Budget cuts in our state

I just heard on a news bulletin on tv, that our state has done their budget cuts to help balance the budget. They are cutting help to the MRDD by 12 million, elderly and medications, was like 7 million. Why do they always target the ones that cannot help themselves? This was something that was going on before the market crashed. Having a son that has Cerebral Palsy, I wonder how much we will be affected. I figure more cuts will come because of the markets falling too. This is in Ohio. Are other states making such drastic cuts?

I'm not sure. They just approved an 800 billion bail out, they are cutting? hmmmm, I am sorry. You certainly don't deserve cuts.

It has nothing to do with the bail out. It was put on the chopping block before all this happened. The new cuts were just turned in. They are just to balance things out at this point.

cuts go on all over the place all the time, it is disgusting, there is always money for war or space or whatever the government wants to do but never even for the people back home.

That's a darned good question you bring up: why do they target those who cannot help themselves?! The one thing that ticks me off royally is that they can vote themselves raises to make themselves richer, while taking away more from those who can least afford it! I hadn't heard about the budget cuts...I'm guilty of not watching the news for a while, and I don't get the paper anymore. I sure hope it doesn't affect your family too greatly. It's getting harder and harder I'm sure. I heard once that the gap in middle class is growing by leaps and bounds. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer, and the middle class is spiraling down too. Makes you wonder what kind of idiots we have running our country anymore.

I am sure if they tried they could have found lots of areas to cut that would not have been so dramatic. We could start with some of their expense accounts. I don't know what the answer is, I just think we are in deep trouble.

Personally, what continues to frustrate me about this whole deal, is they usually cut the ones who need it the most first, and then just continue to give it out to others who in reality I feel are just lazy and have nothing really wrong with them. Look at Medical and Social Security, and these are people who worked to get it. It is totally sad the way they work things, and feel it is time for something drastic to be done before 2014 when the New Health care bill kicks in.

Its totaly wrong for them to target the ones that cannot help themselves. I have eoften been shocked and disappointed by these types of decisions. Its as shocking as people who are really ill having to fight so hard for disabilty. These are the areas they need reform in first. What are they thinking?

I think with the way the economy is, all states are going to have their share of drastic budget cuts...so far the talk here in NY is the budget for firemen, police and the education systems. Haven't heard about any other cuts, but just betting the next big budget cuts will be geared for the hospitals...they're are understaffed and underpaid as it is

I am sorry to hear that about your state. I haven't heard anything from mine yet. But I think the governor here would do the same thing in the nearby future. It's already bad as it is.. we can't afford more cuts. But... the citizen doesn't matter do they? The government should stop giving aids to Iran, Iraq or whoever... and start helping us. Us. Us. Us. History show that rulers who doesn't care about the people and try to solve the crisis within the country first will lose his country. Sooner or later, we have have another civil war. =(
Welcome to the Great Depression number 2.

Yes in CA they are making so many cuts and adding more costs to all. Our budget just got signed last week. A lot of clinics where closed that cared for the poor and working poor. My friend who is on a life saving medication and public assistance could not get her medication. A lot of poor could not get there anti seizure medications nor could they get their insulin. Day cares that are paid for by the state where closed so a lot of people had to quit work because no day care.
Our Terminator governor wants to balance the budget at the cost of the working class and working poor. When the budget was not signed he told all state workers they where to go down to minimum wage. $6.50 per hour. Which is the lower than the state minimum wage.
I just feel he should have taken away from the people who where singing the budget and not the people of CA.

I didn't hear that and I'm in Ohio. That a stupid way to save money. What about other programs like maintaining state golf courses or the information places at rest areas? Not necessary, just convenient. That money could help a lot of disadvantaged folk. Every state wastes so much money on crap, and so does the gov't. If they ran their budgets like we ran ours, the gov't would be in good shape.
