Are all lies bad ?

Is a lie always a lie or is there good reasons to tell a lie ? What about Santa Claus we lie to our children when we convince them this is true , what about when a friend ask you if you like thier hair and telling them the truth is going to help them , or if someone ask you how you are doing and you say fine becasue you don't want them to worry about you ? Is this still considered lying or is there times that one feels it would be ok to lie ? What are your thoughts on telling little white lies !!

Well I think a lie is a lie, but there are good lies and bad lies and some lies if there said to make someone feel better or to spare someones feelings is not so bad, I guess, but hurtful lies or lying to your spouse or lying to keep the truth about misdeed's away from someone or loved ones is never good, and I try not to lie to people especially family.

I heard many times when I was a kid that there's no such thing as a good lie. But I think it's not true at all! For example, should I tell my boyfriend is not good at... some certain things? It would make him said and there's no reason why I shouldn't tell him he's great, to cheer him up. Or when my friend is workign on some drawings - they aren't good, of course, she knows it, but I keep her telling she's getting better and I like this one she made. I think it's better way to keep her improving than telling the truth...

I agree by encouraging your friend some day she may actaully end up drawing something that is beautiful because she has someone encouraging her to do something that she enjoys doing . Thank you for your response .

No, I don't think all lies are bad. They can help you escape from awkward situations, help you into making people think you're right from wrong and many other things.

Hi ya samtaylorskykierajen Darn good point you've got there. I also think that anyone who says they don't lie are lying! I think it is probably hard to get through the week without telling one of those little white lies even though we don't realise we are doing it, like you say, and I have often done it, been asked if I am ok and always say yeah when things are certainly not 100%. I am sure that the person asking the question thinks no more about it than me and would not be crushed if they found out the truth, unless it was a really good friend that I should be confining in!!

I think if you need to tell a lie to save someone elses feelings then it is fine. It's when people tell lies just to get attention, or to hurt someone else that it becomes unacceptable. Santa Claus isn't a lie as such; it's a fantasy that all small children should be allowed to enjoy!

Sometimes, lying to a person is a good thing because it could save their life, or because it could save them from a world of hurt. There are some people, actually, a lot of people in this world who cannot handle the full truth, or any truth at all. One of my friends has really bad Epilepsy, if you tell him or his whole family the truth about his condition, the will not want to hear it because they really do not want to believe that their oldest son has problems because of his Epilepsy. I told my mother's boyfriend's daughter that her son was rambunctious because he was so hyper active (her son has ADHD), but she really did not want to hear it. She knows it, but she would rather not hear it. She knows her son has a lot of problems. Her son has food allergies, ADHD, and color blindness. He is also in special classes because of his problems. She really does not need to keep hearing from the rest of the family that her son has problems. The same thing goes for my boyfriend's sister. My boyfriend's sister has Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, and she really should be put in a home or a rehabiliation center, but if you say that to her mother, she will not want to hear it because she feels that she is the only one who can take care of her child. See, lying is actually something that needs to be done sometimes, or else people can get hurt by listening to the truth.

Hi sam... Little white lies don't bother me..I don't consider Santa Clause a lie....he is a magical part of our imagination...*smiles* When a little white lie turns into a full blown hurtful lie then I get bothered..It is okay to "lie" but not at the expense of another person...

I think that everyone tells the little white lies at times and that sometimes these lies come back and blow up in your face. At these times one has ment well but the lie has been told and people do get hurt.

In my native country there is a famous quote from our religious book saying in Sanskrit language (India's old language in which all religious literature and epics, vedas were written) It says "Priyam bruyat, Satyam bruyat, Na bruyat satyamapriyam' The meaning is 'Tell the truth, Tell good news (the one which is good to hear), but never tell the truth which is not good to hear' The moral of the saying is that always tell truth and always tell the good things to people. But there are bad people in the world, who will misuse the truth and Punish good people by using one side of that truth. We should not open our mouth to tell the truth to a bad man about a good man for a simple mistake he might have done. The book says, to keep quite. Don't tell lie either. All lies are bad, but not all truths are good!

for me, i think a lie is not always a lie... it's ok to lie if it will be for the benefit of people... if you think telling the truth will be a start of a big something, then might consider lying...

i dont think it is okay to lie.. big things start from little things like lying. when you lie with smaller things you will start to lie and do some things related to lying...

i have never told my children their was a santa claus or easter bunny or anything like that. i think i lie is a lie rather you think you are lying to spear someone's feelings. i think anything said with love is heard with love. have i lied before, of course i have. how ever, i am learning when you tell the truth with love in your heart and words, it is heard the same way. even if that truth is hard to take.

Good question. Why hurt someone if a lie would make them feel better? Later on we could talk to the person and explain what was not good. If we say we are fine when we are not, we are just understanding that most people do not want to hear a long story of what is wrong anyway. Discretion is the better part of valor.

in general lying is wrong. but for me, it depends on the situation that you're into. some lies can save your life while there are also lies that wreck havoc in your life. you just choose what that lie that can save you and not affect you in the wrong way.

No, not all lies are bad. But when a lie is going to hurt someone, then yes it is bad. Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, and other made up characters can give a sense of something positive for kids to look forward to, so I see nothing wrong with lying to them about it. Though at the same time if they wanted to know the truth, I feel I should be honest with them. As far as when someone asks "how are you?", it depends on my mood. Sometimes I say good or fine just because I don't want to bother explaining myself, other times I just don't give a damn and say how I feel which usually shocks the person asking. LOL Although I don't like to lie, sometimes it has to be done...

It really depends on what we lie about.Actually there was an incident that happened today morning with my son.As he was making a lille fuss in having his breakfast I just told him a lie saying that papa would take him to ride in motorbike if he finishes his breakfast fast.At teat time my husband was there and then he told me that why I was lying to him and asked me not to lie to him becoz he would be upset if he wouldnt get the ride in the bike. Regards
