Oh my god....
I just had to comment. You guys are commenting on the state of things about 4 years ago.
Intel is thoroughly thrashing AMD with their latest processors. Not only that, AMD is in a lot of trouble as a company because Intel has been killing them ever since the Core 2 series of chips.
What's really killing AMD is that once Intel took the performance lead back they didn't stop. They moved on to their Penryn chips which used a smaller more efficient 32 nanometer process while AMD was still struggling to get from a 90 nanometer process to a 65.
Now, while AMD is still struggling to catch up Intel is coming out with their Nehalem chips (iCore 7) at the end of the year which will be 32 nanometers!
I saw people commenting on Athlon XP's verses Pentium 4's. What the hell!? Those were computers that were sold 4 years ago or so. So yeah, if you are talking old systems from back in the day, then yeah maybe, Intel got a little lax back then. But the situation is DRAMATICALLY different now.
These days, anything an AMD chip can do, an Intel chip can do much better.

I have to agree that was way long ago. But then this discussion, I think, is on that setup. Why talk about the new ones when we are still using these old PCs. Of course quality-wise, the Core series is much better, as it is the top-of-the-line desktop chips of Intel. BUt then you talk like you're all genius when people don't really care that much about nehalem chips and stuff. You must be a computer engineer, knowing all those stuffs. Kudos to you.
We are just talking practical issues here. We all know Intel is BETTER.
Are you a fanboy?
IMO.

Intel has a brand name and good reputation so most often we go for Intel. It has a good will and so is bettter but most people don't really know why is Intel better then amd and this discussion surely will shed some light on it.
The major advantage of intel over amd is the heating problem. The processing speed of amd is good but it suffers from this heating problem hence the system restarts automatically when it get over heated which may result in loss of important data but intel really has a very advanced cooling technology for it's processors and the heat sinks absorbs the heat and doesn't allow it to overheat
This is the major advantage of intel over amd and why people prefer it. other then this Amd too is a very good processor. I haven't used the amd for sometime now and have herad that they have solved this problems in their latest ones. If this thing is solved I don't think amd has any further disadvatanges

Hmm...this is a definite. AMD chips are better for games. I've tried and tested it. Even for minigames like Diner Dash, my AMD Athlon XP 1.2ghz with only 128mb ram runs games better than my Dell Optiplex with Intel Pentium 4 2.4 ghz with 256mb ram and Compaq with Intel Pentium 4 2.0ghz with 600+mb ram. I think it differs with the Core series. But yeah, AMD cores are cheap, and that's the best thing.

I didn't see this post before that you live in the Philippines. I will admit, I am ignorant of the technological situation in your country. So I suppose that that question is subjective to where a person lives and what is available.
So, if the question is who produces the best chips, AMD is till trying to catch up with their latest Phenom chipsets, but Intel is just far outpacing them. They just don't have the fabrication plants and R&D to keep up with Intel. But yeah, if what's available to you is from the Athlon and Pentium 4 days, then hell yeah, stick with AMD.

Oh my. Ask your OS. All I know is that yeah my AMD does it good. I'm about to shift to quad core, or if I'm lucky, to my Cell Processor care of my PS3. Hehe hellooooo Linux!
AMD chips are good at gaming. That's all I can say. And cost-effective too.
And it can do all of that much better than my Pentium. And yeah, I'm still living at the past...
Whoever says this is about 4 years ago, I don't care. We are in the Philippines and technology prices here doesn't go down as fast as with those technological countries out there. We want to change PCs, but they ain't cheap. We'll stick with what our money can buy.
But of course, it's not very fair to compare and Athlon to a Core 2...that's just mean.
I got to agree. With the situation right now, an Intel Core 2 does it better. Pentium D still sucks though.

I'll go for AMD cause im a gamer and amd is meant for it. Intel is good in general but use amd for your specific use. Like games most internet cafe here use amd cause a lot of people played a high game like warcraft, ran online, tantra, ragnarok and many more. It is also good in video or movies.

those who have enough money to throw away should use intel.
all else should AMD.
lol, thats what i listned about these processors,
i have no technical knowledge about them,
but still if you compare the prices,
the intel processor of 2.2GHZ will cost approx equal to 3GHZ of amd.
so why wouldnt one buy faster processor, thats what i thought and bought AMD.
and i am living happily with it.
thanks

AMD is much cheaper and it has a fine quality, but Intel has more variety and most software developers create their software based on it. The reason is that AMD specialized in producing video cards (ATI) and it is good at that, the processors are just side products. On the other hand Intel specialty is processors production.

intel is better in Multi Media.i think you can get a better performance when you play a HD movie with intel.but amd is better in gaming.

I always used Amd for no reason, lol~Say since my first pc 6 years ago.Maybe I don't like the the brand of Intel or sth like that.lol~~I think both of them are ok,they're seizing the dominated market after all.
