What is the food/dish you hate the most or don't eat at all?

I specifically do not eat what is called here "Paksiw na Isda" (Fish in Vinegar sauce). It's seasoned with ginger, black pepper, onions and garlic. Most Filipinos love to eat this dish but I really don't like it. While I was pregnant, I was eating at my in-law's house, they cooked this dish and I had no choice but to eat it. I wasn't able to hide my disgust because I ran in the wash room and vomited what I put in my mouth. They just told me to cook something else. I was so embarrassed. I also avoid eating Guyabano (soursop), Ampalaya (bitter melon) and Tortang talong (Eggplant Omelet). To everybody, is there any particular food/dish that you avoid or don't eat at all?

Crab cakes? From the word cake I take it's something sweet with crabs? Am I right. That sounds gross. I wouldn't eat something like that either. Thanks for the response!

I see. But from what you said it sound like you haven't tasted eggplant omelet yet. In Tagalog it's "Tortang Talong". Just by the sound of the eggplant there you won't like it. Although I remember a friend of mine, cooked it very well and it tasted fine. I didn't eat a lot though coz I still thought of the eggplant and I saw the seeds.

Little golf ball sized cabbages with a stronger taste. Actually they are not so bad if they are steamed just right, but over or under cook them even a little and YUCK.

Relyenong bangus or stugged milkfish is traditionally cooked by frying the fish first then all the bones will be removed and then the fish meat is removed then the meat will be sauted with onion, garlic and tomatoes then after that butter, peas, raisins, carrots and eggs are added. EVerything will be "stuffed" back the milk fish ("Bangus") skin. You won't smell any foul order just yummy smell of all the ingredients combined. Check out this recipe and see how its made: http://results.myhpf.co.uk/framedresults.asp?Keyword=relyenong+bangus

Pig ears and chicken livers? I don't think you will like the Filipino dish Pork Sisig. . The original recipe is that it's supposed to have pig ears. Pork Sisig is my favorite dish as long as they use just regular pork meat not the ears. eew.

I don't like animal flesh (red meats, poultry, eggs, pork, etc) seafood, or fish, nor do I care for okra, brussel sprouts, or lima beans too much. I like most veggies and most fruits.

I don't ampalaya either. My mom eats it. I hate it. LOL I don't like diniguan (sp?) I guess because it translates to blood in English so it makes me queasy. I don't like bagoong either.

I used to eat dinuguan but not anymore. As for bagoong, I don't eat as well but one food stall made me eat it because they're bagoong is delicious especially if partnered with Kare-kare. I don't eat much though because it gets too salty. It has Sweet and Salty taste. I liked the sweet part!

I also don't like "paksiw na isda" because of the smell. But of course, if there would be nothing else to eat, I could stomach it somehow. I like 'tortang talong' especially if there's ground beef or 'giniling' on it. I have acquired the taste of bitter melon over the years. I think what I could not eat is goat meat. I totally can't stand the smell and the taste of it. Happy myLotting!

Good for you that you can eat bitter melon. My mom cooks it but I never really liked it. I believe there are some people who can actually cook it minus the bitterness. Goat meat? err not good, I don't think it's clean. Thanks for the response!

For me, it's adobong atay or sauteed liver in soy sauce and vinegar. I really don't like that dish, really can't make me eat it no matter what. Actually any liver or organ dishes, really don't like to eat and the taste of it as well. Even though, liver are rich in irons, and I truly needed it for my anemia, I really can't eat it.

Maybe because of the bitter taste of liver? Have you ever tried pork sisig of sisig hooray? They actually put chicken liver in their sisig but it's really good. You should taste it . The pork they use is just meat no "icky" pig ears or pig brains.

Hi Yuna, I hate to eat eggplant, when I was small until I start working, my mum always cook eggplant this way. But when I having a set dinner, the chef just fried the eggplant with slice piece, and it taste good. Before that I really don't eat eggplant. I also don't eat liver, all liver of animal, but I eat kidney, I just don't like the taste of liver. I don't like to eat cereal, I just don't like the taste. Or may be I don't know how to cook the cereal?

filipino 'paksiw' or fish in vinegar is one of my favorite dishes. you're not just used to eating it that's why the distasteful reaction. one thing i'm not really fond of is the smell of chinese food. i'm not saying chinese food per se is bad. i know the chinese are among the best cooks in the world! but when i went in hong kong last year, there's this prevalent pungent smell from chinese food everywhere, especially out in the streets with all the yummy-looking street foods i would have tried, and didn't. the smell turned me off. i don't know if there's a special spice they used out there that's present in all of their cuisine, but even the chinese restaurants have that 'smell'. but chinese food in the philippines don't have that smell, so i enjoyed eating out in chinese restaurants here. anyway, so i didn't get to eat anything else in hong kong except thai food and mcdonald's. but like i said, it's just a matter of getting used to. could be that i'm not used to authentic chinese food but it could have been better if at least i should have tried...

Interesting. You probably wouldn't like Filipino dish "Tinolang Manok." It's like chicken soup but no milk just sauteed garlic and ginger. With a few "sili" (PEPPER) leaves and slices of Papaya. You won't like my spaghetti as well because I always cook it with mushrooms. . Thanks for the response!
