Do you have the habit to make dog's ear in the books?

I am asking it because I lent a book to a friend and when it return I noticed many dog's ears in it. I hate it. Why don't put some paper to mark the page? so I want to know if you have the same habit or you care about your books and use a bookmarker?

Hi Teka, I use a paper clip if I have one to mark my place. It will not come out so easily and it does not ruin the pages. If I can't find one I put a piece of paper or something else in between the pages. Happy MyLotting...

I would never dog ear a book that belonged to someone else, but I do it to mine all the time. I also underline and make notes in the margins. A lot of my books are nonfiction, and I use them for research. Dog ears on the pages that have information I'm going to want to go back to,give me a good idea where to find it instead of having to thumb through page after page.

i used to-but only on non-valuable books like paperbacks. i try not to at all now though,it wrecks the page after awhile.i can always find a piece of paper or something to hold the place.

No! Never! If I can't find my bookmark, I use a paper clip or even a piece of paper. As a child, I thought books were living things, and I didn't want to hurt them. They provided too much joy. Now I respect their integrity and I don't want to damage them.

I am not doing such a cruel thing to books! I enjoy reading books a like them, but never ruin them! I don't make EVERYTHING to protect books like I'm not giving them second cover, but if I can avoid it - I'm doing it.

Many years ago I did this and as the books got older I found that the page would tear along that line and would mess up that page, losing that corner. Making that page look awful and distroying the book. So I starting using page markers, thus no longer ruining my books.

I think dog earring a book is book abuse. If i loan my books out, the borrower is under strict orders not to do it. Use a book marker, or what ever is handy to mark your page.

Teka, that's really 'mistreating' the book - I won't be happy if someone returned a book to me in that condition. Neither would I do that to books belonging to others. I either use bookmarks, note-paper, business cards, post-its or any piece of paper available to mark a page!

You have a new word friend in which you called it dog ear and I was really thinking on what you mean and just now I got it it is when you fold the end of the book as a book mark that you call it as a dog ear and in my way I always make a marker on my book and put it in place of the pages of the book so that it would be easy to take it if I need it.....

Hi Teka, I have never made a dog ear in any of the books that I have read, be it mine or of someone else. I personally dislike anyone who treats a book in this way, because it means that we are not showing any respect towards the book. I would pick up any piece of paper available handy to be used as a bookmark, but never ever a DOG EAR..................
