This is a shot of my Beagle, BUSTER.
he loves sitting on the back of my couch at the window.
Here he can keep an eye on unwanted visitors.
or anything that moves actually.
He will howl like crazy until they is out of sight.
he is a good watch dog.
Not a good gaurd dog though.
Does your dog bark at any movement outside the house?
Is your dog a howler like my beagle Buster?

I love dogs. I like beagles too. i have a Pomeranian and he tries to be a watchdog LOL. My dog is a good watchdog but not a good guard dog either. My dog barks like crazy. I thought about getting him a bark collar for when he is indoors.

My daughter has a male yorkie. He doesn't bark much. He will bark only when someone knocks or rings the doorbell.

No, my dog seems to allow anyone coming up our drive, but when we take her out on a walk or to visit someone, see barks her head off, frightening many people who see her..Zoe, being a white German Shepherd, to the person who doesn't know their dogs, looks like a white wolf, so her barking does scare some people..But I would rather her not bark while we are out and bark when someone comes to our door, but she has it all backwards..

My dogs like to watch out the window, too. Cookie will bark at air, I swear, she's so excitable. She's calmed down a bit recently but the squirrels really drive her nuts. And Gus is very protective of us all!
I would much rather have a watch dog that loves people than a guard dog that I had to worry about the biting issue. Hugs to Buster!

Our dog, only barks at us, when we come home! She barks anytime a family member comes home (cause she's happy) and doesn't bother much with barking any other time!

Buster looks like he's spotted a rabbit, Grandpa Bob. Think Domingo is hearing a lot of things that aren't there cause he's been barking at what seems like nothing outside. Go to window and see nothing at all, yet he is barking up a storm out it. Loves chasing the squirrels and racoons as well. Doesn't make a sound then. Just rushs at them and growls when he gets near them. Only time he howls is when a sound is hurting his ears or if I start howling.

Boy oh boy is Petie a barker. He drives me crazy when he gets into the barking jag. I try to stop him. In fact I will close the front windows of my home when I leave because I am afraid Petie will drive my neighbors crazy. I also am afraid one day he might go out the screen. He never has tried to push him self through a screen but there is always a first time.
This is my front window. I did not have one of Petie sitting at the window that I have not posted before.

It depends on the mood of my dog whether or not he is a good watch dog or a guard dog or just a lazy dog. As for howling, he only howls after my daughter goes home after a visit when she brings her two dogs then he will howl and howl. A time or two I have gone out front and gotten out of his sight and could hear him howl some.

Buster howls at the slighest movement or sound from outside.
His ears perk up and he stares at the window from where the sound came.
Too funny to watch him as the neighbors close their car door.
he howls looking all around and sees nothing.
Then he howls some more and looks one last time.
Then thaT HEAD DROPS ONTO THE COUCH WAITING FOR THE NEXT SOUND.

Right now all we have is one full blooded Chihuahua and two mixed breed Chihuahua's and they bark at the mere sight of something moving or a mere russle of the leaves. LOL I call them my yappy noise making squirts!! LOL They're cool dogs though because they let me know if something is amiss!! AND rattle my head at the same time!! LOL

Oh don't you know it!! Of course!! Here's one the my brother in law loves!! He gets a kick out of Peanut's expression over something he doesn't like such as what I'm doing in this picture which is pinching his side just a little. It doesn't take much for him to show his teeth only now he doesn't have any up front to show anymore!! LOL All he has to show is his gums since most of them have been pulled out. LOL

My dog Sassy has a rocking chair by the front window that she considers hers. She sits with her chin propped on the arm and looks out the window and she does bark at everything in the street. The other day she kept barking and I kept checking and could not see anything , finally I notices a large plastic cup lying in the street and the wind would blow and it would move. We went and picked the cup up and threw it away and she was fine. She also barks when anyone comes into the driveway or yard be it human or animal. Although someone she knows can come into the house and she won't make a sound.
She also lets me know when we have a snake or a turtle in the yard. I have to go look before she will quit barking. I had rather not look at a snake but I usually have to take her into the house when it is a snake because she wants to play with them and I fear she will get bit.

Hi Grandpa from another Grandpa,
My wife and I have a dog that we got from the SPCA in 2001. He came with a name - Buster - and we left it because he is a Buster. He is a Lab, Bull-Mastiff mix. Luckily he is more Lab than Bull Mastiff. He is a very good watchdog. He will bark when he hears a sound outside. We keep him away from he front window because, at 90 lbs., he could go right through it. If my wife is in the living room, and she needs something from the kitchen, I will put it in a plastic bag, call Buster, and he will deliver it - for a price of a treat naturally. He really works like a dog!
All the best to you Grandpa,
George

that is really a very cute pic grandpa bob... i don't have a dog at the moment... but i used to have a pomenarian dog in the past and she will bark at any strangers that she doesn't know yet as well... not only bark, she will also lick and try to jump on the person like she wants to play with him/her... my hubby used to be really scared of her when he visits my house in the past as he doesn't like dog at all... he says that she is too aggressive and he is afraid that she will bite him... take care and have a nice day...

Oh Grandpa Bob... This is something that plagues me every night. I have a patio sliding door that faces the back of my apartment complex. It faces a lot of land and trees. Every person brings their pets back there to do their business, so management won't see them. It gets especially bad after 6pm when the office people go home. I have those apartment blinds, so my dog just puts his face between them and barks and barks and barks. Sometimes it is at a dog and its owner, sometimes it is because of the rabbits, and sometimes it is because a plastic sack rolls by. At 2am this morning I got up and tried to shush him because I didn't want to tick off my upstairs neighbor. I do have a watch dog. But he just doesn't discriminate what he watches for.

we have 2 dogs right now. one is too sweet for his own good..and will bring a toy to anybody at the door. the other is a little doxie mix and he hears a sound and hackles go up and he's on tippytoe to look bigger while barking his head off!
if someone in the house screams/squeals/yelps in any way he is up and barking and tearing to the rescue!! course if it a bug..he goes tearing just as quickly in the opposite direction LOL!
