most of parents read something for their children before going to sleep. i am not good in telling stories that sometimes i read it too fast that even my wife couldnt understand what i said. so my wife do the reading and when it is time for me i just sing. well we call it lullaby but i dont sing songs like that. ising the songs the songs i know and i want. the most favorite that my son likes to hear is how sweet it is by james taylor. so how about you do you sing a song for your child or you read a book?

You got it right. And its more beautiful when sung by a girl. My son is three years old and he never got tired of listening to it every single night. And I'm still singing it till now, so that when he grows old and hears the song, he would still remember me... =)

My son is almost 3. We read for about 30=40 minutes before nap and bedtime. Probably about 6 books that are actual stories, not just little picture books. Then I tuck him in with all his friends and sing him Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. I don't remember why we started with that song, he just wanted something, and that's all I could think of at the time. :)

Well with my one child I usually sing Jesus loves me to her, my oldest usually puts herself to bed and my 4 year old son has started asking me to sing songs about the craziest things, like "I want a song about a pickle", or " I want a song about a sweater", pretty crazy stuff. And yeah we usually sit down and they all listen to a story before bed.

i actually don't have a kid yet, but i also want to share something in the discussion. my father sings for me before i sleep, i still find it very relaxing and enjoyable. so when i will have my own kid i would definitely sing to him/her before they go to sleep. it's a good way to spend time with them (",)

I do sing to my daughter to get her to sleep sometimes. Unfortunately, I only know a few songs. So I ALWAYS sing these songs: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Silent Night, I Love You (Barney Song), Rock a Bye Baby, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, and The Itsy Bitsy Spider.

Yeah, Rudolph no matter how close it is to Christmas. She doesn't know the difference anyway. I actually know the whole song and it's long, so it gives her time to fall asleep especially since my playlist is so short.

i used to sing to my babies a lot. now i only do it when they request it. i normally don't sick to one song. my son sometimes want a little song from his nemo song book, sometimes he wants rock a by baby and others he wants me to sing a song i used to sing to them from an old Sleeping Beauty musical i used to watch. since school started, my boys like books and things, but i still like it when my little one wants me to sing because he has such a happy face when i do it.

When my son was a baby I used to sing rockabye baby song and a local Malay song. Later when he is older I used to read storybooks to him. Now he is 12 years old and he prefers to watch TV before bedtime.

yes this kind of things children out grow it. maybe 12 years old kids still want stories but i know they would rather read it to themselves than letting parents read it. i know my son will out grow this too, but for the mean time me and my wife will enjoy it. thanks a lot for the response

Sometimes, i don't have much songs to sing to him and sometimes my hubby read baby's book to him. I need more practice and research for baby lullaby. Sometimes i do humming to him until he drops off to sleep. Happy posting.

well you can sing something you like as long as it is not a rock song or a disco one. any love song you like is okay. a friend of mine sings carpenter songs for her baby and her favorite is close to you. you dont need to practise i am sure your child will appreciate any song from you. thanks a lot for the response

I sing this amazing song that my grandparents sang to me when I was a little girl, and every time I sing it my son just smiles instantly. Apparently the song was a hit in the US a long time ago, way before my own time. I am not sure what the song is called, we just call it the alphabet song. It goes through the alphabet like this... A, you're adorable B, you're so beautiful C, you're a cutie full of charm D, you're delightful E, you're exciting F, you're a feather in my arms. and on and on... I love this song so much. It means alot to me, especially because my grandpa sang it to me too. He passed away before I had children so I feel like this is a way I can share him with them too.
