How Often Do You Cut Your Hair?

My stylist always tells me to get a trip every month in order to prevent split ends. But with the price of a haircut increasing each time I go for a visit, it doesn't seem very economical to get a trim as often as I want anymore. I have my hair cut at least twice a year. And once a year I always have a general hair day where I have my hair cut, styled, and colored. I even go for a treatment if I can afford it. How about you? How often do you get a hair cut?

i used to cut my hair once a hear when i was in high school, but recently, its been over 3 years since i went to a salon to cut it. the last cut i had was me snipping the edges off from my hair so it can stay slightly healthy. my hair is pretty long now. i've never had anything other then a cut, no special treatment. i've done small natural treatment like lightening my hair with lemon juice. right now, i just don't think i can afford a hair cut, and i'm also growing it out so i can donate to locks of love.

that's really great. I wanted to donate my hair as well but the stylist told me that there was a minimum measurement. It was around 8 inches if I remember correctly. I wanted others to benefit from my hair but had I cut off 8 inches back then I would be bald by now!

Im not really that meticulous when it comes to pampering myself. Just give me lots of sweets and lots of time to sleep and Im good. Of course the mandatory shampoo, soap, scrub, and using other hygiene products are put into practice. Anyway, since you were specifically talking about hair, I only have a hot oil treatment when I feel that my hair is too dried out for comfort. I dont get a trim or dont cut it in under a 5-6 months. Just let it grow out and would get a trip to the salon only during sem breaks and summer. I get it relaxed when its getting to be unruly or a bit unmanageable. I try to hold it off as long as I can since my scalp is pretty sensitive that it would easily burn because of the chemicals.

Oh that's funny!! We're both sweet tooths! I agree, some products can easily irritate your scalp especially the hair dyes!!!

Once a month is a bit too much if you ask me. I think once every 3-4 months is plenty for a trim. You are right about the prices. They are crazy! At $45 a whop (average in my city), you can't afford to go every month unless you make mega bucks! I feel for families with several children, that's a big bill to foot.

Well if I had a big family and couldn't afford the salon bill, I'll just ask the boys to shave their head and the girls to wear braids. :)

I cut the hair in my family. It all began with my hubby needing hair cuts every other week. The cost added up to fast and we could not afford it. I bought clippers and began cutting his hair and it all rolled from there. A lot of time I cut my own hair unless it is short. If I cut my hair shorter then my shoulders then I go to my neighbors and she helps me out. I am to cheap to pay $50 for a hair cut when it just grows back.

That's really smart. I'm not good at cutting hair. I used to practice on my Barbie dolls, which is why all of them have short hair. I hope I'll never have to cut my own hair someday. I guess I just need to earn more money in order to afford a trip to the salon.

I always cut my hairs once a month...i think its good even though if you feel tha hairs need not to be cut. It avoids to make dandruf to your hairs and you can easily wash hairs daily. Good to cut once a month.

Oh really? Didn't know that cutting hair can help prevent dandruff. How is this linked?

I tend to visit my hairdresser every six weeks or so to get my roots re-dyed and the split ends chopped off. The good thing is because my hair dresser works from home she doesn't charge extortionate fees. For a cut, colour and style would normally set me back about £28 whereas in a salon it would cost something nearer the £60 mark or in some cases even more.

Wow you're really lucky then! I don't know anyone who works from home. I think I can ask my stylist to just do a house call and earn a bigger tip but that would be unfair towards the owner of the salon.

I usually cut my here once in a quarter i.e. once in three months. These are done during the quarters when ever there is a need i.e. if I have to appear in a function or any other celebration etc.

Getting a haircut when there's a party is the smartest timing ever. I try to do it sometimes so that they'll blow dry my hair for free but sometimes I'm just so busy that I can't make time for a visit to the salon.

I only get mine trimmed once or twice a year. But I do trim my own bangs to keep them out of my eyes. Like you, I don't like the high cost of hair cuts. And since I'm trying to grow my hair out long anyway, it wouldn't make sense to keep cutting it. I'm due for a trim now. And I've been trying to decide if I should just get the ends trimmed, or have several inches taken off since its gotten so heavy. I'll probably just go for the trim since I've been trying for awhile to get it long.

I always end up chopping off more inches than I want when I go to the salon. The stylist talks me into getting a shorter do, and I want to make the most of what I'm paying for. If I'm paying the same rate for a trim and for a new hair cut, then I might as well get the latter right? But I also cut my own bangs at home. I'm not very good at it though because my mom and the stylist always notices. But again, I don't want to pay them for cutting off a few millimeters of my bangs! I think they should just do it for free...

I have not been in a salon for years; I really don't see it necessary. Now if I want a large cut I would go to the salon, but I trim my own hair and do all of its care, if I can do it myself why spend the money to drive out there and have someone cut your hair. ANother thing about salons, they never know how to cut my wavy hair, it's really annoying- If they cut it while it's straight, it will only be even when it is straight, or if they cut it when it's curly it will be really uneven when I want to straighten it, but I always get it just right even though I am not a professional, I suppose I know myself better than anyone else.

I agree sugarplum. I have not been to a salon in about 11 years. I find that i know my hair better than anyone else. I also know what i want better then anyone else. I can remember going into a salon and telling the hairdresser what i want and i end up leaving pissed off cause paid money and i didnt get what i wanted. If i want a trim i do it myself, if i want a major cut ill do that to. I self relax my own hair and have been doing so for about 10 years w/o any problems. I have never dyed my hair but if i ever decided to, i would do that my self as well. If my hair is gonna be F#&%@ED up then i would rather not have paid someone else money for it.

I haven't had a haircut for the past 4 months and I'm trying to avoid it - I cut my hair really short in June (that's when my profile pic was taken) and I'm trying to grow it back because I missed it :) Monthly haircut seems pretty expensive if you're going to a salon every time. Thanks for the response on my discussion!

I cut my hair every month .I am a man who likes to keep my hair low and I basically keep it at the same style low .I dont colour my hair .I dont think I have split ends but then I have never really checked. It isnt very economical but if I dont do that then my hair is going to get very matty and difficult to comb once it grows above a certain height

How often? It's been at least a year that i haven't cut my hair because my hair grows very slowly and i've been keeping hair for over one year. My current goal is to save it long enough to tie a straight ponytail.

Hi! My hair takes a long time to grow, so I just have a haircut and a hairstyle once a year. I would have my hair permed most of the time because for me, it's easier to manage. I don't have to comb it, just a touch of mousse, and I'm good to go. Aside from that, permed style suits me because my hair is thin. The perm gives more body to my hair. Here in the States, I wash my hair at night because the weather is cold and I usually develop colds when I go out with my hair wet. I refuse to blow dry because I don't want dry hair with split ends. Happy myLotting, friend!

I do not like to have long hair. I sweat a lot which causes a lot irritation if I have long hair. So take care and cut my hair very regularly. I go for a hair cut every fortnightly. And trim to the minimum. Hair cutting charges in India are nominal and are affordable enough. bourne

I have a very short hair so it will not be a problem with me having it cut or trimmed often. But of course, I have to keep it groomed and I have to visit my barber at least once in two months. But my wife and our daughters, I want them to have a nice looking long hair and they have theirs trimmed at least twice a year.

I go to our local barber shop every month or every one and a half month. I don't go to salons because it is expensive in there. I am contented with having my hair cut the same way over and over. And I tend to grow my hair as long as it is manageable and have it cut short to save. Have a nice day!

I want my hair a little bit longer, so I only have my hair cut at least two to three times a year. And also once a year I always have my hot oil treatment.
