Do you think that hyperactive kids are born like that or they became like that? Do you think that children become hyperactive due to the parents’ lack of parental skills or it is something in their genes? Do you think that inadequate diet helps children to become hyperactive?

I think that all three are true to some extent. Some children are misbehaved due to lack of parenting. Others, not as many as they say, actually have problems such as chemical imbalances or whatever. I think ADD and ADHD have become a widely used excuse for kids who simply do not want to listen. According to my psychology book sugar does not cause hyperactivity so I do not think diet has much to do with it. However, maybe inadequate diet, lack of sleep, etc. could combine to make misbehaved children but that really goes back to lack of parenting doesn't it?

Both of my boys were somewhat hyper. Our controlling of their diet, consistency in discipline, support, and love kept them from becoming worse than hyper. I think that lack of attention span and hyperactivity combined with parents who are less than attentive and supportive end up with hyper kids being add or adhd.

I see that we agree. Sometimes it's true they really are ADD, but often times it's not that and merely the fast pace of our world. That is not taking the time or extra time and care to help WITHOUT a pill!

they are born this way it,s a sickness that affect the mind and how they act even what they say.these kids can be a hand full for some parents getting in trouble a lot all sorts of things they don,t think before they act. they are very smart if they would just slow down and think .

That is a very good question my friend, and I have never actually stopped and thought about whether or not kids are born hyperactive or become hyperactive because of the way they are raised,I think kids can be born hyperactive especially if the parents were hyperactive when they were kids, but I think for the most part kids who are hyperactive become that way because of the way they are raised, even though it is not a fact of parents having a lack of parental skills.

i think it could be either.. i think that some times its parents not disiplining their kids but i have seen kids that their parents were doing their best but the kid obviously was so freaking hyper he couldnt help himself.. i also think that the environment (as in air/food/etc) is making something in our system not as controlled as it should be.. if that makes ANY sense at all.. lol

Im 100% conviced that no one is born in some way (is its not some genetic illness, but we are not talking about that now), they become like that. Maybe because elements in food we are eating, environment they live in, people around them.....it all has many effects on that like on everything else.

I have seen many hyperactive kids i dont like them when they are too much , we get tired after keeping them silent , we cannot hold them in a place , they shout, cry , beat do all naughty stuffs , too much naughty is not good .Some children are hyperactive to certain level and they do stop when they are tired and take rest, there certain children who never take rest they keep on playing and keeping themselves busy those kids are seen with an syndrome called hyperactive syndrome which is not at all good , it may lead to serious effects..

I think it is hwo they are rasied and diet does have somethign to do with it and beign able to get away with things and parents not watching there kids the way they shoudl be watching them will make them act out to get somebody anybody attention. Some might be born with it if they have ADD but most of them it is how they are brought up and what they are taugth by the parents.

I am convinced that it is natural and maybe genetic. I grew up before ADD and these things were really an issue. I have a brother that is and was very hyper and talkative...always had to have an audience...still does. I was extremely shy, laid back, easy going yet friendly and I love people. Still, I didn't need the stage nor want it. I have another brother who is quite negative in his thinking and very much a loner...not a people person at all. When we were in school, my brother who is very hyper & i used to get notes sent home from the teacher. My brother's notes would say things like, "your son is a natural born leader but the other kids are not ready to be led yet" or " Your son can not seem to keep quiet or learn to raise his hand before speaking." On the other hand almost all notes sent home were in regards to the fact that I was too quiet and teachers knew I knew answers yet did not raise my hand. I am grown and have 4 children...they are all completly different even though all raised the same way. I don't believe it could possibly parenting skills.some has been proven to be genetic.

I believe there are those born like that and there are those who became hyperactive because of their diet. Studies show that the too much sugar, food colorings and artificial additives in food intake can cause hyperactivity. So from that, I assume that a mother who consumed a lot of those during the pregnancy will bring out a hyperactive child. On the other hand, a mother who did not but as the child was growing had fed his child with too much of those will develop his child to be hyperactive.

I think alot of it comes from lack of exercise, lack of a healthy diet, and way too much sugar. However I'm sure some of it can stem from genes. I had a friend as a child that was obviously hyperactive. He ate good, he got plenty of exercise when we played, but yet he couldn't sit still. I remember one mean teacher even TIED him to his chair in school. These days you can't get away with things like that thankfully.

Hi ronaldinu, I'm no expert because I have not had any children, but it maybe to do their diets where they eat junk food, too many sugery sweets and fizzy drinks I don't think its in their genes and they are not born with it. Tamara

I have a three and ahalf yr old boy who is hyperactive. But i donot think that food is responsible for that because i have always taken care of that. And i donot think that there has been any lacking in our parenting. i think i should reduce his time of watching tv. Guess it will help.

There are many reasons. One behavior that causes kids to be hyper is when they watch too much television and/or play too many video games. Since they have constant movement on the screen, kids can't focus on still objects for long, because they are used to this stimulus and so much movement. Therefore, they need to keep moving to achieve the same affect. Another is diet. Kids who are given foods with too many preservatives, processed sugars, high-fructose corn syrup, not enough protein, too many sweet drinks, can have a tendency towards this, too. I am sure some children are just born that way, too, but I have seen great improvement in children where the parents changed those things that I have mentioned, above. Of course, there has to be some who just have poor parenting skills, too, that can cause a bit of it, but I don't think complete hyperactivity is just a parenting skill issue, just a contributing factor, in some cases.

I'm absolutely convinced the problem is chemicals in the food we are eating. There have been studies done where children who supposedly have ADD and other similar conditions are taken off processed food and given diets of natural and wholesome cooking with fresh fruit and vegetables. The behaviour and concentration improves within days. I wish governments would take these dangerous preservatives and chemicals out of the food chain and make it illegal to use them. I'd rather the food went 'off' in a few days (like it used to do) rather than stayed 'fresh' for weeks because it was full of crap. I've bought milk with a use-by date three weeks ahead! It used to go off within three or four days when I was a child. What are they doing to our food? It's scary!

yah inadequate diet is the reason thats why children became hyperactive. the another reason may be the proper knowledge of the mother when they are pregnant i.e. what kind of food or meal they will eat at that time. Sometimes genes (a segment of DNA that is involved in producing a polypeptide chain, it can include regions preceding and following the coding DNA as well as introns between theexons, it is considered a unit of heredity) are effective for that.(genes were formally called factor).
