"Oh you have given me too much change" Would you admit this or keep it?

You go into a shop and you hand your money over for your purchases, when you get your change and count it however, you notice that you have been given change for a lot higher note than you actually gave them. Would you go back, tell them and give it back or would you think "well it is their fault for not taking care" and keep it? Come on tell me, and be totally honest, I won't judge you by your answer!!!

It happened to me all ready...the cashier gave me 100 pesos more than what I should get, I quickly hand over her the excess money. I don't want to be burdened by my conscience. I know what is right and what is wrong and I don't want to have a guilty conscience just because of a 100 pesos. We should live by example. If we are doing good things to other people, then they will also do good things to us.

Kind of like what we sow is what we will ultimately reap.

Judge me ,judge me not Rose, but if it were a small shop then I would definately give the excess change back, theres something about the smaller shopkeepers ,but if it was a huge store where half of the time the assistants do not care whether they serve you or not then I would just put the change into my purse and turn heel and walk away.

I only said I would not judge to get people to be honest, sometimes people will not say the truth because of what others may think. I agree that the small shopkeepers can be hit hard by this sort of loss.

It depends. If I am a regular customer and the shopkeeper always treat me nice yes I would give the extra change back. If I get the feeling that my money is being taken out of my pockets and the service is bad no I will keep the change.

This has happened to me a couple times and I've always pointed it out. It was kind of instinctive. I would feel horrible if at the end of the night the cash register sum didn't come out right and someone got fired for giving too much change. But to be honest sometimes I don't even check and see if they gave me the right amount. That's probably bad, but when I'm in a hurry I just kind of give a cursory glance at it and go on. Although a lot of places actually count out the change to me as they are giving it back to me.

I always count my change, simply because I am the sort that seems to get shortchanged rather than overchanged!

I'd return it! Honesty is the best policy and I am a cashier myself and so I know how easy it is to make a mistake and the problem it causes if you do! Also, I could not live with myself if I did not make it right with them! ~Heavens~

Yes it does cause problems, I used to work in a pub and if the tills did not balance up at the end of the night, whoevers till it was would get trouble for it.

Yes, I would. I have done this a couple of times before and I will still do it in the future.. I know for some people they would think that it's a blessing. But not for me. because I think if it's a blessing, it would come on a good way. I think it is more of a temptation on how honest you are.

I guess that some would keep it and some would give it back.

If I was over changed, I would give it back. I really believe in Karma, and if I cheat the person. I believe I would be given bad luck. Once a long time ago, I either paid for gas or something small. The clerk was about to give me change for 500 dollars, honestly I don't think they even make a $500.00 dollar bill. I was quick to tell her that I gave her 5.00, she was very greatful for me for speaking up.

If I notice it there and then then I give back the extra cents or $ they gave me. If I didn't notice it until I got home then I don't bother. It's usually not more than $1 or $2.

Definetly give it back. The reason I say this is because I used to work as a cashier and had to be very careful to give the correct change or I'd lose my job. Knowing that feeling, I would know how the cashier was feeling and never knowing how important the job is, I'd always give the change back. In fact, I've had this happen and given the change back and I'd do it again.

I have always given it back. Once I cashed a check at my bank and they overpaid me by $100. My husband yelled at me when I gave it back but I have been a teller in a bank and a cashier in a store. If I had been short $100 it would have been a bad thing. I could not do that to someone else and besides, it's not MY money!

I had a cashier overpay me by $5. I looked at her and asked her why she gave me the five. Once it was worked out, before we were even out of earshot my darling 12yo daughter said, "You should have kept it, Mom!" That was even more embarrassing.

Well, that was a great lesson for your daughter but it's less embarrassing than having your grown spouse telling you to keep $100!!

If I was still inside the store I would attempt to give it back, but if I had already gotten outside the store I would keep the extra change. I had both of these happen to me. I was given too much change and tried to tell the cashier and she said it is correct change. Then I did not get my correct change and had not leftt he store and walked back over to the cashier and told her. She said that she did not make mistakes. I let it go.

I count it because I usually get short changed, I think I have been given too much about twice in my lifetime.

This happened to me a couple of days ago. It wasn't much, but I gave it back. I try always to count my change because this happens a lot. I try to be as honest as possible. In some stores the cashier who comes up short has to cover the difference out of his/her own pocket.

This has happened to me before and sometimes yes and sometimes no. It just depends. It has happened to me when I was on my last $2.00 and I really needed it for diapers or groceries so I didn't say anything and was very happy. I always figure when something like that happens it is because God knew I really needed that money in order to provide for my family. On the other hand, sometimes when it is something really extravagant or a lot I think it is a test from God to see how honest I am. It just depends on the situation, but honestly I more than likely just keep the overage. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

IF it was a few cents or a dollar difference I'm not likely to notice but higher amounts I'll say hey you gave me too much...just like if im shorted I'll point out that i was shorted.

Hi there! I will give back the excess change. It always happens to me and I am always being honest. My family has a business and so I wouldn't want that to happen to our business and so I am honest in my dealings with other business establishments. And even if we don't have a business, I will still be honest. Simply because that's the right thing to do. It's also a nice feeling when someones gets to thank you for doing something good. Ciao!

well, i will give it back to them n tell them that they give the extra change... for me, i think, if they accidently give the wrong change, they hv 2 pay back.... somemore, v r buying things, v should pay for it n not to take advantages if they accidently give me extra... I always believe that the world is round, if u treat people like tat, 1 day, sure v hv some1 will treat u like tat too... so, if v b honest n give them back, sure next time the people oso wil treat u like tat.... Well, all tis just my comment..

Are you kidding? Take the money and run! I never tell them. I need the money so I just accept it. It was their mistake, and I'm sorry but I always take it.
