If you want mainly photo quality pictures, then choose an Epson or a Canon with multi ink tank and consider using 3rd party inks. Any printer which combines several colours in the same ink tank is going to waste money, since you have to throw away unused ink every time you replace the tank...you probably still have 1/2 tank of yellow ink ond plenty of magenta when the cyan runs out, but you have to throw away and pay for new ink you didn't need!If you want only occassional photos and mainly print text, HP claims some of their printers in economy mode outperform the others. Laser prinetrs are the cheapest option by far in the running cost stakes. Ricoh make a colour laser for under $160 and mono printers are turning up in the discount stores all the time. The replacemet cartridges are pricey, but no worse than a full set of inks. They last for ages and work out much, much cheaper.

I think the best printer for me is canon iP1200 Pixma. And after the warranty you can refill your cartridges at the refilling stations and you can save a lot, not like the new ones that cost almost 900 for the black ink and the colored ones is 1400 here in the philippines.
