The daily mail newspaper online reports that “Tributes have been paid to a woman killed by a passing car after trying to save an injured dog lying in the road. Emma Cragen, 21, tried to rescue the helpless dog after the car she was a passenger in ran over it.” If you hit or see an animal in the road, would you stop to help the injured animal in the road?

If it was a sideroad without much traffic I would try to help, although I really wouldn't know what to do to help. Busy highways or high traffic areas I honestly don't know what I would do. I wouldn't want to hold up traffic or risk getting hurt myself. I suppose I would try to pull over and see if there's something I could do... that's a tough question!

That is so terrible!! I feel for this woman and her family because yes, I would defeniatly get out of my car to help and injured animal. In fact, not too long ago I got out of my road to help an injured rabbit I saw trying to climb a curb with 2 broken bag legs (possibily a hurt spine). But, not to be disrespectful to this woman, I did it smartly (i don't know facts, and i don't think woman was stupid). But I waited to even approach the rabbit until I saw that I had a lot of time before anymore cars would reach where we were. Then I hurried up to it, it of course retreated right into the street--but I had time so I swooped it up in my sweater and took it home. But I would do this again for any hurt animal I see; even if I know that ir probably won't live from it's injuries--it could have a lot of time left to just die and suffer...so I would gladly rather take it to a vet to be euthanized then lay on a scary street or sidewalk; alone, scared and in pain.

That is indeed a very sad and tragic event. I would certainly stop if I hit or saw and injured animal on the side of the road but only if it was safe to do so. I wouldn't touch the animal as there is always a chance that I could be bitten so I would rather flag down other motorists who might be able to handle the situation. In any event, I would always phone the gardai (police) and inform them of the incident or I would drive to the nearest garda station and let them know about the animal. And after all that, if the animal was running loose, and my car had been damaged, then I would find the owner of the animal and sue them for repairs to my car. People should learn to take care of their pets instead of letting them run loose and cause such tragic accidents.

Yes, I would. I should say I wouldn't because I have 11 children to take care of, but I would.

oh dear this is such a sad story. she is trying to help but got killed instead. if i ever ran over an animal, i'll definitely stop and help. if i didn't, i don't think i can ever sleep peacefully. if i see an injured animal along the road, i'll try to stop safely and provide help too. imagine it is me injured and lying by the road, i sure hope someone will stop and help me. cheers ;p

That is very sad that she got killed by a passing car when she stopped to save a injured dog lying in the road after the car she was riding in ran over it,I applaud her for stopping, and I think if I saw an injured dog in the road especially one I hit I would definitely stop and try to help it,because it would be the right thing to do,and if I could not do anything for it,I would take it to the nearest pet hospital and hope that they could help it.

that's a shame.there probably wasn't anything she could have done to start with, bless her heart. i think it would depend on the circumstances wheter i stopped or not. if it ws a good place to pull over etc.

yes i would stop to help. people should start caring about the things that are around them. dogs, cats any animals, also the tress, flowers, and everything that belongs in this world before we got here. people don`t seem to care for anything but the greed for money.

That is so sad to know! I'm definitely an animal lover (especially cats!) and would definitely stop for an injured animal and try to get help for it and take it to the vet. I have no respect for people who turn a blind eye to such situaions in life. Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

I think it is very rare kind of person because if it would risk my own life by saving the dog's life I will not do it anyway unless if it is safe enough to tackle the situation then I would......

If it's in a interstate road I don't think I would do it. Drivers are really crazy on the interstate. I would feel bad for the injured animals though.

Of course I would! It is a shame that someone hit this poor lady when she was trying to help the dog when it was hit. People are so careless and in such a hurry. It's like an extra 5 or 10 minutes would kill them to get some place a little extra time later. It like all the people that weave in and out of the traffic just to be a few vehicles ahead, just to be stopped by the signal light. it's like what was the hurry in the first place...they got the same place everyone else did? In the end you only gte there a few minutes earlier...and that being said then why not just leave from wherever, 5 minutes earlier and slow down a bit and be safer! My condolences to her family!

I would stop and help, but I wouldn't put myself or my family in danger. I love animals and I will help as much as I can to save them but I also love my family as well as myself and I would want both to come out of it safely.

My instinct would be to do what she did. i assume this was on a very busy road or highway, since a car hit her, didn't slow or see her. Very sad. I would have done the same thing she did though. I can't stand to see animals hurt or in pain.
