the salary then chances of messing it up are pretty high, think about it, you could call in sick more often than not as long the company will still pay you at the end of the month, you will work on limited time because its not that you want to be there but because you have to be there for the sake of the paycheck. if you dont like your job the chances of you growing careerwise in that company or field are very slim because the job does not really interest you.

Yep in the long run you have to like the job. But if your choices are work somewhere you hate or don't eat, I guess you'd work there, short term anyway...

I took it the second way, as in, what is more important in life, work or money. Although I did think it was a weird question, because I think everyone would rather have lots of money, than a job.

True, if you have lots of money you can work or not work as you like!

You got me there. I was thinking if you just say work, then you are advocating slavery, because if work is more important, that means you just work for the sake of work and that is what slaves do. If you just say money, then you are like Scrooge and are sitting pretty just watching the thousand dollar bills enter your house. And maybe jumping on that pile of money that you got by playing the lottery. So I cannot answer work or money, I would say both are equally important. You do work for work's sake, and you make money for money's sake, but in reality, you cannot have one without the other. If you have money though, you can choose your work so I go with the second one.

I think I say work because I you have work to do you will get money by working and with money you can get work to do and again money against the work you do once and again. Will work again for money will do. Am I right in say work or wrong give it a second thought and then come up with the question. How you see it and please comment and have a nice money or work you like.

All is relative. If I had work I loved but I couldn't feed my family on what it paid, I would reluctantly give it up for higher paying work that I didn't like as much.

I have the same answer like yours. Money is not everything but without money is nothing. I always keep this in my mind. If I have adequate money,I can do whatever I like. Maybe some people will think money cannot buy happiness but without money,I don't think we can truly be happy with our life. In term of work and money, definitely I will choose money over work. It's always true that we need to be happy with work so that we can work longer to earn more. But for me,I think we can build up our own interest from the job. It's not always necessary for us to have the interest with our job.

Practically speaking, its something to do with money. Did you work because you like to? Or you work because you want to earn? I think, you'll choose the second options. The main reason why you work is because you want to earn a living, you want to live in the comforts of life. When we talk about working because you like the work, technically speaking, you can work even if it cost you nothing in return. Am I right? Work is a media to earn money, and to think many professionals abandoned their job just to get a better pay even if it means working not inline with their profession. Nowadays, it doesn't matter what type of job you have, as long as you earn a better living and you don't harm anyone. You're degree now, for some, don't cause any but a passport to land a job or to qualify for a position.

Many people like to work, can't remain idle. Often it isn't for the money (like around your own house). But for me, if I didn't need the money to make payments, I"m pretty sure I'd be doing something else!

My answer would be worked first before money. Having a descent job, even you earn a little at least you are being paid worth. Thank having money from whom. It's a good idea if there is someone who will gonna gave you a capital to start a worked. Then if you got more savings already, you can now find another worked you want. See, that's how things work.

Most likely if you hate your job, it isn't going to work out anyway. But what if the job you love doesn't pay enough to live and the job you don't love does?

If you work you would be able to make more money, however, if you start making money right now it wont be as much as you think you be making.

I wpuld answer it with work. My chosen field of Horticulture was very poor paying but on the most part the work was very enjoyable other then the long spring hours and the mad rush to satisfy hundreds of customers. It was a very pleasing job. But the pay really sucked. When my friends and I graduated from college they got jobs starting at $2400 a month. Mine started at $900. But I loved the actual work.

I would have given the exact opposite answer. I would prefer liking the job instead of having more money. If I don't like the job, work becomes boring and I would quit sooner or later. Remember that we stay at 8hours if not more at the place of work. So if you don't feel comfortable at work, you are wasting 8 hours out of 24 hours.

Well I was thinking along the lines that if you had enough money already, you could pick a work that you loved. But if you have no choice but to work, then yes, the work becomes much more important!

It is good to make money and how do you make money withot working.the work we do determine our income. But it will be very bad for anyone to work for money but is good to work to learn.Money is the symbol of our plan, money plays important roll in our lives. In any thing we are doing money is very important without money everything will be boring life will not sweet,so we can't separate work from money the two both are very important.

I think I would also take the question the way you did, if there was no further explanation given. I agree, if you have money you van choose the work, or you may choose to pursue other interests, since money is not an issue anymore. So on that basis, money is more important. At least for me, it is.

i think they are both important. money will make your life more easier but when working you make new friends, time passes quickly and if you're happy with your work you look forward for it and it more helps you to socialize with others and be happy with your life. of course money is important in life because without money you can't do noting. i thin that they are both important in humans life.
