We had so much rain this summer that I was forced to use the electric dryer. I really hate to use it during the summer, but we had a whole month with only a couple rain-free days and I have three kids. This month it is beautiful and I've been able to get all the clothes and a lot of our blankets washed and then dried outside. They all smell so good! Are there a lot of people who still like to use sun and wind power to dry their clothes?

When my children were young, after we moved into our home, I had my husband put up lines so I could hang my clothes out. That lasted awhile. But it didn't seem they smelled as good as they did when I was young. One thing might have been the chicken business that was only about 3/4 of a mile from our house. We had that smell in the air most of the time, especially when the air blew our way. There is no longer a chicken business there, but I don't have an urge to hang my clothes out anymore. I just love my dryer.

I didn't get to hang my clothes out on the line much this summer either , it really was a miserable summer and now it is so cold out that the thought of freezing to hang the clothes out doesn't seem worth it . I love hanging the clohtes out because it cost so much to use the dryer and for the same thing we can do outside and it doesn't cost a thing . I am thinking of having my husband build me an indoor clothes line . It won't give me the nice outdoor smell but it will cut down on the power bill .

I live in Halifax and it's just that much warmer here than where you are that it's still not too cold. It does take all day to dry a line of clothes though! When it gets cold enough to light the fire, I'll get out my indoor racks and hang the clothes in the basement. Anything to cut the powerbill with NSP putting up the rates again.

I have been drying clothes on the line for years. My favorite thing about it is that when in a hurry to get the house taken care of, I hang all the heavy things outside, like jeans, shirts, blankets and towels. The small things like socks and underwear I throw in the dryer for less than normal time. I get them all done faster that way. In the summer and spring and fall here I can hang the clothes out as much as I want without the rain. I love the fresh air smell and the jeans still fit on my butt without shrinking.

OH! you have a realclothes line outside! I do dry some of my things outside when the wind isn't so high that it blows them off the bushes, but I don't have a clothes line. Now that I'm retired and can do laundry any time it's sunny I'd love to have one again.

Yep! A real clothesline. I told my husband that when he rebuilds the deck next year, I want two lines. My sister has two and it's great. I have three children and the oldesst one is three so I have enough laundry to sink a ship! It has to be done rain or shine.

I'm not really a fan of that but then again I didn't grow up with my family doing that either. My family used a dryer all the time so whenever clothes were done washing, they were automatically put into the dryer and that was that. However, sometimes I do handwash some things and sometimes those things do get hung up in my room to dry but that is about that.

Man, I miss having a clothes line. We used to, you see ^_^. We have clothes racks for our new house when we move, in case we're delayed or in the event of those rainy days/snowy days.
We have a dryer too, but we prefer not to waste money alot...and when you can dry your clothes without using electricity (which takes money)...then it just seems to make sense, really.

I use an outside clothesline. It is really stupid that a lot of the high priced subdivisions going up in this area have rules that clotheslines are not allowed in their gated communities. So much for energy conservation. It is alright for us poor folks, though.

We used a clothesline when I was growing up. I've got a big enough yard that I could do it now but our dog and the neighbor's dog would be a problem. It the two of them get ahold of a cushion from the yard furniture they will destroy it - I can only imagine what they would do to sheets or towels hanging on a clothesline! They'd think it was one big dog toy!

I grew up hanging clothes on the line and love to hang clothes on a line today. Someimes I can't do it because they are building new subdivisions and burning a lot of the stumps and stuff. I love hanging on the line though.

I like your name. That was one of my favorite aunt's name before she passed away. In reference to your question, yes I do love to hang out my clothes! I even hang them out inside when it is raining. I have 2 hanging racks in my wash room as well as an empty clothes rack in my bathroom that I hang them on. I even go as far as to hang them inside on the windows and such if I run out of room! The house looks bazaar but I would hope that friends/family would understand. Stranger get talked to on the porch! In the summertime when it gets so hot and humid that the clothes still feel wet sometimes when you go out to get them I do hang them inside then as well. It helps keep the house much cooler!
