With so many ppl on prescription medicines and so many other ppl doing drugs, it’s bound to happen that someone might try to steal some medicines. Hubby takes some strong pain pills for his disability however we keep them in his desk where he is 90% of the time. From the days of when we were foster parents, I don’t keep any medicines in the bathroom (afterall, most kids that get hooked on prescription drugs get them from the medicine cabinet). I have a few medicines from when I’ve been sick, mostly antibiotics and stuff like that. I did have Oxycotin from when I pulled my back out and my Mom warned me that as soon as I was done taking them for my back that if there were any left I needed to flush them b/c ppl would break into your home to get them around here.
I know a woman that got banned from her friends house b/c she stole their pain pills. She was taking pain pills for a long time and her dr. took her off them and so she stole someone else’s b/c she couldn’t quit taking them.
Do you take strong medications and if so, where do you keep them? Have you ever had any “missing”? If a friend or family member stole some of your meds, would you ban them from your house, lock up the meds or turn them in to the police?

HI twoey; I've often had that same fear because I take so many different forms
of meds that people would literally break into my home if they knew I had them;
and to be honest I'm surprised its not happened considering where I live,
( a really crappy area ), but so far no one has broken in, if they did
it would be a jackpot for them and not so good for me.
several of my prescriptions have a 30 day wait period which is just stupid
when you deal with pain 24/7 you know? that's our idiot government "rules"...
some nimrod sits there and thinks up these things;
its a scary situation because so many of us do have "meds" that people
want and would steal and even kill to get them...

I went on some strong meds. when my son was 16.I was washing
his cloths one day and found one of my pills in his pocket.I
was only keeping them in my room at that time.I started keeping
them in a lock box after that.I found out he had been selling
them at school.I wish I could tell all was o.k. after that,but
it was not.

When I was hurt I had people come right out and ask or tell me a sob story why they needed them. I gave a few away I know I was bad but when they kept coming back wanting more and more I started refusing those people stopped coming to my house because of it. I had a slipped disk was taking Loracets. I was also taking 800 milligrams of Ibuprofen for bad migraines. Nowdays I only take what is needed no more then 400-600 milligrams of Ibuprofen when needed. Somedays I don't even take any.Which is good. I don't have a medicine cabinet now and most my medicine is kept in my bedroom.

I love my Vicodin. It's the only thing that works, I have arthritis in my back and my hips are bad, so again more back pain. When I do get them, I make sure they are on my person all the time. In my back pack or purse and NO ONE knows I am on them or have any available. I had had surgery a while back and an ex who wasn't an ex at that time had gone to get my refills on the pills. He said he lost the empty bottle and the pharmacist said to come back in 24 hours. I said fine, and went to get them and they told me they had already been picked up. I later found out that my insurance just "paid" for him to sell all 90 of those pills for $6.00 a peice. I was ticked!

Hi twoey,
I haven't experienced similar to this..But if ever, I will have a friend like that, I will not ban here from our house, I will just keep all the medicines and tell her that I am aware of what she is doing and I didn't like it..I trust her and that she has to stay away from my pills..LOL!
ANyway, I am not taking any strong pills..Whenever I am sick or having some headache, I prefer not to take any and just rest and take a lot of water!

No, I haven't had an experience like that ,but I have a friend who was addicted to pain medicine ,and it became an obsession. Medicine can also be harmful to your health if you don't set limits. Depending too much on medicine is not the solution. There are other alternatives to pain besides medicine pills.

Hello twoey68. I have had medications missing from me in the past and it outraged me. They weren't really mine but my sons.I have a son that has been diagnosed with ADHD. The medicine prescribed to him is called Adderall. You might have heard of it,as it is popular for the treatment of ADHD. But it is also famous for being abused by people to stay alert and focused.I remember hearing about it on t.v. .There was a show about it on t.v. that told of college kids using it alot to stay awake and alert for studying.
Well, one of my brothers friends stole a bottle off of me. I know it had to be one of them as no one else was in my house. My brother questioned the person whom he thought it was but of course, wouldn't admit it. He no longer talks to this person and I no longer allow any of his friends in my house! I had kept them on top of the fridge before I knew any better.And now to be extra safe they are kept hidden! That is horrible.To take meds from a child, let alone anyone!

If anyone took my meds they'd not be part of my life. That's pretty low!
I think doctors take people off pain meds too soon nowadays because of worries of addiction. They don't think peoples' pain is important, that it hurts badly enough to warrant meds. They are wrong. I think they should stop worrying so much about addiction and start treating the patient like they are family.

Luckily, neither myself or my hubby are on any really strong medication. I do not keep anything that I am not supposed to keep either, with having children I cannot take the risk of them getting hold of left over medicine. I used to have a friend whose brothers used to steal her medications when they came to visit. They were both serious heroin addicts and so would have them either for themselves or to sell for their next fix.

Most of our meds stay in my desk drawers, or on the top of hubby's computer, where a child would have to stand on a chair to reach. None of it is really strong. There are a couple pain pills like lortabs, but nothing major. Really most of it is over the counter stuff like ibuprofen.
