why orkut mostly used in Brazil and India?

Well i think i can guess the reason mostly european countries and US community is using facebook... orkut is a social site similar to facebook... and facebook is not that much used in India [dont know about brazil] as us community prefer facebook, and their friends can be found there...Indian join communities in orkut for the same reason as most of their friends are there.. I can tell you why an Indian joins Orkut.. "For finding old friends and college friends, whose contact is not with a person" the best way for that is, join a community which is of your college where you studied.. so if everyone joins that community, he comes in contact with old friends whome he was searching for longtime.

Not known, but may be more people in India are usually interesting in social networking, especially for business and contacts with people abroad.

Orkut is very easy to pronounce in Portuguese. Try telling someone from Brazil to go to Friendster.com or MySpace. The names of those sites are lost in translation. When someone pronounces “Orkut” in Portuguese (especially Brazilian Portuguese with the heavy incluence on the “ch” T sound), they can easily spell it, visualize the word and remember it next time they get infront of the computer. may be this is the erason why orkut is famous and popular in brazil.

Like others said facebook and myspace is too dominant in the european and north american countries but in India especially orkut is a first hand experience for people. So they tend to explore about it more and more. many people are persuaded by their friends or relatives to come to orkut so as to remain in contact and in India these trends are new. Even media has a large impact on people coming to orkut because orkut was somewhat spread across all news channels in india some time ago........ Cannot say anything about Brazil....

yes you are right orkut is the best social networking site in india.facebook and myspace is rarely used in india. the most common reason might be the lack of indian users in myspace and face book and almost all are in orkut. initially a group might join orkut and friends of them also might joined.so they popularity of orkut in india increased and nw there is large number of indians in it .so wheneevr an indian thinks to join a social networking site they will prefer orkut as their friends are there and they cant find them in facebook and myspace.

I don't know why initially people from India joined Orkut. But now all newbies are choosing Orkut because almost all their school friends, relatives are there in Orkut. Of course, when I visited myspace and facebook, these two sites are dominated by europeans.

I have often wondered that myself . I have a Orkut page but I never hardly log-in to that page( I live in the United States). I use Myspace and myLot more, oh yeah, and sometimes Facebook. I find it hard sometimes to keep up with all the social networks I'm a member of, but myLot is currently my favorite and Myspace seems to annoy me a lot sometimes because a lot of the people on there seem so fake sometimes and they are always trying to sell you something.Mind you, not everyone is like that but it seems like I always have people requesting my friends ship because they want to promote something.
