Should government be able to make/enforce policies on number of kids you have?

First of all, do you agree with this? Why? If you live in a country with a policy like this, do you think they have the right to do this? I live in the US and we don't have any policy like this. I would be irritated and even ashamed of my country were it to do something like this. I feel that choosing to have kids is a personal choice, whether you decide to have none, one, three, or fifteen. I do not feel it is anybody else's business, nor is it in any way, shape, or form anything the government should touch with a 10 foot pole. What say you?

Thank you. I hear things about this all the time, not only government but OTHER people being nosy and having their two cents about how many kids other people choose to have. I don't understand why everybody thinks they can make decisions for others, and the government ought to butt out as well. They can make sweeping policies about things which are not personal but something like this is indeed infringing on our rights.
I will admit that it's not WISE to have kids that you cannot support on your own but it still isn't my business (or the government's) to tell someone they aren't allowed to be stupid lol.

Hey there mommyboo! Haven't seen you much lately! Missed you!
Ok, No! I don't believe it's any of their damn business
how many kids someone wants to have! What the hell gives
them the right to decide? I think they do that in China or
Japan, Oh I forget. Somewhere where it's overpopulated.
But, who the hell asked them to? And why to the people
let the government control them that way? You know that the
United States would never get away with that sort of crap!
I guess the people in those countries don't seem to mind
because they don't leave and they go along with it! I
for one don't understand how they could!

No kidding, me either. I get steamed up and angry just thinking about people who sit there and just let the government and others steamroll right over them, make decisions for them, take their choices away, and they don't care! I think there is something wrong with people who are like that. Sure, maybe it makes their lives easier in the short term because it removes conflict, but after awhile it has also taken away many important things, shortened your horizons, shoved you into a little box. I'd rather have some conflict in my life and enjoy my life rather than just do what others say or think I should and have something bland and meaningless.
The government should never be involved in personal choices or decisions. All they are supposed to do is take care of the big stuff, keep terrorists and evil folks away from us, make sure the economy doesn't collapse, and deal with all the foreign policy things that no sane normal citizen would want to have to deal with. They should also make sure that the citizens of the country have what they need to survive - like reasonably priced food and shelter, transportation, education, medical care, and jobs. If they'd focus on that instead of making our decisions for us (when we did not ASK for that degree of interest!) things would be a lot better right now.
Actually some people do leave, that is one reason the US has so many illegal immigrants lol. I can understand them trying to get away, what I don't understand is why they can't just do it legally. It is not that much harder!

I do not think it is ok for the government to be involved in these kind of decisions for families.

I think they have that kind of policy in Japan, or something like that. Anyways, I really wanted that to happen. I don't know, maybe it's because that's one of the things here in the Philippines that needs attention too. And that's because most of the time those kid-making machines are in the deepest state of poverty. Think about that. I know I know, it's not the government's thing to do. Anyways if I'm a millionaire I might as well have 9 children, because 9 is our favorite number. If the government were to do something like that, of course I might get angry because it's kind of personal, but then if it is for the sake of the people themselves, then no worries.
I'm not really pointing that I agree with this, it's just that if it is needed for population decrease, then it is a much better policy than having a killing spree or something like that. But then the strict enforcement of having this many child, I don't agree with that. Like if you have 3 children and the law only states you have two, and then they will take away the third child, I don't agree with that. I'll agree with something like...uhmm..family planning project, one that which is always opposed by the church here in the Philippines with reasons I don't quite understand.
Yeah, I'm at my 50-50 myself. I can agree, but then I won't agree if it will not really affect the current state of the nation.

Well, maybe something else can be put in place to discourage people who cannot support themselves from having kids - but I do not think that limiting and ENFORCING the number or kids is fair. If someone can support themselves and their offspring on their own, I do not think anybody else should be allowed to say a single word about it. Now if the person or couple is dependent on someone else or the government or they cannot even support themselves, THEN it would make sense to tell them they can only have one or two kids. I am basically saying it is not fair to make a blanket policy. A policy dependent on the situation I can see - but that's because someone wise is not going to have kids they cannot afford and/or support. It is not fair to discriminate against somebody who is handling their life just fine. If government is going to be in the business of preventing people from being a danger to themselves, fine, but don't get in the way of people who are NOT a danger to themselves, know what I mean?

I agree totally with you.I do not feel like it should be up to anyone but, yourself and God on how many kids you can have. Some people love having big families and it is not in there religion to use birth control.I just think that it would be ridiculous for a goverment to do that.

Some places do that though! I believe in Japan and maybe China they have a policy, and I saw another discussion today from someone located in the Philippines mentioning their government might make a 'two child' policy. What is going on here?? Government should NEVER EVER be allowed to have or gain power like that. I don't see why the citizens of those countries do not overthrow their government for suggesting or trying to enforce something like this!!
If you happen to live in one of those countries - please respond and tell me what you think. Why are you just standing idly by? Doesn't it make you sick? It makes me sick!
