How far have you got?

How far have you got with writing a video game? I've some basic block games on all sorts of platforms (from the Nintendo Wii with the homebrew stuff to the PC using Java) but I never get any further than that. I see the outline of the game take shape and say "Bored, next challenge" and the next challenge is never "finish this". If you have got past that point what made you keep at it? What kept you motivated to see it through to the end?
