OK, so this is something strange.......

Well I think so anyway, a strange coincidence or just something weird going on....
Let me explain, don't worry it is not one of my long winded discussions where it takes me ten paragraphs to get to the point. Probably about half of that!
OK so my son just came to me downstairs with his mobile phone (the 16 yr old). He said "there is a man on my phone asking to speak to you" I said "how can he be wanting to speak to me on your phone, I have never given anyone your number" He said "I don't know but he asked to speak to you by name". I refused to take the call and my son just hung the phone up.
Well it rung again and this time my hubby answered it, the man asked to speak to me again and my hubby asked who he was. The guy told him his name and my hubby asked him what he wanted to speak to me about, and the guy said that he had met me in a supermarket and that I had done some photos for his friends (taken them that is, not posed for) and he wanted me to do the photos for him of a wedding. My hubby asked the guy what supermarket it was, and the guy said "Sainsburys" Well I dont even shop in sainsburys, there is not even one near us! My hubby told the guy that I am not a photographer and that there is no way it could be me he is thinking of and with that the call ended.
But, he has been constantly phoning my son's phone!!
So it is either just one of those weird coincidences or something strange is going on! What do you think of that?
Have you ever had anything weird like this happen to you?

it is rather strange that theman would request you by name. did he use first AND last name? cause maybe hes looking for someone that just has yer first name that used to have the number of yer sons cell? does the guys number come up on yer sons cell when he calls? i dunno.. if it continues to the point of harrassments.. report it *nod*

No it was first name which is why i figure coincidence. But it just goes to show that coincidences happen, and I am only glad that it was over work and nothing personal, can you imagine the trouble it could have caused me! Yes the number does come up on the phone.

write the number, and the name if it also appears, down and save it. just on the off chance this guy steps over lines of appropriateness. and no.. there are no coincidences, you just might not know the meaning of it all.. but everything means something, to someone, somewhere

This might sound strange but I actually said to my hubby that it could be a message to me for something, but not sure what it could be. I have recently taken an interest in photography but not to any major extent because I figured I needed a better camera. But I just thought it weird.

That is very strange...I would be cautious as it sounds like you are being stalked...fancy being contacted via your son's phone...that's the weird part. Does someone you know have access to your son's phone to have gotten the number?
I would be having a friendly chat with a local police officer...they might be able to ask the right questions and figure this out for you....by now, (I'm behind in responding) you might even have solved the puzzle...take care my friend.

Oh dont worry about being behind, I love to see everyone no matter how far behind they are! The phone calls stopped after a while, he probably realised he had been dialling the wrong number!

Hi gemini,
wow..indeed strange..maybe someone who is your secret admirer? ANyway, I wonder where he got your number!
I have unknown callers in the past but it's all wrong number after all! I haven't tried anyone stalking!
If your hubby told him already that you're not a photographer and still continue to contact you, he must have another intention! Just be very careful and take care a lot!

ohhh....that is good! I was thinking he keeps on disturbing! ANyway, that happens a lot! I remember when I asked my student her number and accidentally I pressed 9 instead of 6 to complete the number and when I ring it, It was a huge voice...I was startled and then story starts..I met a new friend long distance...LOL!

He had obviously been given a number that was similar to my sons, but with me having the same first name he may have thought that he had the person he wanted. He has stoppped ringing now anyway!

Well, I won't suggest that anything fishy could on in here. But if he's still ringing constantly, you might want to suggest the number to network. If he's disturbing you just for that...I mean, your son for that, you can definitely block the number, right? Well, about the issue, you must not have met any one whose photos you have done in any super market, right? Well, then, you must talk to the guy who calls, all by yourself. May be you would get the matter. Its no harm if you ge ton the call, right? He can't do anything else except talk, right? But you might get the real matter outta him if you talk to him directly. It might just be co incidence-
1. Its not your own phone, its your son's, and you said youu never give away your son's phone number to anyone.
2. You never shopped in Sainsburys.
3. you never did any photos for anyone in supermarket
4. you don't know the guy.
Maybe the guy would have got a wrong number or he might have been in any kinda wrong impression. You never know what the real issue is unless you talk. And you can defintely tell him straight away to not call further more or you could do anyting, possibly, report him to police, etc... if he keeps on disturbing. But you must do it, since he wants you....
by the way, don't think of doing photos at his wedding unless you know the whole thing clearly. Something can be fishy which we might not know...
anyways, good luck and happy mylotting

That is a really big coincidence, especially as he asked for you by name!! Have you tried calling the number back to see how he answers the phone, or does he call from a private number? don't know what is going on there - you'll have to let us know if you ever get to the bottom of it! I used to have a woman who would ring me daily and accuse me of having an affair with her husband (when i asked his name it's not somebody i have ever heard of - and i would never do that anyway!!) she had obviously got the wrong person but she wasn't going to be convinced otherwise so i had to stop answering the phone to private numbers for a while!! xxx

Well after frantically ringing non stop for a while, it stopped as suddenly as it started. Hopefully he realised he was ringing the wrong number. That is pretty horrible, being accused of an affair you were not having!

