Some companies do not allow bringing food and eating lunch in the workplace and some allow employees to sit down and eat as a group during lunch to encourage collaboration and boosts morale.
Do you usually eat in the office or your desk or go out for lunch?
Do you find that you’re more productive if you eat with officemates?

It depends on each one. I would love to sit with all my colleagues and laugh away all the tensions. I feel it will bring each one of us closer together. This makes the work place must more nicer.

well, i usually eat at the office cafeteria. we have a pantry for those who would bring in their lunches. i want to bring my own food but i cant prepare it at home, so it's always easier to buy it from the cafeteria!hehe well, my officemates eat there too so i always go out and eat with them during lunch!

Yes we do bring our own food and eat lunch together in the workplace. Even our Big Boss brings her own lunch and she eats with all of us everyday. We have a separate kitchen in our office and we have one big table where we all eat together. We enjoy sharing our food with each other and sharing stories at well during the lunch break. It encourages closeness among us.

probably what the companies wants is that not to let the food stain the carpets or there would be a smell in the office after food is being brought in. Normally, if you go out and eat as a group normally you would get to know one another better. Therefore when there is a group meeting it is easier to cooperate.

When at my office job we eat at our desks as we get no lunch break. Barbaric I think but none the less we eat at our desks and often share our meals. Sometimes we order takeout and send the one with least seniority out to get it. I think it is fun to plan special meals with my coworkers.

There is a break room where I work that has a fridge, sink, microwave, counters and cupboards. So I usually take food for lunch as I usually don't get time to get to the cafeteria before it closes. At times its nice to eat with co-workers for socializing, other times I just like to be by myself for a few minutes. The break room is nice as you can get away from the workplace or workstation to clear your mind and lower stress for 30 minutes.

Hi there!
I am currently unemployed but I want to share my views on this topic. Personally I think its more productive if we eat lunch together with our officemates. By eating together we get to bond with other employees and that will be a benefit in terms of working relations with co-workers. it will also benefit employees to save money from buying lunch food. It is less expensive if we bring packed lunch and sometimes share it co-workers.
Ciao!

I work at a big corporation in the Denver area and I have always brought my lunch. I see alot of people go out to lunch when execs come in from out of town but for the most part you see people eating at their desks or their offices. I don't think it's that big of a deal for the corporation because they would rather have you here to help out. I pack my lunch mostly so i can save money.

I am serving my internship at the moment, and my company requires at least 1 person to stay in the office throughout the working time (9am to 6pm), to pick up the phone calls, if any. Our break time is between 12pm to 2pm (any 1 hour) and we often take turns to buy food up to the office and eat together. That's what happened for the past 3 weeks or so that I've been in the company.

I bring my lunch everyday because my Mom insists so! LOL! The truth is I love bringing my own lunch at work so i can save money and my Mom cooks really good. The company I worked for provides this place (a pantry) where we can eat our lunch and of course enhance our camaraderie. But there's a cafeteria in the building as well for this purpose. If my officemates would decide to go there and eat, I'll be bringing my lunch with me. I like eating with my officemates. I'm alone in my cubicle for hours, which I don't mind since I'm absorbed with work. Lunchtime is our time to catch up with each other's personal lives as well as the "what's going on" and the "what's new" in the office.

I am really lucky as we have a free canteen which does sandwiches, soups etc.....what a way to save money!! Theres about 5 people in our department and we all go for lunch together, it's nice to have a chat about things that aren't related to work and out of the office atmosphere.

I carry lunch to office daily mainly because there are no good eateries nearby and the office doesn’t have a canteen. We all sit together in groups and it’s a rest for the brain really. While I wouldn’t say that I become more productive because of this, it certainly helps colleagues to bond together. Its also the time when many of us can unwind and pour out our personal grievances to each other and look for some succour.

It is not always that productive. Sometimes after a hectic morning you just want to clear your mind and have a short break from the office intrigues.
You cannot do this if you're surrounded by colleagues and although they are on a break it is inevitable that the only topic of conversation will be work-related.

Since the day that I started to work, my mother always packed me a lunch until now.. Our office allow us to bring our foods inside the office as long as we clean or dirt.. Well, the reasons why I packed lunch is because my mother is scared that I might not eat lunch since she knows that when I was in College I don't usually eat lunch because of so many works to do.. And another thing is I'm choose the food that I eat since I easily get allergy or diarrhea .. Sometimes it is with oil or some ingredients they put in the food.. And I also have an ulcer so I really need to be careful with the foods that I eat..

Sometimes I go out eat with colleagues but sometimes I would prefer eat alone on my desk. I think it's the same thing to eat with office mates or eat alone on desk. When problem happens,no one will help you even your very close office mates. I think it's nothing relevant with productivity, but rather gossips about so and so. Lol.

My hubby sometimes ask me to prepare a lunch for him, not that he wants to eat with his officemate but rather to save some, because it is cheaper to bring lunch than buy on the food establishments, and of course it is tastier too