Well at least he stopped!! i wonder why someone would be so desperate for a photographer as to keep ringing even after being told they had he wrong number - very odd!! Yeah it wasn't very nice, no matter what i said she just wouldn't believe me, she must have either got bored or found the real person who was going behind her back with her husband - either way i was glad when she stopped!! xxx

Is your son's phone bill in your name? If so then the guy could have gotten your number from a mailing list of some sort. Or maybe one of his friends are crank calling you? Either way, I would contact the police if it doesn't stop.

Hey,
This is pretty freaky, especially since he keeps calling. If he keeps doing it I would change my number and contact the police. I thought at first he may know you as you do like photography. You think after speaking to your hubby on your phone that he would have backed off, but he still hasn't. I wonder how he got your sons number? Keep me updated, hope he stops soon, otherwise take action.

That is weird. Does his number or name come up on the caller I.D. on your son's phone? You might make your phone company aware of it. You have already told this man that you aren't who he thinks you are and that you are obviously not interested in speaking to him, perhaps the next time he calls, tell him he is crossing some stalker like lines or becoming a nuisance. Maybe tell him he is bordering on harassment and tell him if he continues to call, you will get the police involved.
I haven't had anything like that happen to me. I have had telemarketers bug me. But, nothing like what you are having happen.

Yes the number came up, I really do not know how come it happened but he has stopped phoning now. I just found the whole thing very bizarre, the same first name as me and then going on about photography, it just seemed weird.

It's probally just coincidence since the only thing you have in common with the person is the first name. The fact that the person that he is looking for happens to have your first name may make him think that its the right number, especially since only guys have answered the phone. That may be why is he is still calling, thinking that its the right number but maybe a jealous husband or bf answering. Since he is looking for a service he may be trying to get the "actual" person. Maybe if he calls back just let him know that you are not the "Jane Doe" he is looking for and that will probally end it.

Never had it happen but I do know that alot of cell phone companies have a thing on their website where you can manage your account, all numbers. They have a place where you can block certain numbers. I would look into doing that before changing numbers because it is such a pain to redistribute your phone number.

I think this does not look good, it was possible he could have been mistaken the first time but after your husband set him straight there was no reason for him to call back.

I would be rather worried how did he manage to get yours sons cell phone number. Is it just a co-incidence? Is this another disguised salesmen trying to sell you pots or encyclopedias? The only time that this happened to me was a person calling me from an insurance company trying to sell me one of his packages.

gemini_rose,
I am for the idea that your son's mobile number to be somewhat similarly close to that of that professional photographer. You know how ever self assuming some humans are who will just skim through and never bother to check when otherwise.
What's more it could be their redundancy for the repeated rings and that bad accomplice of theirs called "Redial Button" on their phones. That they just do not bother to recheck and or redial manually. This is what I had encountered with previously except my number was mistaken for a lady. You could imagine that ranting over at the other end about me taking the lady's cell phone. Huh!

Yes I think that is probably the case, the number was similar and he dialled it wrong, it is just strong coincidence that the woman he wanted had the same first name!

And now that 6 months have passed since you posted this discussion, I am sure the calls
have stopped and maybe you even found out why they were happening in the first place.
Was it just a prankster or one of your son's friends?
Or the person could have been given the wrong number when he met this other person in
the store. Or it could be a scam somehow. It could be a number of things, but I am sure,
like I said above, that it has stopped by now.
I get some weird phones calls on my cell too, and the thing I don't like about it is
that it costs me air time.

It sounds like one of the cold calling techniques that they keep using nowadays lol and when they realised that it was a minor on the end of the telephone then they needed to speak to an adult, the quickest way?to get the parents to the phone. One of the major banks has recently been fined quite an amount for cold calling via computers, and then so many calls are answered and so many are left unanswered,so people think that they have a hoax caller.Just put it down to one of those unusual experiences Rose, and worry not.
